Prince on Joe & Evan

AJ23 : 5/5/2015 1:17 pm
- Said he's feeling healthy and ready to go for 2015 after torn bicep last year on MNF vs. Colts.

- Said he's not sure who will replace Antrel Rolle as vocal leader but the defense has other leaders who lead by example, like Beason.

- Took a "realist" point of view on defense heading into the season, as he put it - saying he won't know what to expect out of the defense until he sees the safety group play. Noted their lack of experience, compared to the Rolle/Brown duo that entered last year.

- When asked about his contract situation, said he's not worried about it and isn't one of those guys that would bring it up this year as an issue. Said he feels like he's been ascending his entire career and will worry about it after this season.

- Also said practicing against ODB helps him a lot because "you get the speed of DeSean Jackson" and the catching skills of Megatron. Called ODB a top-3 receiver in the NFL.

Pretty uneventful, I guess, but always interesting to hear Prince speak. As you know, he's not your average football player in the way he talks. Randonbly asked Joe & Evan about the Mayweather fight at the end, which led to a pretty funny exchange.

Beat me to it....;

Prince is definitely not your typical pro football interview. Good to hear that he is lifting weights and starting on-field work during OTAs.
I listened to interview and agreed with all his points

including the fight.
Concerning his contract

it was great to hear him say he believes he will be valued here or elsewhere.

Also great to hear him talk highly of himself too.
Maybe, just maybe

he will be a good player we resign and not let leave at the end of his contract. Like his class and style.
Early in his tenure Reese resigned players

He didn't since after 2012 because he didn't think the roster was ready to make a run. If the kids step up this year I think the vets get resigned. if not more roster turnover.
Beason

being the leader is a real problem. They need someone else to step up as that leader besides Beason because he rarely plays.
Leadership is not something that rises and falls just because a player

Is hurt. If the locker room believes in a player as a leader, it doesn't matter if he's missing games. beason is a veteran that has been through it. If his words command respect, that doesn't change because his foot is acting up. I think players are intelligent enough to know that injuries happen in this sport.

Sam Madison was a leader on that 2007 team. It didn't matter that he got hurt and missed games. I doubt anyone respected Snee or tuck any less because they got hurt and missed games.
At the end of talking about leaders,
St. Jimmy : 5/5/2015 7:36 pm : link
he said it depends on how the team is doing. Sounded like no one is a leader when a team is losing.

Bullshit. Madison missed a game here or there, but when a player is out for an extended period of time they don't even travel with the team to road games. If they go on IR, they are barely around the team.

He needs to be on the field to lead. Madison missed 2 of the 20 games we played in 2007.
and comparing it to Tuck/Snee
MookGiants : 5/5/2015 8:02 pm : link
is also stupid, considering from 2007 until he left Justin Tuck missed a total of 5 games. He was banged up but he was almost always on the field.

Chris Snee missed a total of one game from 2005-2012. 2013 he didn't play at all.

Beason is rarely on the field. He missed nearly 3 times as many games last year as Tuck/Snee did combined from 2007-2012
The Giants are making an obvious push to get nasty

I love Prince, but I wish he was more aggressive. (Maybe he needs to be dumped into the tub again.)
Beason may be the overall leader on defense as Prince says, but I have no doubt Landon will put some spine in the DBs.
