If he's found guilty
Mike in Long Beach : 5/22/2015 9:58 am : link
How can he get anything except death? He tortured a child in front of his parents and then killed them all.

I always classify myself as whole-heartedly against it.. until I hear stories like this.
No Death Penalty in DC

assuming they retain jurisdiction. Although this is certainly the type of crime in which it would be hard to argue against it.
The circumstances of the arrest

A car and a van suggest moving in tandem that this might have been a crew that carried out this crime. The question arises as to how many were involved in the actual murders. For them ,capital punishment is certainly warranted.
Over a 2 day period you had

A housekeeper claim she thought the family was acting very odd over the phone and behaving well outside their normal routine

Neighbors claiming they made police reports prior to the kidnapping of a man banging on doors in the neighborhood, an aggressive salesman, and a report of a prowler.

One of the oddest pizza deliveries I have heard of which was similar to a dead drop transaction

An employee ordered to bring 40K to the house at very odd hours.

Just one lucky break involving all these weird and suspicious interactions might have said this poor family.
Saved this family

Not "said"
I know this sounds like a tease

But on a personal level I, as well as my firm at the corporate level, are involved in helping the family as they are clients. I can't divulge anything, but this is a heartbreaking situation. We've done a lot of work, even over this past weekend, to assist the patriarch of the family (the deceased's husband's father) begin in earnest to settle the family's affairs and estate. Distraught is too simple a word to describe what they are going through.

It's just unimaginable to me how family members pick up the pieces after something this atrocious happens. I cannot imagine how the two teenage girls that were away at boarding school go on with their lives. It's just so freaking sad.
anyone who has had a family member

or significant other murdered, will tell you that to some extent it remains an open wound for the living survivors.
My aunt and uncle were killed in Hartford Ct

in 1996- similar circumstances. He was an orthopedic surgeon who like my father got his medical degree through the ROTC. During the first gulf war he re-enlisted (at great personal expense) for 2 years because he was concerned about treatment at the VA with all the docs going over seas. What more needs to be said about him. The 2 thugs that killed him are serving life as beating them to death while they were bound and gagged did not meat the Conneticut standard for the death penalty of "depraved indifference"

It is very hard to see the kind of attention certain "victims" get in our society and people like Pat and Jack are long forgotten.
there was a very similar case in Richmond in 2006

May these perpetrators suffer whatever they consider to be the worst possible punishment imaginable.

I remember watching the HBO special re: those murders. The one thing that still sticks with me is when the younger murderer referred to the teenage daughter by her nickname - that made my head want to explode.
