But here is the thing -they must have seen Collins as a more significant target. You are only picking 8th so if there are a few of them the odds are not bad that one of them would have fallen to them. The fact that they decided to trade two picks to move up for Collins tells you something. My guess is that they a few guys that graded very high for that point in the draft, but that Collins stood out among them because the need for safety was that much greater.
Preston Smith. and Goldman were all gone by #40, as was Devin Smith. It's likely that Collins would have been gone as well. So without a trade up, the Giants would likely not have gotten any of these players. My guess at that point it would have been either Lockett or Strong.
Must have felt strongly that the value was there, they probably had a first round grade on these players they mentioned, they probably went with Collins because it was also a huge need. They essentially got two first round picks this year, which is very good work and they got a second round value with their third round pick. So we have three players that will compete for playing time and have a good chance to get some.
Just a hunch.
David Wilson was a 1st round pick at #32. Chris Snee was a 2nd round pick at something like 33. Is there a big difference other than salary slot?
They had put the target on Landon when the first round ended tho, the trade-up talks were ongoing the entire day.
not the bible but what I got.
I believe they were both gone before our 4th round pick. One might have slid if Collins was taken instead, but maybe not.
