Giants Offensive Line Durability - Then And Now

Trainmaster : 5/21/2015 5:21 pm
Oh, the good old days:

Quote:
The streak is over at an NFL record 38 games.

That’s how many consecutive times the same Giants offensive line and quarterback Eli Manning had started a game in the regular season. It was a streak that was in jeopardy a few weeks ago when Manning was battling a foot injury.

The Giants started the same five linemen (David Diehl, Rich Seubert, Shaun O'Hara, Chris Snee and Kareem McKenzie) and same quarterback (Eli Manning) for an NFL-record 38 straight games before McKenzie missed Sunday night's game [Oct 2009] with a groin injury.

Still, the fact the same linemen and quarterback had been out there in the same spots since the start of the 2007 championship season (except for the playoff victory in Tampa, which O’Hara sat out) has meant plenty to the Giants’ offense.

The contrast between 2007 through 2009 and 2013 through the first part of the 2015 as far as offensive line quality and durability are obviously key factors in past success and current struggles. Hopefully some younger, less injury prone linemen are in the Giants future.

People failed to realize just how odd it was for the Giants OL to stay that healthy in the mid 2000s. Which allowed them stability as a unit. Was hoping for it with this season with a new RT and move by Pugh or the next few years but...
were they all before Jerry Reese?
