@TomRock_Newsday: Am told Will Beatty just went in for surgery on torn pec at HSS. Recovery said to be 5 months. That's back on the field around November.
Beatty will end up going on Reserve PUP, which means:
Quote:
Commencing on the day after the conclusion of the sixth regular season weekend (October 28) and continuing through the day after the conclusion of the 11th regular season weekend (November 25), clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform for a period not to exceed 21 calendar days. Pads and helmets are permitted during the 21-day period. At any time during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, clubs are permitted to restore such players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform to their Active/Inactive List.
So Beatty can be stashed and not count against the 53 man roster and the Giants can pretty much keep him there up until Week 7 and leave him up through Week 11 before they have to make a decision to activate him or shut him down for the year. Assuming that he has a full recovery, it wouldn't hurt to get a "fresh" offensive lineman out there for the second half of the season. By that time, either Flowers has established himself at left tackle, or the Giants are holding on with someone at left tackle until Beatty is ready to come back.
its unbelievable all the money that rides on NFL players health and for some reason the Giants have one of the worst records in the NFL for games missed over the past 5 years.
Just unreal. Saw the quote above that they are looked at this too, what a mess.
Bobby Hart impresses and can play at LG. He has the attitude and maturity to step in, especially coming in from the school he played for. I think he can step up and hopefully unseat Jerry, who while I think be fine in Pass Pro. would make it impossible to run at all on the Left Side, making the run game one dimensional. Maybe Mosley finally gets it all together? Ugh, this is not good.
how on Earth can you advocate he be moved to LT? I think the initial plan has to be for Flowers to play LT... if he can't hack it through mini-camp and early in preseason, move him back to the right side.
Lets Hope this is our only serious injury to a starter.
Damn I have no idea where they go from here..
Would is be possible or even smart to deal a 1st
round pick for a solid starting Tackle ?
I didn't like the pick at the time, but thank goodness
shit like this happens and throws everything into chaos again.
Mt guess now is that Flowers and Pugh will play the OT positions and our OGs will be really thin even if Schwartz comes back healthy, unless Jones can win a starting job.

Flowers was NOT drafted to eventually take over LT. Every indication from the Giants and from his scouting reports is that he was drafted to play RT from day one and forward. I don't think this changes that. It does, however, point out their serious lack of depth on the OL. There isn't a single solution from within their existing roster that is even a decent one.
Someone on the Giants.com forums ( no legit source ) was saying Beatty was maxing out his BP at 515 and most NFL teams training programs for OL max out at 350.
I am sure its just opinion but thought i would add to discussion. LOL

Injury prone players tend to get injured.
The Giants have been one of the most injury prone teams in the NFL, it's not just chance. They need a new trainer something awful.
From Football Outsiders:
"Once upon a time a series of hamstring injuries made us wonder what exactly the Giants were going to get out of Odell Beckham Jr. He was the last 2014 first-round rookie to make his NFL debut, doing so in Week 5. Quickly we found out he could play as he put in one of the best rookie seasons ever in just 12 games.
But that quarter of a season he missed makes us wonder what more he could have achieved in 2014. The Giants had a lot of those "if only" dreams last year as they became the first team to lead the league in Adjusted Games Lost in back-to-back seasons". This is the fifth year in a row the Giants ranked 22nd or worse, and they have missed the playoffs in four of those seasons." Football Outsiders - ( New Window )
Coming home to potentially catastrophic news on BBI

Like i said its probably bullshit, but if not they must have gotten the information from someone on the inside. interesting to see if this comes out or goes poof over next few days.
I'm sure Flowers will now get an opportunity to play
LT in camp and the GIants might just leave Pugh at RT. Only players on this team capable of playing LT are Pugh and Flowers, oh and Newhouse (whom most don't even want on the team). Pugh's arms are too short to play LT and he had his problems at RT last year too. Flowers has all the tools and athleticism, but often lacks some fundamentals. I'm not sure how this will play out, but camp has now taken on a whole new meaning for the oline. The Giants success this year is predicated on the play of this Oline. I almost think Reese has to make a deal to get another tackle in here that can play. Newhouse is certainly not the answer and was not worth the mponey given either IMO. THis is going to be very interesting.
Beatty isn't "elite", far from it. But he's an above-average LT when he's feeling right, and he showed it last year. Nothing special and certainly some poor showings here and there, but overall Beatty was our best OL last year. Sucks that he's injured. This team was depending on him a lot.
Hoping for a strong recovery. Our OL situation is a mess right now, but this makes our Flowers selection look even better.
Pugh/Richburg/Flowers... you guys wanted us to invest in the OL like the Cowboys did, and the Giants listened. Those 3 guys are hopefully the future of our OL and we will need them all to play well this year. Pugh especially needs to take a step up and become a leader on the OL.
Just change them for the sake of change. How many times have coaches been fired unfairly for their players screwing up or lack of talent. These guys must have some correlation in the vast amount of players getting hurt.
Plus I never heard of S&C coaches being known as some great factor in a teams success (or failure)so why not roll the dice with someone else?
he will never be back. He gave us a few good years and we over paid him for those. Another Poor pick by Reese, who is untouchable, and the beat goes on and on. Sorry if I offended anyone but the record speaks for itself. This GM and his staff have buried us these last 10 years with their personnel selections

Yeah, we should give those two Super Bowl trophies back .
What else can you say? I just remembered, that deal Reese made with "You-Know-Who" for the last SB victory, was a 5 year deal.....now 2016 isn't looking good....
Only 11 days away; yet another countdown.

June 1st cuts are a thing of the past. Teams cut players at the start of the league year and can designate them post June 1st cuts.

after two seasons in a row where we had the most players in NFL on IR.
and yet people still REFUSE to believe the Giants S&C coaches are horrible and should have been fired last year

Wait what, our Center is hurt too or was that last year ? I have no doubts in my mind that staff is a HUGE problem.
Did anyone sign Jake Long yet?

Is this you saying this or Eli?
Blalock's visted a half-dozen teams but still hasn't been signed. My guess is his asking price is too high.
This fucking sucks!

But short-term, our depth is very shaky again.

Notto mention David Wilson....
Hopefully Flowers is the real deal and can lock down a starting job at RT as a rookie
No "hoping" about it now. He's GOT to.
LOL
Fortunately, they have a collection of candidates to
replace him.

Are there degrees of tear (I assume a tear requiring surgery is among the worst kinds)?
Any career threatening risks?
How solid is the 5 month recovery time; does that sound conservative or optimistic?
Is the return time more driven by time to regain strength or is it driven by re-injury risk?
Thanks in advance.
