this is. Who knows what the actual competitive advantage was but, make no mistake, this was intentional and Brady knew about it. The Pats lame defense is a total joke and plays the public as fools. They always knew they wouldn't appeal but are now claiming to take some kind of "high" road in this to end the acrimony?!?! Are you kidding me?!?! If any part of their lame defense had even the slightest truth to it...Brady's text messages would be posted online and they'd have Mr. Deflator on every broadcast that would have him detailing his lengthy diet program for all...and, oh yeah, he'd still be employed by the Pats. What a pile of garbage!
The relationships between billion-dollar businesses and the cartel to which they belong are a matter of private agreement, and disciplinary actions for violations of that agreement aren't likely amenable to much review by an outside body. (Assuming that the cartel stays within the bounds of its statutory protections from antitrust scrutiny.)
Plus, Goodell wouldn't have come down so hard on NE if he didn't know that he had a strong majority of owners backing him up.
Disciplinary actions by the cartel against a employees of one of the member businesses, though, is a much trickier thing. An individual (and his union) has rights that the employer does not, relative to the cartel.
recognize that they failed to properly supervise their employees.
As to Brady's situation IMO it strengthens Goodell's position because the Wells Report found that Kraft and Belichick were in no way involved but that Brady probably was . So, if someone like Kraft, who was found not to be involved, accepts punishment, where does that leave Brady who was found to be involved. Said another way, if an innocent person accepts punishment, what can a guilty person expect?
IMO the 4 game suspension should be imposed unless Brady publicly says he was involved and made a mistake. No public applog you, no reduction in suspension.
the way the Pats fans on that forum could so aggressively pillory Kraft and consider him dead to them. That they are calling for an owner with "some balls" and can't wait for him to sell the team is beyond words.
I believe he's owned the team for exactly 20 seasons and in that time, his team won 14 division titles, went to 7 Super Bowls, winning 4, and he is credited as one of the most influential people in ending the lockout.

I don't think I would want to go through life with an outlook as cynical as that.
I would be hugely disappointed if I was a Pats fan in Kraft. He's been all over the map on this. And now he sounds like a complete dolt. Take a stand, and ride it out. As crazy as Al Davis was, especially this century, he at least stood his ground...especially in the '80s when it was clear Rozelle and the league office were very anti-Raider...
Has allowed this cheating culture to continue to happen and fought this demanding an apology in February and then that joke rebuttal of the Wells report. He has not been close to classy.
as if he has a choice. You were caught cheating. Again. If you wanna push it it'll probably reveal more misconduct. The Pats board Filthy linked is even worse. I don't know how a fan base can be that delusional. People claiming Kraft "chose Goodell over his fans", another saying he has "some soul searching to do". You're team was caught cheating red handed and you need to contemplate your fandom because they aren't fighting the punishment? I'm sure there are lots Pats fans taking a logical view at this thing but those others? They're the dregs of the NFL fan base, and their indignation is making me even more glad that Eli and Coughlin are the kryptonite that's prevented Brady and Belichick from claiming Super Bowl perfection.
Cut a deal with Goodell, Brady will get a 2 game suspension, and that does fit the crime. It is obvious, then everyone saves a little face and it's business as usual. I think they have been punished enough with the fine, draft picks and suspension.
but Brady's appeal is from the player's union, no?
I would think that the Pats will eat the fine and draft pick hit. But when Brady meets Goodell, they knock it down to 2 games. Quid Pro Quo.
I said last week (when everyone was up in arms about Goodell hearing the appeal) that it gives him - Goodell - the opportunity to play the "good guy," either by reducing the penalty or eliminating it completely. I believe that's why he had Troy Vincent hand down the penalty in the first place.
You can bet your ass Kraft polled his 'allies' among ownership...
...and found little to no backing for his ridiculous stance in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary combined with the cumulative nature of these disciplinary actions and the teams denial of access to both personnel and data critical to the investigation.
They're dirty, they knwo it, everyone knows it. they keep their rings but their legacy is tarnished...as it should be. BTW the Niners legacy is also tarnished with salary cap circumventions galore.
If this was a backroom deal, to reduce Brady's penalty, how does that help Brady?
Let's say, Goodell reduces it to 2, or 1 game.....and Brady accepts it....isn't it an admission of guilt? Does this tarnish his football legacy?
BB has had to live with "Spygate".....then Brady would have to live with "Deflategate"....there is a big difference between "accepting" a lesser penalty and still denying any wrong, and fighting to get no games suspended and having no judgement against Brady....
As the media around here states, the "haters are gonna hate", no matter what the decision....it's the Patriot's fans vs the rest of fans, in the country...
Yes Kraft stuck his own foot in his mouth when he said the report will force the NFL to apologize to the Patriot organization, and that he would fight this to the end...Patriot fans are going nuts around here, especially the group that wanted to raise 1M for the Pat's fine....
It just seems to me that Kraft did not know all the facts, or was told a different story, until new facts came out...
The ball is now in Brady's court......it will be interesting to see what he does with it....
This.
"That's it!!! We're screwed."
I would think that the Pats will eat the fine and draft pick hit. But when Brady meets Goodell, they knock it down to 2 games. Quid Pro Quo.

I hope so. Don't want him missing the Cowboys game.

That's what I was thinking too, especially if Goodell is hearing TB's appeal.

Ding ding ding! I'd say you pegged it Matt.
2) Use NFL mouthpiece and well-known suck-up Peter King to deliver a series of platitudes that again claim innocence and defend QB's "honor"
3) Leak news of a personal conversation and meeting with commish
4) Come to the podium and claim to accept penalties "for the good of the league"
5) Brady's suspension reduced

They are precious, aren't they?
LOL at all the Pats fans jumping ship.

Imagine if they go 4-0 with Garropolo? They'll be trying to run Brady out of town! :-)
May make it more likely that Brady's punishment is reduced.
I don't think I would want to go through life with an outlook as cynical as that.
I think there are a lot of Hartford residents, and CT residents for that matter who think he's a scum bag.
"You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em".......
I would think that the Pats will eat the fine and draft pick hit. But when Brady meets Goodell, they knock it down to 2 games. Quid Pro Quo.
I'm think this is the most likely scenario.
2) the punishment exceeds the crime

here, I think Kraft is a standup guy with integrity. I do think Brady was behind the deflate thing, not so sure Kraft knew anything about it

As a lifelong CT resident, I gotta give you that one. I know I was pretty pissed

I was thinking the same thing. I would think the appeal process would have to allow follow-up interviews with the Ball guys. Kraft does not want that

Wow! is all I can say to these guys
And of course someone compared it to Nazi Germanay...lol
