Going up there for my son's graduation next month. I get to spend the rest of the day and the day after with him. Anybody know of anything we can do or good places to eat in the area? I know I'll get a tour of the base and the museum there but that's all we have planned so far any suggestions would be appreciated
not too much around the base.....

but haven't been there in like 20 years. I can remember a place called the Plantation, but I think it's closed and there was a burger place that had plate sized buffalo burgers?! Sorry not much help.
Congrats to your son!

I have been to Sill several times but nothing recent and Lawton has changed so much since then(and I never make it down there anymore).

You're going to find Lawton is fairly far away from any of the larger metro areas. There will be all the usual chain reastaurants and such(about a 1000,000 people live there)but I honestly don't know of any nice places to share with you, but I will ask around and see if I can get a few names.

Oh, and Okies are nice so just ask around and they'll be happy to share the good spots.

Check out the Museum of the Great Plains(pretty cool)and hope the weather improves(lots of rain, but they're in a drought and need it, and tornadoes lately)
Went to the museum there a year or so ago.

It's quite good but that's all there is. The base is huge but most of it's not interesting. The Geronimo stuff is there too so you can see his grave site and cell where he was held. There are some other things in Lawton. See tripadvisor.
I'll check out the museum

The rare times he's been off base (had a medical issue after basic that limited him ) he said people were really nice there. Will check out that museum. I told him we will find a real bbq place around there. At this point any real food will be like heaven to him consisting he's been gone almost a year and was supposed to be home by Christmas.
I think the burger place

That was mentioned is called Meers. You can also visit Geronimo's grave on Ft. SILL.
