NFT: Who has a flag pole at their house?

pjcas18 : 5/15/2015 12:11 pm
looking to install one this spring and I thought it would be simple.

however, I now learn there are of course a ton of options I don't care to research or even think that much about so was hoping someone had one and could tell me what they did and what they like or don't like about what they did.

some of the options I'm being asked are:

1. Internal or external halyard (does internal stop the rope from hitting the flag pole in the wind?) any other advantage either way?

2. flag pole color: bronze, white, gray, brushed aluminum, my house has tan siding with white molding I was assuming I'd go with white, but does gray or brushed aluminum look better?

3. installation options, ground sleeve, hinged base (what I was planning on), shoe base (mostly for commercial I believe)

4. pole topper: ball, eagle, eagle on ball, silver, gold, etc.

just wanted to do something simple. sorry for the noise, I know this might seem inane, but it's important to me.

c: it doesn't matter no need to obsess over minutiae

LOL
pjcas18 : 5/15/2015 12:49 pm : link
no, someone kicked my Giants garden gnome across the yard on halloween no way I'm flying a Canadiens flag in boston.

not that I would anyway.

yes, thank you, I'm familiar with flag etiquette, just not with flag pole specifics.

That would do it.

got it from the gates company. I have a fiberglass pole never had a problem with it.
Check with your town to make sure that it does not violate their rules

how high is 20ft in relation to your house? roof level?

sounds like what I should get. is it hinged base, so you can "fold" it to the ground or sleeve based (like I think of as a mailbox would be installed).

thanks for the reply.
I called my town

building and inspections dept, they said the only regulation is it has to be on my property. LOL.

I guess that makes sense.

thanks gidie, I think I'm getting the internal halyard, i read the wind causes the external ones to clang against the flag pole and that's annoying.
yeah -- the wind is a problem - and so is
gidiefor : Mod : 5/15/2015 7:06 pm : link
the mechanism when it gets old -- the hinge is great for painting and fixing stuff -- but fixing stuff when it's old is like working with outdated electricity and plumbing. Makes me cranky.
by the way
gidiefor : Mod : 5/15/2015 7:08 pm : link
the clanging you can control by taping critical parts -- and it's not really that annoying -- it's the twisting and weathering part that bothered me
