To be completely honest I thought he was the kid as soon as they showed the music box. Too random an object to just randomly pop up in a post-apocalyptic dystopian scorched Earth.

Note that Max has the same leg brace. At the end of Mad Max he is shot in the leg and constructs that leg brace to help himself walk; he wears it in every film after. Including this one. It's part of the iconic look of Mad Max, as much as the V8 Interceptor and the leather jacket.

I like his interpretation, stated with great disdain, that fan theories are attempts to "outsmart the movies" while his entire piece is an attempt to prove he's smarter than the average fan.
