NFT: Francesa Retiring?

CMicks3110 : 5/21/2015 4:23 pm
RT @jimbaumbach: Francesa says he's got his retirement date set, and adds, "it might be sooner than you think." Oh, imagine that last show.

I know a lot of people don't like him, but I will certainly miss Mike when he's gone.

Joe and Evan are looked at as the eventual replacement. They have been posting very high ratings.Boomer and Carton stay. They find another person to fill the 10-1 slot.

I'm afraid the holes in Evan and Joe's show turn up when they get extended to 5+ hours. At this point, Beningo is basically a character who's schtick wears thin when he's out of that comfort zone (see when he's on with Kim Jones and always steers off-topic). They are also terrible at interviews. Think of how structured they are for 3 hours, particularly during football season.

Evan and Jody Mac would be a better pair for my taste.

Matt, you got connections? Put me on the air!
Evan and Jody Mac?
Giants2012 : 5/21/2015 8:08 pm : link
Jody Mac gets replaced non-stop b/ he's an awful listen to so many.

Going to be very tough to find a replacement.

He's ok.

Kinda tough listen to a guy who sounds like he speaks with marbles in his mouth.

Then again, watch what we wish for. Watch the FAN pair Mad Dog with Michael Kay. Good Lord lol

My favorite Francesa move is when he has a professional athlete on, asks him a question and then jumps in and answers the question while talking over the athletes answer

It's amazing

Dic He Mention Retiring?
Samiam : 5/21/2015 10:20 pm : link
I've been listening to him and he hasn't mentioned retiring. He's having a problem with Fox and the TV broadcast but had not been talking retiring .

By the way, I enjoy the posts about him not knowing about sports.

Also, last month, the Mets and Yankees were both playing well, there was NFL draft news, Ranger playoff news and Beningo and Evan led off their show talking about the Nets in the 1st round of playoffs and wouldn't stop. Like someone gave a crap about the Nets besides Evan. You want this duo every afternoon?

Joe and Evan are good but there is a big difference between three hours of airtime with two people and what Mike does. He's a genius at his craft.

They do unless they get boxed in a corner. He signed a new contract and seems to be stuck in his situation. If retirement is the only option, i can see him taking it. He has more than enough money. It's interesting, his kids are so young, and if Mike F. does retire, that's early to have a dad that is retired.

look at IMUS, they basically had to run him to stations you can't hear or care about and he's still broadcasting to no one. They dont leave usually.
Could Mike's trips left out of the tunnel be limited? say it isn't so!

but always liked Joe and Evan better than Francesa. Why? Because he lets his callers talk, and doesn't just stammer over top of them saying the same thing that isn't even tangentially related to the issue the caller is talking about.

Francesa does that constantly. I know that that's supposed to be "compelling radio" but I'll take something like Joe and Evan or Big Blue Kickoff Live, where they actually attempt at having a conversation about different topics and don't act like everything that comes out of a hosts mouth is gospel. It's boring.

Cult hero, mainly for the unintentional comedy.

Though there are some fans who zealously need to recite his accomplishments and defend him like they get a check from him.

you do realize that 770 is one of the top stations on NY radio and Fox Business has great ratings (where he's on TV).. and his ratings are very good in the morning.

Giants2012 : 5/22/2015 9:58 am : link
IMO, it's b/c his competition is horrid. Mike does have brain and speak about topics besides sports. He might not be 100% correct but he's not an idiot like other sports personalities. Evan Roberts, Beningo, Malusis, Captain Midnight, are morons IMO. Then you add in lame personalities like Jody Mac, Richard Neer and company, who else is there to listen too?

Tune into Boston, Philly and Chicago sports radio is an almost unlistenable. They're like NFL pregame shows. They're terrible.

Turn on the dial on Mike when he's annoying but he's still far and away the best in the business b/c everybody sucks IMO.

They led off with playoff bball rather than April baseball. This is something you have a problem with.

And this is why you can't please everyone.
I live in Maryland and tune in every day to WFAN

Francesa was why I started to listen, but Joe & Evan are why I stayed. I really enjoy their show and I think they do a good job structuring their show so that they're giving a decent amount of time to every NY sports team. I still like Francesa, but as a Giants and Yankees fan it's tough to keep it on when, like one poster mentioned, he talks about the Mets and horses for 2 hours straight.

With that said, I understand why he does it a lot of the time and I don't know if Joe & Evan would be able to maintain the same pace with that longer time slot. Also, I agree - Beningo's act does get tired.
I want to like Joe

really.. I do.

his overreacting of everything and the over-use of the word BRO kills me.

I feel that when he gives interviews the people he interviews thinks it's a joke.

I agree with this. He does function as comic relief for the most part, but their ratings have steadily grown as the Jets/Mets have floundered, so people are tuning in for the meltdowns, BRO.
Joe IS there for comic relief and everyman perspective

I'll take the other side. Russo made me change the station. Stupid and obnoxious with a grating voice. Elmer Fudd on speed.
Things must be really bad between him and CBS. He just said

"things are not good". It's not a contract or money issue, but that the team is going in a "different direction" and he "never felt that way before". When asked if he would be here for the 2015 NFL season he said "most likely". Wow.

As someone said above, Francesa is gold when it comes to bashing the Jets. He also loves to mock tri-state area Cowboy fans. At those times, he's hilarious. But he really doesn't bring much in the way of genuine sports analysis
