New York Giants 2015 NFL Draft Review and Rookie Free Agent Signings - ( New Window )
So many questions for this team. We could be really good if we

put it together quickly, and should be a much better team in the second half for a change (I know we beat some scrub teams last year, but that doesn't count).

But so much relies on the OL developing into a force, our defense developing the ability to stop the run, and Beason's and the rest of the team's health.

Should be a very interesting year. We did a good job of targeting our weaknesses in the draft and FA, particularly on both lines and at OLB...and hopefully Safety.

(or even training camp performances) I think this year's UDFAs and tryout signees are going to represent a higher percentage of the final 53 than usual. It may be a combination of three things:
1. Too much low hanging fruit on the current roster (i.e. lack of quality depth)
2. Quality of the group; the scouts seemed to have come up with some gems.
3. Focusing on areas of need; TE, OL, DB that align with point #1.
Great summery Eric

From my standpoint, I would summarize things by saying we made ourselves better. It remains to be seen how much so, but the fact is they were able to address some glaring needs with a couple of players who are likely to start for us day 1 (Flowers/Collins) and one more who was a great value pick as a high upside prospect at a premium position(Owa), and is also a perfect fit for our scheme. There are reasons to be optimistic about the process for rebuilding the special teams personnel.

I am with Eric that this has the appearance of a 3 player draft and that the CB position remains a glaring need that was not addressed. That said, after the pick that was traded away for Collins, we are talking about round 5, and by that point in many drafts the pool of players available is often not that much different than UDRFA. I would suggest some of the undrafted guys we brought in are comparable as prospects to our picks 5 - 7.

I can see the Thompson and Heart picks, but the 6th round WR is a big head scratcher to me. It sort of sounds like they found themselves searching for comparisons and somehow managed to talk themselves into this one. I hear Jason Avant, David Tyree. Okay. Maybe. But didn't we hear a whole lot about Special teams already during Free Agency? Weren't there going to be three or four more of those types brought in as undrafted rookies? Talk about the perfect time to take a flier on what could be the final piece in the O line transformation -La'el Collins. But enough of that.

The good news is, I think there is going to be some good camp completion for spots on special teams and as backup/role players. The bad news is, part of the reason for this is the barriers for entry for such things is not very high due to several years of poor drafting in the late rounds. Last year was better. Will this one follow in suit and help turns that trend around? We'll see.

Time will tell, but we should

be better on both sides of the ball..With health, we vie for the playoffs(legitimately) imv
Nice update

Couple measurable on Tye. I think he is 6ft 3 and ran a 4.47 (yes) not 4.57 as a TE.
I sound like a broken record,

but we continually draft guys who are easy to root for. A great bunch of young men with a lot of potential to play well for us.
A lot is resting on the health of Prince and DRC...

the run of luck at the position last year was pretty awful, but that's still a lot to ask. Hopefully the safety play will improve and we won't have nickel and dime DBs by committee.
I think a veteran CB will be signed

Love that kids attitude.

Collins has the potential to be a Polamalu-type thumper who has to be accounted for every play. I'll take that every day of the week. It would be nice to finally have somebody to shrink WR's arms.

Odi can possibly be our next outstanding DE. Strong against the run & pass. Stay healthy young man.

Day 3...eh.

Yeah, could've this, why not that. All said Reese & crew killed it with the 1st 3,imo. Talk about need & BPO colliding.
Good job Eric

This is a very interesting UDFA class. We may see 4-6 of the UDFA on the final roster. Hunt, Harper, Edwards, LaCosse, Tye, Taylor, Farrand, and Donnelly are very intriguing players. If i had to make a prediction I would say Edwards makes it, Either LaCosse or Tye win the 3rd TE spot knocking Fells or more likely Robinson off the roster, and Farrand makes it. I think Taylor, Donnelly, and Hunt will end up on the practice squad with Taylor getting elevated at some point once injuries hit the team.

The 4.57 on him is the average of his 40 times.
Nice write-up Eric

You hit on some key points.

We needed 2 starters out of this draft, one along the OL and one at Safety. Check.

With the addition of OO, we solidified a position that has long been the staple of NYG defenses. It's also very possible we selected the 4-3 end in the entire draft, in the 3rd round.

I like the UCONN WR. I think some of the qualities the Giants must have seen in this guy are toughness, smarts, and physicality which will help greatly on special teams a la Tyree.

The main takeaways are exactly what you highlighted. They added beef on the OL, some nastiness and attitude on both sides of the ball, and also serious special teams help.

I am very high on this draft and 3 years from now I'm expecting 4 or 5 of these guys to have prominent roles on this roster.
That should read..

And with Eli's magic in the 4th quarter, a Super Bowl Trophy!
Looking back at the draft,

there are still as many unanswered questions as answered....

We had to go OL......It was going to be Scherff, Flowers or Peat, unless a gem fell to us, which didn't happen....Washington, made it a two man race.....Nov. 1st, we will know if we made the right decision......

We needed a safety bad......unfortunately, it wasn't a strong draft for safeties.....but we got what could be the best of a bad group......if Collins can improve his deep coverage, he will be worth the trade up.....

There was a reason why "Double O" was available at #74, those hips....he is a huge gamble.....if those hips are good, he's a steal.....otherwise, for a team that has injury problems, to draft a guy with his medical history, just hasn't learned anything.....

There is no doubt, this was a "need" draft for the Giants....

The last three guys? It's a crap shoot.....there were better "rated" players available, and the Giants passed on them, the likes of Harrison, Bennett, Smith, McBride, etc.

As mentioned, only time will tell....but those top three players have to make an impact, for this team to make a move....for any of the last three to make the team, or any UDFA, to contribute, is a huge bonus....

If the NFL was just plug and play, it would become a Madden game, but it isn't.....we can only hope for the best.....

Orgasms seem great, but there really are a lot of problems to focus on, like your unpredictable pee stream, or leaks saturating your underwear. So we must concern ourselves with these problems and pitfalls.....everyday....relentlessly." ~Doomster

The FO has improved the personnel and the coaching staff this offseason. There will be very good, healthy competition at nearly every position. There will be strengths and weaknesses, a league wide reality, that the staff will balance and scheme around. In the end, if the strengths stay healthy and the competition improves the weaknesses, this team will compete with everyone they face.

Most importantly, it's going to be a fun ride.

Try to enjoy it a little?
