NFT: Broken fibula rehab

giantgiantfan : 5/21/2015 6:10 pm
Anyone ever had to rehab their fibula? I fractured mine in 2 places in the beginning of February (3.5 months ago). I can walk correctly now without a limp, which took only a few days of retraining, but I still can't run. I'm 30 years old and active, love playing basketball at the park, and this is fucking frustrating.

I've only started getting serious about my rehab for about 2 weeks now doing various stretches every day, weight training for quad, ham, glute, and calf, other strange exercises like standing on one foot etc... some of these cause discomfort and slight swelling, but I've read this is normal.

Anyways, if you've had this injury how long until you were fully recovered? Advice welcome, considering scheduling an appointment with a physical therapist at this point.

just above my ankle a few years back( I was 48). I'd say it took me about 6-7 months to make a full recovery but I use nicotine products which slows down recovery.

Keep doing what your doing. Have faith, you'll get there soon.
I haven't had this injury

I'm recovering from ruptured achilles 5months ago, still limping really bad. Do you have a doctor writing you a script for PT? I would think you should have some guide from a doc and then PT on what to do & when. Good luck and keep working at it.

No advice but wishng you a safe recovery. Guessing those pins (assuming you had some) osseointegrated and that bone is back to type 1.

Good Luck

I broke my fibula near the bottom of the bone last June. Had to have a 4 inch plate with 10 screws installed. Now 11 months since surgery and ankle still a bit swollen and slightly painful. Ankle cracks a lot when I rotate it around. From what I understand from the orthopedic surgeon, it could take up to 18 months before full recovery. Don't get discouraged. It takes time to heal fully, but you'll quickly get back to essentially normal pretty quickly. I'm able to run, but not at full speed yet. Training to run a 5k race in a few weeks and my times now are about 2 mins. slower than before the injury. Hang in there and keep pushing the range of motion.

when I was like 12 Dec 31st 1999 spent Y2k in the hospital. I didn't start walking till May and didn't really make a full recovery (running and all) till July. I was limping and gained a shit ton of weight. Worst time of my life.
