NFT: ABC Network betrays viewers of decent show.

manh george : 5/17/2015 9:10 pm
The show "Resurrection" was on ABC for two seasons, starting off-cycle in March 2014. Not great, not terrible. However, the thing is, it was based around a single theme and story arc--the return of people to a town where they had died--and the theme required an explanation and resolution.

Now the series has been cancelled, with no explanation as to why people had returned, no resolution of the main theme, and that basically made it a waste of time for anyone who had viewed.

I can't recall the last time a major network had said to its viewers, "if you were dumb enough to watch this series, then we don't need your viewership."

At the very least, they should have made an episode explaining the story arc and resolving it, and made it available on line. To leave it hanging like that is really insulting. Does anyone recall a similar situation happening before on a network show that ran two seasons?

Although it was on HBO, not a network.
Oh that and, Terminator - Sarah Conner Chronicles

It's gone. Basically network tv is unwatchable.

Cable give shows sometime to build and audience via Netflix and on demand.

sadly reality tv is the only thing that survives in network tv

Have no patience with shows anymore. Seinfeld had poor ratings in it's first season. MASH also had poor ratings it's first season. Two of some of the best shows ever on T.V.

A great show that didn't resolve. IMO on par with House of Cards thru those 2 seasons. Apparently was on Starz, that couldn't have helped but apparently was GG nominated / critically acclaimed. Caught it on Netflix, definitely recommend it. KG as the bad guy is bad ass

Boss - ( New Window )
Grammer was great and his

Although I did give up on that show a while back.

Here are some other shows that left us hanging...

Flashforward- An ABC show where there was a world-wide blackout for 15 minutes and everyone got a glimpse of their future.

V- Another ABC program that was a remake of a 70s show where the aliens (Visitors) allegedly came in piece, but only a small group of people knew the truth...that the visitors were here to take over. Did they succeed? Who knows?

Revolution- We now know what happens when the lights go out all over the world, but did they ever get the power turned back on?

This is why I don't invest my time in network TV any more. If the show is good enough and lasts more than a few seasons I can catch up on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Correction...
Jim in Tampa : 5/17/2015 10:07 pm : link
The alien visitors came in "peace" not in "piece".
The ABC series is based on a book by Jason Mott, 'The Returned'

You could read the book to learn what was going on.
V was resolved in the 80s series

I remember watching it on my vcr as a kid. Loved that series especially the 2nd one "the final battle"

All those shows mentioned on this thread I started watching but gave up. Sucks they didn't resolve you would think maybe the writers could put some kind of brief resolution online for the fans. Shit make something up if you have to. Can't be that hard...
I Was Really Disapointed

That the Sarah Connor Chronicles show was cancelled.
Jim - apparently they are putting out a short run comic

that will wrap up Revolution. Not an ideal answer, but at least some form of closure there is en route.
ABC is known to do this frequently with a lot of their new dramas

I think "Invasion" was the first new cancelled drama that the network allowed the writers to rescript after cancellation and have an ending albeit abruptly.

It was mainly due to the fact that Invasion creator was Shaun Cassidy. He called in a few favors. Critics loved the show and hammered ABC for not fully supporting it.

I gave that one far too many episodes before quitting.

Im convinced that NBC is being run by someone who doesnt own a TV. They seem to be buying 100% on concept and 0% on execution/writing talent.

Alcatraz was a fun show that got the hook too quickly. Typical FOX. Good thing 'Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?' is returning though...

As said already, Carnivale and Deadwood

Cancelled in favor of more Sex and the City. Fucking brainless dipshit asshole network executives (yeah, still pissed about it).
I'm still not over some shows that ended peacefully

Forever, and on FOX Backstrom. I actually liked those shows and they canned them. I guess I have to have a rule where a show should get out of season 1 before i start watching. Obviously, will have to binge watch to catch up but this way I don't spend all this time watching only for the network to cancel it.

HBO was willing to renew Carnivale for example if producer Daniel Knauf would reduce the production costs to $2 million per episode, but he refused. He also rejected the idea of a 3 hour movie to wrap up the storyline, saying that was not enough time.
