NFT: Francesa Retiring?

CMicks3110 : 5/21/2015 4:23 pm
RT @jimbaumbach: Francesa says he's got his retirement date set, and adds, "it might be sooner than you think." Oh, imagine that last show.

I know a lot of people don't like him, but I will certainly miss Mike when he's gone.

If I announce my last day on aiyah anytime soon, FrancesaCon 2016 will be a fyooneral, ok. A bunch of mongos cryin and reminiscin
he was measuring up amount of shows he did
micky : 5/21/2015 4:33 pm : link
Between his afternoon slot and NFL show to letterman. Said letterman had done 7,000 shows and did as well with combine shows. What he didn't calculate that he takes off for month or two..so he I don't think comes close to what he said.

I think he used 45 weeks per year, so I'm assuming that covers most of his vacation time.
He has discussed retirement before
bxgiants4 : 5/21/2015 4:38 pm : link
On his show and he always seemed pretty content and satisfied with walking away in the not too distant future
Didn't he openly admit a year or so ago that the contract
jlukes : 5/21/2015 4:38 pm : link
he just signed would be his last?
a bit of an asshat on this one
Matt in SGS : 5/21/2015 4:41 pm : link
but he's been clashing with management more and more lately. Joe and Evan have very good ratings. His act is wearing thin with top, particularly at his salary. Lots of behind the scenes stuff going on.
The sooner
Jan in DC : 5/21/2015 4:47 pm : link
the better.
He can be good with respect to football
njm : 5/21/2015 4:48 pm : link
But when he spends 80% of his air time on horses and the Mets 2 hours before a Rangers conference championship game I don't think it would be a huge loss.
I like Joe and Evan
CMicks3110 : 5/21/2015 4:48 pm : link
particularly Evan, who I think is extremely knowledgeable and diverse in his interests. I just hope that Boomer and Carton don't get the 1 p.m. slot. I can't stand them. I want a sports show, not some half-ass sports/clowning around radio show.
I actually like Joe and Evan's show.
bceagle05 : 5/21/2015 4:50 pm : link
They talk sports the way fans talk sports - guys like Francesa, Kay, Boomer and Carton, etc. are pompous assholes.

There's no way B&C move to the afternoon drive. Their shtick is perfectly made for the morning, ala Stern.

Love the idea of Joe & Evan, and completely agree with your point about Evan. Francesa is still my favorite host (mainly because of the fake Francesa's impact) but Evan's opinion holds the highest regard in my book.
apparently
Matt in SGS : 5/21/2015 4:55 pm : link
Joe and Evan are looked at as the eventual replacement. They have been posting very high ratings.Boomer and Carton stay. They find another person to fill the 10-1 slot.
How about Evan
Dave M : 5/21/2015 4:57 pm : link
And someone who actually knows about sports other than the Jets and Mets?
I think they should make the morning show
CMicks3110 : 5/21/2015 5:00 pm : link
Francessa and Steve Somers. I think that show would be hilarious.
A lot of people don't like Joe and Evan, but I think they're
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/21/2015 5:13 pm : link
the best thing on local radio. Probably says more about the state of local radio.

You mean Evan the Wrestling fan? Yikes, although maybe he's coming around and he admitted the saber stat "WAR is stupid".

I would guess they would bring Dog back.
I thought he was retired

act like Francessa isn't awesome what he does. He's a legend.

Joe and Evan are good but there is a big difference between three hours of airtime with two people and what Mike does. He's a genius at his craft.
It would be cool if the Mad Dog came on the air for that last show
NYG27 : 5/21/2015 5:44 pm : link
Hopefully Mike can put his ego and personal differences to the side and invite Chris to co-host with him on his last show. It would be a fitting ending to that sports talk era.

So right ODB. He does 5 1/2 hours a day solo. And he's interesting everyday. He will be difficult to replace. JOe and Evan suck. 2 whining imbeciles crying about the Jets, Mets, Knicks and Nets ad nauseum. 5 1/2 hours a day of them for a week and FAN will be playing music

I'm afraid the holes in Evan and Joe's show turn up when they get extended to 5+ hours. At this point, Beningo is basically a character who's schtick wears thin when he's out of that comfort zone (see when he's on with Kim Jones and always steers off-topic). They are also terrible at interviews. Think of how structured they are for 3 hours, particularly during football season.

Evan and Jody Mac would be a better pair for my taste.

Matt, you got connections? Put me on the air!
Evan and Jody Mac?
Giants2012 : 5/21/2015 8:08 pm : link
Jody Mac gets replaced non-stop b/ he's an awful listen to so many.

Going to be very tough to find a replacement.

He's ok.

Kinda tough listen to a guy who sounds like he speaks with marbles in his mouth.

Then again, watch what we wish for. Watch the FAN pair Mad Dog with Michael Kay. Good Lord lol

My favorite Francesa move is when he has a professional athlete on, asks him a question and then jumps in and answers the question while talking over the athletes answer

It's amazing

it should be a rule that everyone who posts on a Francessa thread has to type like how Francessa talks. Because it is funny ever time.
No effing way he's retiring
Pete in VA : 5/21/2015 9:39 pm : link
This is his way of saying that he's as just as important as Letterman. He's about as narcissistic as they come. Not an idiot when it comes to baseball, but fakes it with respect to football.
Anyone but Sid Rosenberg.

Dic He Mention Retiring?
Samiam : 5/21/2015 10:20 pm : link
I've been listening to him and he hasn't mentioned retiring. He's having a problem with Fox and the TV broadcast but had not been talking retiring .

By the way, I enjoy the posts about him not knowing about sports.

Also, last month, the Mets and Yankees were both playing well, there was NFL draft news, Ranger playoff news and Beningo and Evan led off their show talking about the Nets in the 1st round of playoffs and wouldn't stop. Like someone gave a crap about the Nets besides Evan. You want this duo every afternoon?

As opposed to who? Lupica? Sid Rosenberg? Boomer and Carton? Careful what you wish for.

They do unless they get boxed in a corner. He signed a new contract and seems to be stuck in his situation. If retirement is the only option, i can see him taking it. He has more than enough money. It's interesting, his kids are so young, and if Mike F. does retire, that's early to have a dad that is retired.

look at IMUS, they basically had to run him to stations you can't hear or care about and he's still broadcasting to no one. They dont leave usually.
Could Mike's trips left out of the tunnel be limited? say it isn't so!

Jan in DC : 5/22/2015 9:14 am : link
but always liked Joe and Evan better than Francesa. Why? Because he lets his callers talk, and doesn't just stammer over top of them saying the same thing that isn't even tangentially related to the issue the caller is talking about.

Francesa does that constantly. I know that that's supposed to be "compelling radio" but I'll take something like Joe and Evan or Big Blue Kickoff Live, where they actually attempt at having a conversation about different topics and don't act like everything that comes out of a hosts mouth is gospel. It's boring.

Cult hero, mainly for the unintentional comedy.

Though there are some fans who zealously need to recite his accomplishments and defend him like they get a check from him.
