FYI.

Another nice

kid.
he's already being
area junc : 5/21/2015 3:45 pm : link
talked about as a leader by the other offensive linemen

I'm curious to see what his on-field make-up is because these guy just seems like a happy-go-lucky guy. He doesn't seem like a football player, but he was the best OL in the CFL. I do wonder if he is big enough.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/21/2015 3:46 pm : link
what's your guess on how the OL shakes out?
Eric
armstead98 : 5/21/2015 3:53 pm : link
Not only was he the best offensive lineman but he was voted rookie of the year! He's the only OL to ever win that award. For a rookie center to stand out that much he must have been absolutely dominant.

Oh, I've been overly touting him
Randy in CT : 5/21/2015 3:56 pm : link
because of his CFL accolades. The biggest thing seems to be how he'll fair with the change of guys being lined up over him with no buffer space.

Flowers - Schwartz - Richburg - Jerry - Pugh
I don't like Schwartz on the left side. He is and always has
Victor in CT : 5/21/2015 4:24 pm : link
been a right side player. They need a vet next to Flowers though. Jerry might be better suited for LG, but I'd rather not see him on the field if at all possible.
I'm hoping Jones or Hart win the left guard job
WillieYoung : 5/21/2015 4:27 pm : link
An undrafted player starting at left guard wearing number 69 worked out pretty well the last time we tried it. I'd keep Schwartz at right guard move Pugh to left tackle and have Flowers begin working at his ultimate position which I believe is right tackle.

it would look eerily similar physically to Diehl-Seubert-O'Hara-Snee-McKenzie. If only Schwartz were Snee and this group grows to that level of cohesion and toughness

By listing, he's an inch shorter than O'Hara and two inches shorter than Mangold and Pouncy, but a few pounds heavier than all. Is a couple inches of height when the weight is not an issue that big a deal for an OC?
I didn't realize
tomjgiant : 5/21/2015 6:15 pm : link
How short he is until seeing him on this video. He has good weight and I liked what I saw on the clips of him from Canada but will taller NFL DT's have an advantage because of the height difference?
i'M optimistic
grizz299 : 5/21/2015 6:22 pm : link
If a guy dominated a division 2 league as thoroughly as Jones dominated a professional league, we'd be looking at him differently. He wasn't drafted because it was assumed he was going to med. school.
I think he's the surprise.

Jerry has talent...the length and feet of an offensive tackle. He had poor coaching...confirmed (at least in my judgment) by the "bullying" issue. He had Walton to the left and a wound Pugh to the right. No reason he doesn't improve with a full camp under his belt.

Mosby flashed some talent before he got injured.

Hart is a tackle going to guard. Now remember Petrus, Brewer, Mc Cann, Hermann and a few others....The breaks always even out WE'RE DUE.!!
This is a super bowl year coming up....just minimize the injuries.

And the first bit of luck is.....

This happened early!!

Don't let the niceness fool you. Those Canadians have a mean streak a mile wide. Montreal Man is one of the most vicious individuals you ever want to meet.

I think his lack of size is not as big of an issue at center as it would be at guard, where a lot of BBI'ers seem to have him plugged at now.

Also, there are just some players who seem bigger or smaller than their listed size. He doesn't look like a 300 pounder to me.

Good point. That Montreal Man guy is vicious.
he's shorter
bc4life : 5/21/2015 7:42 pm : link
but heavier than Richburg
He's got a tremendous first punch and seems to have great
yatqb : 5/21/2015 7:42 pm : link
lateral movement. Sometimes he takes on two different blockers, going to his left then his right to block them, both in the hole the RB is moving toward. That's impressive to me, as he seems highly athletic.

I'm hopeful but not counting on anything.

Jerry's problems aren't all and maybe not veen mostly due to coaching. His coaches talked aboutb how he could be a special player, but only seemed to turn it up enough to kep a starting job. Might have a "want-to deficiency" aka "selective motor syndrome".
he had "Giant" coaching last year
bc4life : 5/21/2015 7:45 pm : link
and what did you see? Inconsistency.

Makes sense. I wasn't even thinking guard. The first thing I thought of when I saw him was, this guy just looks like a center.
He's listed as 315, Eric. Do you think that's smoke on the
yatqb : 5/22/2015 12:02 am : link
Giants' part? If he's 315 and squatty, that's a perfect body type for a Center. I have no idea if he can make the transition or play up to NFL standards, but he looks quite strong on tape and if he's actually his listed weight I'm not concerned about his ability to get leverage on running plays. Whether he gets beaten on pass blocks is another story.

Hoping for the best but expecting a backup.
look at those 2
area junc : 5/22/2015 9:22 am : link
highlights they show from CFL during the video. 1 play he knocks a DT on his f#cking ass 1 on 1, the other play he shows great feet and awareness picking up a loop stunt. and i mean GREAT. this kid moves like he's 200 lbs., its impressive
he is also tenacious. i hate to say it because seubert is my all-time favorite Giants OL but they look so similar

Looked a bit heavy footed to me, learning all the positions seems useless he is not an NFL tackle. Can he be a guard is another question but much more possible than tackle, he also did not look over 300 pounds in that video.

Eric, He was listed as 6'1" 316 on the official mini camp roster. I thought the Giants Measure and weigh all the participants prior to the start of the camp.

Yes, that's where I'm getting the 6'1'' from. Plus, if you see him stand next to Schmeelk, you can see he is a short guy.

Yes he is short. However, I believe he is 316. Watch his tape, he looks very impressive. Have to wait for training camp to see if it translates to the NFL.
Curious they signed him.....

instead of inviting him to tryout at the mini-camp. They must have gotten a glowing report from Hufnagel.

Iirc, the Giants were among several(possibly many) teams who were showing genuine interest..He never would have survived an invite, imo..He would have been snapped up well before

That's even more interesting. Thanks BB56. Didn't know that.
