I can't see 5 safeties. Thompson and Gordy are most likely battling for the 4th safety spot IMO.

- Giants keep 3 RBs (plus FB), not 4
- Giants keep 9 DL,not 8
- Giants keep 6 CBs, not 5
- Giants keep 4 safeties, not 5

Of course it's is silly to do this now since injuries will have a major impact on how many we keep it which spots.
I think he's too negative on Nassib
Bill L : 5/18/2015 12:22 pm : link
It's certainly not Nassib's fault that he hasn't played and I don't really think you can say that the last couple times we saw him on the field that he was "unimpressive". He's still "Incomplete" at worst, IMO
Not
AcidTest : 5/18/2015 12:23 pm : link
realistic. Washington/Parker is close. Fells and Robinson could be cut in favor of LaCosse and Tye. I think Reynolds gets cut in favor of Jones. Jerry probably makes it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone as well. The Giants didn’t seem in any great hurry to resign him. Jenkins could easily be cut. Ayers should start on the PUP. That opens up spots for Wynn and Selvie. Fenner might make it at CB. Not sure why so many people think Gordy has an inside track at the 53.
Some terrible guesses
BillT : 5/18/2015 12:23 pm : link
No Wynn at DE! No Jones at C/G beat out by Dallas Reynolds! Wynn is a lock at his age and what he's shown so far. And Reynolds is a fall back in case someone gets hurt. They wouldn't have bothered with Jones if they didn't think he was better than Reynolds.
Gordy?
KWALL2 : 5/18/2015 12:27 pm : link
Has NFL expereince. He's a great athlete and he can play CB and S. I'll take a versatile player like this over Selvie all day.

If Ayers is healthy and Odi steps up and shows he can play there is no need to keep Selvie.

I'd bet on NYG finding a spot for Tye. He has something we haven't had on the roster in a while. He'll get a shot to fill the Pascoe role and play in the backfield and on the move in an H-back role. He's a massive athletic and speed upgrade for us.
Jerry is going nowhere
BillT : 5/18/2015 12:29 pm : link
The Giants signed him for 2 years at twice vet min. He's a quality backup guard.
when Wynn got inserted into the lineup
djm : 5/18/2015 12:32 pm : link
the DL improved.

Maybe Ayers is healthy and kicking ass in camp but I just have a feeling he is on the bubble. He's not THAT good to begin with and the book is pretty much out on him. I know he flashed last year but he also got hurt. That's a strike against him.

THE DL battle will be the most interesting battle this summer. I still say the Giants will keep the younger player over Ayers but maybe he's better than I think and maybe I am overrating Wynn. I'm sticking to my guns.. I really want Wynn to emerge.
I can't see them cutting Bromley
djm : 5/18/2015 12:36 pm : link
he's still a young player and the Giants typically don't cut 3rd rounders without giving the guy some rope. Same with Moore. Even if the Giants are completeely disgused with Moore which is likely a stretch, they will give Spags a year with him to see if he can reach his potential. Selvie will serve a role here along with Ellis. They were brought in to stop the run. Wynn showed he can stop the run. Ayers did not.

Maybe the keep 10 DL...that works too. INjuries tend to shake these things out...hopefully they don't and we just keep the best 9-10 guys.

Victor Cruz is healthy (big if), with Dwayne Harris on board, I'm not sure keeping Preston Parker makes sense. Depends on how Marcus Harris and Corey Washington perform too.
Poor article
GiantsFan84 : 5/18/2015 12:43 pm : link
For the DL

They will keep at least 9 DL (as Eric said they kept 10 last year), I think they will keep 4 DT (Hankins, Ellis, Bromley, Jenkins) and 5 DE (JPP, Moore, Ayers, Wynn, Odi). As Kwall said, Selvie should be cut. He is run DE which they have in Wynn and Odi. Selvide made sense to sign before the draft so you weren't forced into drafting a DE. But he is now expendable since Odi was brought in.

For RBs I think they keep 3 unless Hunt impresses. Guys like Darkwa are a dime a dozen. You can find someone similar anytime you want.

For WRs you don't keep Preston Parker if you are keeping 7. He is also easily replaceable. If you keep 7 its because you want to keep Washington. I think they keep 6.

Doing 3 RBs (not including Hyno) and 6 WRs allows you to keep 4 TEs
9 DL at a minimum
JonC : 5/18/2015 12:47 pm : link
They could make an argument for 10. 6 WRs is plenty, they can risk others on the PS.

Reynolds should be gonesky, Herman would make 9 OL.

6 CBs, 4 S ... 3 RB + FB

Need this depth alignment much more than a 7th WR.

They've been keeping 4 RB + the FB
BillT : 5/18/2015 12:48 pm : link
For the last few years.
Given D Harris' skillset and contract
JonC : 5/18/2015 12:51 pm : link
he should be able to put Parker on the exit. CW also faces a climb to make this roster.
I can see Ben Edwards
Mr. Nickels : 5/18/2015 1:00 pm : link
making it as a WR. I don't think Marcus Harris has a good chance. I also feel like Preston Parker won't make it though I like his fire. I would have a hard time cutting Corey Washington if I had a say he makes it over Parker and Ben Edwards has potential.

The key will be Special Teams. The best one there of Harris/Washington/Davis will have a leg up for the roster if Cruz is healthy. If two look good and show more on offense Parker could be gone. If Washington has not made any improvements on Special Teams all of the TD's against guys who won't make 53 man rosters won't mean a thing

Normally, I'd agree 100 percent with you on WR's and special teams. But they are likely to keep one guy who won't be active on game day unless someone else is hurt. Keep in the back of your mind that Rueben Randle may be gone in 2016. Corey Washington could be his replacement.
Hmmmmmm......
Doomster : 5/18/2015 1:25 pm : link
Only 3 RB's are locks....4th will not be Darkwa....

Don't know what the love affair with Davis is.....now if he put a few pounds on, and played TE then maybe....

Robinson's last shot...better show up in shape....

Reynolds and Hart? wow...keep that waiver wire on....

If Jenkins is your starter, DL is in trouble...he's done....we have JPP and Hankins....while there are upgrades over last year, it's not saying much....

If Herz makes this team, I will need a neck brace from shaking my head....if Beason can't stay on the field, and Kennard does not progress to the next level, another average at best linebacking corps...

We have nothing after Prince and DRC....

The whole key to this team is health....if our starters stay healthy, this team can make the playoffs...how far they go depends on what Spags can create with what he has been given....

A few key injuries and we are back where we were the last two seasons and no playoffs, again....

I think bubble wrap should be a required element of OTA's...
Typical Doomster...doom, gloom, and fouling the room.

Me too.

I think he will cause Selvie to be cut and be in the mix at DE for NY. You have to wonder about the health of Ayers though, and Moore needs to step up. Wynn played hard and looked good to a lot of us so I, too, am hopeful he makes it.

Nothing doom and gloom about it.....just reiterating what I have said about this club many times....the starters are ok, but they are a house of cards....we have no depth on this team......we give players who have shown nothing, the benefit of the doubt, or else why would Reese have signed/drafted them?

Stay healthy, team makes the playoffs....key injuries, we know what happens...

I felt the consensus around here was the Nassib's preseason play improved greatly from his rookie year to sophomore year. At least that's the feeling I got from watching him.

2014 Preseason Stats:
44/74 completions (59.5%), 588 yards, 5 TDs, 0 Ints.

It's just preseason, but that's the only time he can play right now and he did good with that opportunity. Let's see how he looks this year.

Depth players are players that, by definition aren't, good enough to start. You're not going to find a team with well-regarded players sitting on the bench just in case of injury. Every team gives their backups the benefit of the doubt.

I would assume it's his attributes and desire. That's really what special teams is. Desire to get the job done and to not slack off and don't hesitate. Not to be afraid and maintain your resposibilty. I played specials in high school as well as qb(my school sucked). My coach always told me. Don't be afraid don't be afraid. Special teams is basically a lunatics dream. He's obviously shown those abilities on film
You are missing my point....

Depth players are players that, by definition aren't, good enough to start. You're not going to find a team with well-regarded players sitting on the bench just in case of injury. Every team gives their backups the benefit of the doubt.

You have to have guys like Kevin Boothe, who can come in and play when someone goes down....he was adequate...a good fill in....but not a starter.....Reese made him a starter out of desperation in the OL, and was a reason why the OL failed....

But in addition, you also have to have coaches that evaluate the talent of their players and can formulate a game plan around their abilities and not expect them to perform at the same level as the guy they replaced...

How the Cardinals ever got as far as they did last year, with all their injuries, shows it can be done....

Fair.

But the cardinals example is an extreme outlier. That's why so much was made of it and it was talked about so much. Before it happened, nobody would have believed it, and the only team I might've believed could possibly do it would be New England.

Really? At this point I doubt we're adding anyone, but I'd still love to see Miles in a Giants uniform. Collins is the only guy I feel comfortable with in a starting role...although I am intrigued by Bennett Jackson. I like Berhe but not sure if I like him and Collins together - questionable coverage ability deep if they are both starting.
The problem with 53 man predictions at this point...
Milton : 5/19/2015 6:49 pm : link

batwood06 : 5/21/2015 6:05 pm : link
but with Dwayne Harris aboard, his special teams contributions won't count for as much.

wynn, I think, is seen as a gem from the scouting department and it would be an internal nightmare to cut him. Unless he regresses badly I can't see him getting the axe. And unfortunately the same reasoning could conceivably keep Hosely around, if he can keep pace with Chykie Brown and Mike Harris.

Dallas Reynolds must have qualities we're not aware of. I don't see Hermann sticking and Bobby Hart, as all 7th rounders are, is a long shot on paper.

I am very interested in how Safety plays out. I hope they keep 4.
