@TomRock_Newsday: Am told Will Beatty just went in for surgery on torn pec at HSS. Recovery said to be 5 months. That's back on the field around November.
the Canadian kid has a major opportunity in front of him. If indeed they go with Pugh and Flowers as tackles, Schwartz as RG, then please God let this kid beat out Jerry.

plug him in at left guard and have pugh and flowers play the tackle positions.
This sucks, but it could be much worst. We are lucky this happened now and not game 1 of preseason. This will give us some time to work with flowers and groom him for the LT position.
"Taylor tore his left pectoral muscle while bench pressing during the offseason conditioning program last week at the team's facility. A Browns spokesman said the surgery ''went well'' and the 335-pound Taylor is resting comfortably at the Cleveland Clinic." Link - ( New Window )
how many players, over the course of the past few years.
And this pec injury is the fault of the training staff for teaching poor technique (when you would expect a spate of these injuries), rather than muscle instability from the player.
And maybe, just maybe, we'll be pleasantly surprised by some of our other young O-Linemen - Donnelly, Bamiro, Hart, Jones - or maybe even someone like Mosley will finally live up to his potential. Who knows?
was a damn good LT at Syracuse. It's his natural position. I think he could do well there. If so, the battle will be at LG. They could move Richburg back where he played last year and try Jones at center.
Would allow Flowers to use his athleticism and nastiness in the run game more at RT. Jerry might be better suited for LG than RG.
Problem now is that they are really extra dependent on Schwartz being healthy from day 1 of camp all the way through the season. That's the equivalent of counting on Beason at LB.
And maybe, just maybe, we'll be pleasantly surprised by some of our other young O-Linemen - Donnelly, Bamiro, Hart, Jones - or maybe even someone like Mosley will finally live up to his potential. Who knows?
Nothing is over...certainly not on May 20.
And fuck all you whiny bastards getting off on this shit.
"We spent so much time last off-season addressing that and talking about how we are going to fix that going forward. We made adjustments to what was being done in the weight room. We had the GPS tracking system," Mara said. "For some reason, here we are again leading the league in that category.
"We cut down the number of soft-tissue injuries and then, all of a sudden, we get all these broken bones and torn tendons and torn biceps. I just don't have an answer for that right now. Obviously we will spend a lot of time on it this off-season, talking about that and looking at ways that we can improve upon that."
Wild animal attacks. While Nolan Ryan was playing for the Astros in 1985, a coyote bit him on the hand and forced him to miss a start; no word on whether any Acme products were involved. Former Norwegian soccer star Svein Grondalen was absent from an international match in the late-1970s because an angry moose ran into him while he was jogging. We suspect the moose was a fan of Brazil and vuvuzelas.
Eating. The Homer Simpson Award for injuries sustained while eating donuts goes to former National League MVP Kevin Mitchell, who chipped a tooth on a frozen donut in 1990 (dude, that's what microwaves are for). He had to have a root canal and ended up on the DL. Montreal Expo infielder Bret Barberie got chili pepper juice in his eye and missed a game. Hockey player Dustin Penner of the Los Angeles Kings takes the (pan)cake, though, wrenching his back last year while leaning over to eat a stack of flapjacks. His back spasm caused him to miss one game.
Sneezing. Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa got back spasms from sneezing in 2004 and was never the same player again (he even turned white after he retired). Pitcher Mat Latos tried to learn from Sosa's example on the dangers of the sneeze, attempting to suppress the one he felt coming in July 2010. Latos strained muscles in his left side and wound up on the DL anyway.
Vomiting. Most of us feel better after we throw up, but not baseballs Kevin Mitchell (yes, the same Mitchell from the earlier item) and Josh Outman. Both strained rib muscles while puking and had to be placed on the DL. Mitchells injury occurred in 1992, while Outmans happened in April 2012.
Playing video games. NBA star Lionel Simmons missed several games of the 1991 season from tendonitis suffered while playing his Nintendo GameBoy. Detroit pitcher Joel Zumaya may have been a Guitar Hero, which cost him a chance to be a baseball hero in the 2006 ALCS. He missed three games due to injuries to his elbow and forearm due to aggressive strumming on his PlayStation 2. Apparently he was attempting to play Buckethead on advanced.
Chopping wood in the locker room. When the Jacksonville Jaguars started 0-3 in 2003, coach Jack Del Rio put an axe and a stump of wood in the locker room and implored his team to keep chopping wood. It turns out that his players were still better at football than lumberjacking. Punter Chris Hanson took aim at the stump, but whacked his non-kicking foot instead and missed the rest of the season. Del Rio finally got the axe himself, a few years too late for Hanson.
Participating in the coin toss. Call this one the Anton Chigurh Award for career-ending coin toss. Offensive tackle Turk Edwards career was good enough to make the Hall of Fame, but it might have been better if he hadnt been the Washington Redskins captain in 1940. Edwards called the coin toss and shook hands with Giants captain Mel Hein, but when he turned toward the sideline, his cleat caught in the turf and his knee buckled. He never played again.
Yelling at teammates. Words hurt, especially when you scream them with such force that you dislocate your jaw, as Manchester United goalie Alex Stepney did in 1975. If you're a python swallowing a deer, a dislocated jaw is an advantage. Otherwise, not so much.
Sleeping. All sorts of potential dangers await the slumbering athlete. Former baseball player Glenallen Hill, an arachnophobe, had a nightmare in 1990 involving spiders and consequently tumbled down the stars and slammed into a glass table. He sustained multiple cuts and required a stay on the disabled list. Thank God he steered clear of the bed pillows, or it might have been worse: former MLB pitcher Terry Mulholland scratched his eye on a loose feather in 2005, and Detroit catcher Brandon Inge went on the DL a few years later (2008) when he pulled an oblique while adjusting a pillow. Former Tigers pitcher Denny McLain once awoke from his slumber with two dislocated toes in 1967. Then, theres "sleeping." Milan AC midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng earlier this year had a muscular lesion on his left thigh. His model girlfriend attributed it to too much sex.
Ironing shirts. This possible injury is shrouded in mystery. As legend has it, former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz burned himself back in 1990 while ironing his shirt. But thats not the weird part. The story goes that Smoltz was wearing the shirt when he decided to iron it and not surprisingly burnt himself. Smoltz, of course, denies that it ever happened. And hes probably telling the truth. Probably.
Phone book attack. In 1994, 28-year-old knuckleballer Steve Sparks missed out on a chance to make his first big-league roster when he dislocated his left (non-throwing) shoulder during spring training in Chandler, Ariz., with the Milwaukee Brewers. He tried to rip a phone book while imitating a group of motivational speakers named "Radical Reality" who had visited the team.
A team that constantly cries about needing to get back to running the ball, that stuck with the run despite it being a mess most of last year, depending on him as first back-up up and now likely an entrenched starter remains completely nonsensical.

That is the statement I took from that entire press conference. Same S&C guys around the team though.
This is obviously not great news but remember that
Will Beatty isn't even in the top half of NFL starters at his position. It's not like they lost a star player. In the meantime, the Giants will probably move Pugh to left tackle. Forget his short arms, he is the better choice at because at least he's athletic enough to play the position with his feet and has at taken a snap in the NFL. Flowers at this point is a right tackle and he needs a ton of work in pass protection. Bad feet and poor technique are FAR worse than short arms. This makes Jerry the swing tackle and opens a roster spot for Hart.

How can you be so heartless? If the Giants fire those guys, where will there children go to school next year? You have to worry about those things when subscribing to the Wellington Mara philosophy.
i differ from most of these posts i'm reading here are I think Flowers will be OK at LT right away. he's the #9 overall pick: he will not have to be "groomed" as much as people think. he's a ball player
happens it is a crazy world. But to lose the starting LT on a line that is not setting the world on fire to begin with sucks.
Not to mention it is in the off season in the weight room. Ridiculous. Obviously nothing is over, and his replacement may prove to be even better. But regarding injuries this team seems to be snakebit
That people go to the default blame the strength and conditioning coaches for EVERY injury this team has had over the past few years. Sure they deserve blame for SOME of the injuries but sometimes things just happen whether we like it or not. Was it the S&C coaches fault for Beason, Schwartz, ODB, Thurmond, Prince, etc etc. I mean this injury sucks but c'mon now. Are we just gonna put everyone in bubble wrap until September. Before we jump to conclusions, do we even know what he was doing was any different than how he has worked out since he was drafted. Maybe this was just a freak accident, healthy people injure themselves working out from time to time.
the league in injuries again, before training camp EVEN STARTS.
Five months? That's October folks. He also won't be in any shape to do anything until December at the earliest. He won't help us unless we make the playoffs IMO.
As far as replacements are concerned, it's probably Pugh. Flowers isn't ready to start at LT, and the only other options are Newhouse and Jerry.
And Beatty, last year, absolutely was top half of the league. He had a generally good year and bounced back hugely from his dreadful 2013. Decent in run blocking, solid in pass pro.
The team basically lost their easily best (in terms of proven ability) OL today. There's no way around how much it stinks, especially now when either shit like Jerry or Newhouse is definitely going to be starting.
Many of you couldn't wait to run Will Beatty out of town...probably the same ones bemoaning the fact that he's now on the shelf for five or six months.
You got your wish, Beatty's done, now choke on it.
Flowers is going to get a long look at LT, he's the franchise talent, give him every chance to earn the gig. If Pugh is better, so be it, it figures to be temporary.
Many of you couldn't wait to run Will Beatty out of town...probably the same ones bemoaning the fact that he's now on the shelf for five or six months.

You're a Giants fan, too. So, you're choking on it just as much as anyone else.
with a Q-tip, when Ken Griffey Sr. accidently bumped into his arm while he was cleaning his ear.
Jeremy Affeldt sustained a season-ending injury when he accidently sliced his hand open while using a knife to separate frozen hamburgers. He also sprained his MCL once while picking up his son.
Wade Boggs seriously bruised his ribs when he lost his balance and fell while taking off his cowboy boots.
The Giants have a history of having to force young players to learn on the fly on the offensive line. We saw it with Pugh when he was forced in to play right tackle when Diehl got hurt. Richberg was forced into action when Schwartz got hurt. Part of me thinks the Giants might want to go the safe route and shift Pugh over there. But I wouldn't at all be shocked to see the Giants coach him up and get him over at left tackle now and see how he does in the pre-season. If he is struggling by around Game 3 and in practice, the Giants might decide to pull the plug on the experiment and put a veteran there and not risk exposing Eli. For all the weapons that Eli will have this year, and a year experience in the McAdoo system, nothing works if he's getting rushed and hit every play.

No, I'm not. I see every kick as a boost, just as I did in 2011.
way this is a long term blow is if Tom and Jerry trot out Newhouse or Jerry, which is exactly what I expect them to do. Of course this kills our oline depth.
Eli all the Giants need to do is put a functioning line in front of him with NFL caliber players that can do the job in each position. There is no need for a world beating line, just a competent one.
Beatty was certainly no All-pro, but he displayed the ability to hold the the fort at LT and do his job at the NFL level. Now there is almost no one on this line who has done that.
Schwartz has the most experience but he played barely two games last year and who knows what will happen going forward. Pugh would be the veteran now with a whopping two years under his belt and sucked last year. Richburg looks good to me so far but has zero pro-starting experience at Center and Flowers is a rookie.
Then there is Jerry, who sucks, and a guy from the CFL, who knows what the deal will be with him. To lose Beatty means there is not one spot on the line locked in with a legitimate pro starter with experience.
way this is a long term blow is if Tom and Jerry trot out Newhouse or Jerry, which is exactly what I expect them to do. Of course this kills our oline depth.
Does nothing to the OL depth. If you don't have a single back-up you can trust as a starter, you have no depth. The Giants had no depth before this injury and still have none after it. So the depth is left unaffected by this.
Beatty will end up going on Reserve PUP, which means:
Quote:
Commencing on the day after the conclusion of the sixth regular season weekend (October 28) and continuing through the day after the conclusion of the 11th regular season weekend (November 25), clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform for a period not to exceed 21 calendar days. Pads and helmets are permitted during the 21-day period. At any time during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, clubs are permitted to restore such players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform to their Active/Inactive List.
So Beatty can be stashed and not count against the 53 man roster and the Giants can pretty much keep him there up until Week 7 and leave him up through Week 11 before they have to make a decision to activate him or shut him down for the year. Assuming that he has a full recovery, it wouldn't hurt to get a "fresh" offensive lineman out there for the second half of the season. By that time, either Flowers has established himself at left tackle, or the Giants are holding on with someone at left tackle until Beatty is ready to come back.
its unbelievable all the money that rides on NFL players health and for some reason the Giants have one of the worst records in the NFL for games missed over the past 5 years.
Just unreal. Saw the quote above that they are looked at this too, what a mess.
Bobby Hart impresses and can play at LG. He has the attitude and maturity to step in, especially coming in from the school he played for. I think he can step up and hopefully unseat Jerry, who while I think be fine in Pass Pro. would make it impossible to run at all on the Left Side, making the run game one dimensional. Maybe Mosley finally gets it all together? Ugh, this is not good.
how on Earth can you advocate he be moved to LT? I think the initial plan has to be for Flowers to play LT... if he can't hack it through mini-camp and early in preseason, move him back to the right side.
Lets Hope this is our only serious injury to a starter.
Damn I have no idea where they go from here..
Would is be possible or even smart to deal a 1st
round pick for a solid starting Tackle ?
I didn't like the pick at the time, but thank goodness
shit like this happens and throws everything into chaos again.
Mt guess now is that Flowers and Pugh will play the OT positions and our OGs will be really thin even if Schwartz comes back healthy, unless Jones can win a starting job.

Flowers was NOT drafted to eventually take over LT. Every indication from the Giants and from his scouting reports is that he was drafted to play RT from day one and forward. I don't think this changes that. It does, however, point out their serious lack of depth on the OL. There isn't a single solution from within their existing roster that is even a decent one.
Someone on the Giants.com forums ( no legit source ) was saying Beatty was maxing out his BP at 515 and most NFL teams training programs for OL max out at 350.
I am sure its just opinion but thought i would add to discussion. LOL

Injury prone players tend to get injured.
The Giants have been one of the most injury prone teams in the NFL, it's not just chance. They need a new trainer something awful.
From Football Outsiders:
"Once upon a time a series of hamstring injuries made us wonder what exactly the Giants were going to get out of Odell Beckham Jr. He was the last 2014 first-round rookie to make his NFL debut, doing so in Week 5. Quickly we found out he could play as he put in one of the best rookie seasons ever in just 12 games.
But that quarter of a season he missed makes us wonder what more he could have achieved in 2014. The Giants had a lot of those "if only" dreams last year as they became the first team to lead the league in Adjusted Games Lost in back-to-back seasons". This is the fifth year in a row the Giants ranked 22nd or worse, and they have missed the playoffs in four of those seasons." Football Outsiders - ( New Window )

Like i said its probably bullshit, but if not they must have gotten the information from someone on the inside. interesting to see if this comes out or goes poof over next few days.
I'm sure Flowers will now get an opportunity to play
LT in camp and the GIants might just leave Pugh at RT. Only players on this team capable of playing LT are Pugh and Flowers, oh and Newhouse (whom most don't even want on the team). Pugh's arms are too short to play LT and he had his problems at RT last year too. Flowers has all the tools and athleticism, but often lacks some fundamentals. I'm not sure how this will play out, but camp has now taken on a whole new meaning for the oline. The Giants success this year is predicated on the play of this Oline. I almost think Reese has to make a deal to get another tackle in here that can play. Newhouse is certainly not the answer and was not worth the mponey given either IMO. THis is going to be very interesting.
Beatty isn't "elite", far from it. But he's an above-average LT when he's feeling right, and he showed it last year. Nothing special and certainly some poor showings here and there, but overall Beatty was our best OL last year. Sucks that he's injured. This team was depending on him a lot.
Hoping for a strong recovery. Our OL situation is a mess right now, but this makes our Flowers selection look even better.
Pugh/Richburg/Flowers... you guys wanted us to invest in the OL like the Cowboys did, and the Giants listened. Those 3 guys are hopefully the future of our OL and we will need them all to play well this year. Pugh especially needs to take a step up and become a leader on the OL.
Just change them for the sake of change. How many times have coaches been fired unfairly for their players screwing up or lack of talent. These guys must have some correlation in the vast amount of players getting hurt.
Plus I never heard of S&C coaches being known as some great factor in a teams success (or failure)so why not roll the dice with someone else?
he will never be back. He gave us a few good years and we over paid him for those. Another Poor pick by Reese, who is untouchable, and the beat goes on and on. Sorry if I offended anyone but the record speaks for itself. This GM and his staff have buried us these last 10 years with their personnel selections

Yeah, we should give those two Super Bowl trophies back .
What else can you say? I just remembered, that deal Reese made with "You-Know-Who" for the last SB victory, was a 5 year deal.....now 2016 isn't looking good....
in June 1 cuts?
Only 11 days away; yet another countdown.
You're kidding, right? who do you think would be realeased that could help this team at LT? Even at Guard? If there's no confidence in the guys we have, they might just have to bite the bullet and make a deal with some team possibly willing to part with some solid depth.
this might be a blessing in disguise if they had real intentions to replace Beatty.
But short-term, our depth is very shaky again.
My guess is that this very likely ends Beatty's career w the Giants unless he restructures and takes a big pay cut. He will be 31 coming off a year off of football. His bonus hit if he refuses is much less of a factor. He's never been more than a JAG at best even before this.
Better. Every year he's been the starting LT the running game sucked. Including the last SuperBowl run when he got injured. The minute DD went to LT that year was when Run game improved. Not a coincidence IMO
Good thing we signed insurance in Joe Barksdale...

There's one record that certainly does speak for itself - yours.
RE: Jake Long is still rehabbing, but he's apparently close
I would absolutely kick the tires on him. 1000%, even if he plays RT.
I don't see how they don't, to be honest. These are the types of moves you hate but really, what else can they do? They can't roll with what they've got. I mean, I guess they can, but there's not even a word in the English language that can illustrate the uneasiness that would bring...

Yeah, I don't even think that does it. Add a few more H's, maybe a dry heave or two. Then we're getting close.

Says the moron who thinks Reese was a "Rooney Rule" hire.
this might be a blessing in disguise if they had real intentions to replace Beatty.
But short-term, our depth is very shaky again.
Depth? Our starters are shaky. No proven LT. A C who was shaky at G last year. At one G we have a guy who missed all of last season and at the other we probably have John Jerry.
No way anyone can feel confident about this line going into the season. Maybe it will come together but you'd be crazy to put money on it and that's before any more injuries.
belief bad. His season may already be over. And it's not even Memorial Day. Is any of this on the S&C coaches? After what we the projected five starters, Beatty, Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz, and Flowers, we have a bunch of JAGs.
Until proven otherwise, I have zero confidence in Newhouse, Jerry, Mosley, or Herman. Hart is a rookie seventh round pick that everyone admits needs to play guard in the NFL.
RE: Football player injured while lifting.................NO but a
Jumbo was drafted to play LT. Flowers was drafted to be our RT for the next decade.
No Flowers was drafted to be our LT of the future. It is true that he is going to start out at RT but in a year or two he will likely shift over to LT.
Jumbo was drafted to play LT. Flowers was drafted to be our RT for the next decade.
actually Eric Moore was drafted in the first to play LT and Elliott in the second to play RT. Turned out Moore wasn't a good tackle and Roberts was better at Guard also so Elliott ended up at LT and the rest is history.
One of Pugh or Flowers will be on the left, while the other more than likely mans the right side next to Schwartz. One of Jerry, Mosley, Jones, or Hart need to step up big time and earn the job opposite Schwartz.
hurt us in run blocking. Pass blocking I am not worried about. This new system we will get the ball out fast. We can also move the pocket with spring out right, or roll out right. So I am not worried about the pass blocking aspect. Run blocking is where i hope the OL would improve as a unit and do some things.
with half of their oline injured? They must have had better depth. I just do not have any confidence in the candidates due to all the uncertainty. I just hope somebody can step up and fill that void. It's a canyon right now!
Did the Tear happen at the beginning of lifting a set or at the end?
was beatty lifting free weights or did he do this with a bench press?
where was the weight coach. If the tear happened at the end of the set..the conditioning coach has to answer some questions here.
I used to be able to bench 305 (2 sets of 10) with free weights, I am wondering if his hands were properly spaced on the lift, if he was doing free weights.
Picking up right where we left off last year with these fucking injuries. Let's see if we can lead the NFL with the most injuries for the third season in a row.. Whose next????
Another soft tissue injury. Another torn pec for the Giants
I think this happens way too often for our team. Once again, it makes me wonder WTF is going on with our strength and conditioning program.
Heard an interview with Bill Cowher last year. He said that he gave strict instructions to the trainers that under no circumstances would he accept injuries that occur during the training process.
That is the statement I took from that entire press conference. Same S&C guys around the team though.

We were never going to win with Will Beatty at LT. Beatty has no grit. I saw him abused in Carolina in 2013. I mean ABUSED. You can't have a player with no toughness in such a premium position. Our coaches have a terrible weakness of going with mediocre to awful experience over mistakes and upside. I will take the latter any day. Put Flowers in there. That is what he is supposed to be! If not him, finally give Pugh a chance to play his natural position. Bring in another young talent to compete. Give the kid from GB a shot. Once again, we weren't going to win with Beatty. He still can serve as depth when he gets off PUP. Let's go for it. This team is trying to win a championship.
The guy started a full season for GB when they went 15-1, and played 13 games the previous one. Does anyone know why he lost his job and also what happened with the Bengals? At least we know he's held up against some top DE's over the years.

Yeah, we should give those two Super Bowl trophies back .
Unfortunately for Beatty, this season could have saved him for next season......depending on how he played, would determine if the status quo remained, or he would have to accept a restructure, or he would be outright cut...
This OL had to remain injury free, or maybe have minor injuries where they miss a game or two.....to lose Beatty before the season starts, is a huge blow......and it shows you how fragile this line is......While not a great LT, he was the one, for lack of a better term, "constant" in this line......with him out now, there is a possibility of 5 new starters in the positions of the line, compared to last year......how in the world do you gel a line like that, quickly?
Reese is not responsible for injuries.....he is responsible for creating a good OL and having adequate backups .....the fact is, it could be Beatty, Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz or Flowers that could go down, and there is not presently, an adequate backup to replace either one of those guys......and this goes back to 2011, when the OL was ignored or not stressed as a huge problem....you have a franchise qb....you protect him first, and give him time to hit good, not great receivers.........you create a line that can open holes, that an average back can run through......instead, Reese put the cart before the horse many times......
Yes, this team, won two SB's....with the right players and moves, it could possibly have won more, and not have missed the playoffs 5 out of the last 6 years....
It's a shame we have not concentrated on putting a line in front of Eli.....things could have been a lot different....
Flowers is the RT and we're still weak inside at Guard. We all better hope the CFL kid is the goods or our running game is fucked yet again. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They sure as hell didn't waste any time getting him into the OR.
Collins was at his best doing what he did for the Bengals in 2013 as a reserve/rotational guy on the offensive line. He gave up no sacks in 673 snaps in that role.

this year. We have plenty of time to replace Beatty before the start of the season because we are still in May. Reese needs to earn his pay now. Plus, we had to think one or two of these guys would get hurt because it happens every year. What was our plan for WHEN this would happen, not if?

He got signed by the Bucs in 2014 and was awful. They tried to trade him, couldn't, so they just cut him.
Personally, I think their plan was Pugh at LG, Richburg at OC, Schwartz at RG, and Flowers at RT. Scwartz is a risk of injury and may cause further shuffling. So, I am not a fan of moving anyone out of these roles, unless another injury dictates it. That means, I am an advocate of either findsing another LT on our roster or going out and getting one. This may ultimately spell the end of Beatty's Giants career.
Who is a realistic option? Is it Newhouse? Is it the Canadian? Are they more likely to shift Pugh to LT and find a guard, like Hart?
is a penalty making machine - hence the reason he keeps getting cut. I can't imagine TC's blood pressure having a tackle that gets a penalty every 5th or 6th play.
The guy started a full season for GB when they went 15-1, and played 13 games the previous one. Does anyone know why he lost his job and also what happened with the Bengals? At least we know he's held up against some top DE's over the years.
A dirty little secret about those packer teams is that the offensive line wasn't much good. But, they didn't have to be since Rodgers is as mobile as they come.
Newhouse lost his job when they drafted his replacement. He didn't win a starting job in Cincinnati. He served as a backup swing tackle for 1 year.
that my rants about trading down and getting multiple offensive and defensive linesmen were not so crazy after all.
that said, I am not as worried bout this as some.
jones might be a player:
Pugh/Jones/Richburg/Schwartz/Flowers
is still an improvement over last year, with pugh healed, at a more move oriented less power oriented spot, and possibly improved play all the way across from there.
David Deihl played by far his best football at left tackle, it was not the case that he played better at guard..or that guard is 'easier'.....it's different.... possibly pugh is a better left tackle than right tackle.. possibly he is better left tackle than a guard.
he moves fairly well. let him play left tackle, flowers right tackle. Schwartz right guard.
mosely is a tackle to guard conversion as well, I am thinking the canuk gets left guard, mosely backs up left tackle, and some fat slob backs up right tackle.
This sucks, but it could be much worst. We are lucky this happened now and not game 1 of preseason. This will give us some time to work with flowers and groom him for the LT position.

His injury happened May 11th.
So Beatty will play five or six games, max. Realistically, four games is probable. You have to IR him at that point.
And this pec injury is the fault of the training staff for teaching poor technique (when you would expect a spate of these injuries), rather than muscle instability from the player.
B.) Its May, there is still time to find another Guard to sign
c.) He won't miss the entire season
d.) Its only one position on the line, even hough there is the cascading impact of moving people all around.
E.) Monkeys might also fly out of my ass
Nothing is over...certainly not on May 20.
And fuck all you whiny bastards getting off on this shit.
Phil Taylor played eight games in 2012 after tearing his pec. Not five.
Still, big investment. You used PUP or short-term IR, I mean, it isn't good any way you slice it.
then
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
is responsible for this mishap
Problem now is that they are really extra dependent on Schwartz being healthy from day 1 of camp all the way through the season. That's the equivalent of counting on Beason at LB.
Nothing is over...certainly not on May 20.
And fuck all you whiny bastards getting off on this shit.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
"We cut down the number of soft-tissue injuries and then, all of a sudden, we get all these broken bones and torn tendons and torn biceps. I just don't have an answer for that right now. Obviously we will spend a lot of time on it this off-season, talking about that and looking at ways that we can improve upon that."
Its a sad indictment of Reese if that the meager salary they offered Jerry is indicative of their views of his talent.

How can you be so heartless? If the Giants fire those guys, where will there children go to school next year? You have to worry about those things when subscribing to the Wellington Mara philosophy.
Not to mention it is in the off season in the weight room. Ridiculous. Obviously nothing is over, and his replacement may prove to be even better. But regarding injuries this team seems to be snakebit
Wow.
The team basically lost their easily best (in terms of proven ability) OL today. There's no way around how much it stinks, especially now when either shit like Jerry or Newhouse is definitely going to be starting.
You got your wish, Beatty's done, now choke on it.
LG - Pugh
C- Richburg
RG - Schwartz
RT- Flowers
Peace out BBI.
You got your wish, Beatty's done, now choke on it.
You're a Giants fan, too. So, you're choking on it just as much as anyone else.
Hopefully Flowers is the real deal and can lock down a starting job at RT as a rookie
Sammy Sosa hurt his back while sneezing.
LG - Pugh
C- Richburg
RG - Schwartz
RT- Flowers
Now does Pugh stay at RT with Flowers move to LT is the question? With a hole still at Guard.
LG - Pugh
C- Richburg
RG - Schwartz
RT- Flowers
Just because someone started some games at one point does not mean he's not terrible and possibly not even NFL quality.
We just learned this with Brown last year and all his vaunted Saints starts.

No, I'm not. I see every kick as a boost, just as I did in 2011.
So many question marks. Not good at all.
Only 11 days away; yet another countdown.
Only 11 days away; yet another countdown.
June 1st cuts are a thing of the past. Teams cut players at the start of the league year and can designate them post June 1st cuts.
Just unreal. Saw the quote above that they are looked at this too, what a mess.
after two seasons in a row where we had the most players in NFL on IR.
and yet people still REFUSE to believe the Giants S&C coaches are horrible and should have been fired last year

Wait what, our Center is hurt too or was that last year ? I have no doubts in my mind that staff is a HUGE problem.
Did anyone sign Jake Long yet?
Did anyone sign Jake Long yet?
Damn I have no idea where they go from here..
Would is be possible or even smart to deal a 1st
round pick for a solid starting Tackle ?
Is this you saying this or Eli?
Blalock's visted a half-dozen teams but still hasn't been signed. My guess is his asking price is too high.
This fucking sucks!
Mt guess now is that Flowers and Pugh will play the OT positions and our OGs will be really thin even if Schwartz comes back healthy, unless Jones can win a starting job.
But short-term, our depth is very shaky again.
Significant injuries for Giants in spring prior to camp every season since SB46: Hakeem Nicks, JPP, Jon Beason and now Will Beatty.

Fortunately, they have a collection of candidates to
replace him.

This is the fifth year in a row the Giants ranked 22nd or worse, and they have missed the playoffs in four of those seasons."

Like i said its probably bullshit, but if not they must have gotten the information from someone on the inside. interesting to see if this comes out or goes poof over next few days.
Are there degrees of tear (I assume a tear requiring surgery is among the worst kinds)?
Any career threatening risks?
How solid is the 5 month recovery time; does that sound conservative or optimistic?
Is the return time more driven by time to regain strength or is it driven by re-injury risk?
Thanks in advance.
Plus I never heard of S&C coaches being known as some great factor in a teams success (or failure)so why not roll the dice with someone else?
Yeah, we should give those two Super Bowl trophies back .
Only 11 days away; yet another countdown.
You're kidding, right? who do you think would be realeased that could help this team at LT? Even at Guard? If there's no confidence in the guys we have, they might just have to bite the bullet and make a deal with some team possibly willing to part with some solid depth.
Probably not much, but they could make it if they really want to though. There's a guy named Eli who could benefit be a new contract and the team too.
If Harrison, ever becomes a good guard for the Jets, I will absolutely flip out....
I believe that's how Dan Blackburn injured himself with the Rangers. Can't think of another athlete.
I guess Pugh is staying at OT
There's one record that certainly does speak for itself - yours.

Until proven otherwise, I have zero confidence in Newhouse, Jerry, Mosley, or Herman. Hart is a rookie seventh round pick that everyone admits needs to play guard in the NFL.
Mattingly didn't hurt himself lifting weights.
Also thinking this gives Schwartz and Flowers a shot at ROT. Loser moves to guard.
Wow. Blows. Hopefully we'll hear Tyron Smith is out for the year due to personal reasons.

No Flowers was drafted to be our LT of the future. It is true that he is going to start out at RT but in a year or two he will likely shift over to LT.

...Fu**ing great!
not too shabby, not too old, only schwartz being old, and he REALLY owes the league a respectable year.
was beatty lifting free weights or did he do this with a bench press?
where was the weight coach. If the tear happened at the end of the set..the conditioning coach has to answer some questions here.
I used to be able to bench 305 (2 sets of 10) with free weights, I am wondering if his hands were properly spaced on the lift, if he was doing free weights.
Heard an interview with Bill Cowher last year. He said that he gave strict instructions to the trainers that under no circumstances would he accept injuries that occur during the training process.
Brian Stork played very well last season
Added two more this year including huge Tre Jackson from Fla State

Collins was at his best doing what he did for the Bengals in 2013 as a reserve/rotational guy on the offensive line. He gave up no sacks in 673 snaps in that role.

Are they more likely to shift Pugh to LT and find a guard, like Hart?
damn.
A dirty little secret about those packer teams is that the offensive line wasn't much good. But, they didn't have to be since Rodgers is as mobile as they come.
Newhouse lost his job when they drafted his replacement. He didn't win a starting job in Cincinnati. He served as a backup swing tackle for 1 year.
that said, I am not as worried bout this as some.
jones might be a player:
Pugh/Jones/Richburg/Schwartz/Flowers
is still an improvement over last year, with pugh healed, at a more move oriented less power oriented spot, and possibly improved play all the way across from there.
So selfish. We couldve drafted Lael Collins in the 7th
David Deihl played by far his best football at left tackle, it was not the case that he played better at guard..or that guard is 'easier'.....it's different.... possibly pugh is a better left tackle than right tackle.. possibly he is better left tackle than a guard.
this could turn into a blessing in the long run
mosely is a tackle to guard conversion as well, I am thinking the canuk gets left guard, mosely backs up left tackle, and some fat slob backs up right tackle.
