Michael Bamiro

Rose Bowl 86 : 5/22/2015 8:26 am
Every once in awhile his name is mentioned as a member of the offensive line. Never discussed as a possible solution for our o-line problem. Does anyone have any information about him? Any potential there for a back-up position or is he just a camp body?
He's got a major climb
JonC : 5/22/2015 8:28 am : link
just to make the bottom of the roster.
I had a simiilar question...
Capt. Don : 5/22/2015 8:45 am : link
he appears to be an intriguing prospect. I was hoping Sy or one of the other draft experts would give an analysis.
Seubert and Ohara were both UDFA's

so its not like it couldnt happen. Bamiro is a huge.. 6ft 8... 340 lbs.. long arms and apparent has decent feet.. so he will at least get a chance..
My memory is that he was a high bonus UDFA by Philly

who was then cut, and cut again by a second team. I'm not getting my hopes up. A line with that size on one side and Flowers on the other would excite me, if only he could play.
It would

Be awesome if he could be even a decent player for us. His size alone is incredible.
I wouldnt count out
Joe in CT : 5/22/2015 10:10 am : link
some one like Sean Donnelly either, the UDFA tackle out of Tulane. He is another big tackle that the Giants have shown interest in.

No, he wasn't cut by a second team. He was cut by the Eagles in August, 2014, after spending a year on their practice squad, and we signed him in November for our PS, then signed him to a futures contract in December.
I wonder what the Giants

ranking of OTs Bamiro, DOnnelly are (who they think more highly of). I wonder if they pursued Hickey as a UDFA.
One man's opinion of Bamiro.

I found this video of a guy talking about Bamiro prior to his signing with the Eagles. I'm not familiar with this guy or his web site, but I thought I'd post it anyway in case some of you are interested.

He got an unusually large guaranteed portion of his contract
Mad Mike : 5/22/2015 10:56 am : link
for an UDFA and the Eagles still cut him. That doesn't speak very highly of his prospects.
no, and if we're talking him as a potential "solution"
JonC : 5/22/2015 10:57 am : link
what's the expectation? Depth? Ok, let's see him make the team.

Potential starter? Very low expectations would be more reasonable, imv.
Newhouse will get a crack here
JonC : 5/22/2015 11:01 am : link
this is why they signed him, and chances are he's better than what you'll find another team willing to trade at this stage.

Shane Hallam is a good draft guy. He basically replaced Scott Wright on Draft Countdown and is now doing his own thing.
I wouldn't read into too much about Chip Kelly releasing him
Mason : 5/22/2015 12:22 pm : link
as a bad sign about his ability to fit in with the Giants. Kelly has made it very clear that his blocking schemes differs greatly from other teams and he mentioned Giants philosophy. Bamiro may not fit his schemes.
Only the coaches, staff...

and players can give meaningful insight into that question. The only reason he went undrafted was that he planned on going back for (1) more year of college ball but was declared inelligible after the deadline to register for the draft. Regardless of his actual performance compared to the starting and b/u OT's with the Eagles, he honed his skills, technical and physical, after he was cut by the Eagles. He held down the right side while Stonybrook had (2) 1000 yd rushers in 2012 and was named first team All Big South. He impressed at his workout in December and he is still with the team. Beatty's injury assures him of an opportunity to make the team. He also worked at OT and OG with the Eagles as well as the Giants during the rookie mini-camp.

if someone on the OL would just come out of the blue and surprise, that would be huge.

I hope the coaches give these guys a fair shake.
Can only hope ...

I fear the job will be handed to the human turnstile - John Jerry

isn't just that the Eagles released him twice, it's that he was on their PS for nearly a year before they released him again. So they got a long look at him, and didn't even want him on their PS. Nobody picked him up until we did in November of last year. Big body from a small school. Raw. PS seems his best chance, but unknowns do emerge at TC.
There's a group of offensive linemen like Bamiro on the roster.

Guys who have some NFL-level attributes, and who have been around the league for a while, but haven't done anything and are approaching the end of their shelf life:
Michael Bamiro, 10/9/90, 3rd year (two on PS)
Brandon Mosley, 12/21/88, 4th year (one on IR)
Eric Herman 10/5/89 3rd year (one on PS)
Adam Gettis, 12/9/88, 4th year (on on PS)
Troy Kropog, 7/31/1986, 7th year (two on PS)

Kropog is on the aging fringe of this list - especially with his injury - and Dallas Reynolds is too old to make it at all. The first four still might have upside, and a couple of those will likely make the team. For any of them to ever have a significant impact, however, will require beating some pretty steep odds.
