NFT: Ads are making BBI unreadable on iPhone

guys...odd that it has changed because we haven't changed anything. I'll check with Gary to make sure.

also is odd is that almost all of the ad issues people have complained about the last few years have had to do with iPhones (not all, but most).

I wonder what it is about ad networks and iPhones.

Is the basic problem that it is squeezing the text to a few words per line? Or is it something else?

I haven't been on my phone much, but it was happening on every thread I looked at yesterday throughout the day.

My wife has a Droid (I didn't know she had one) and I don't see the text getting bigger, but it is shifted to the left to the left of the ads and it doesn't go back below the ads.

A few threads show up normally.

What I am seeing is only a few words per line - all to the left of the 300x250 ads. And below these ads, it does not go back to normal.

Gary is going to tinker with some script. Things might get a bit screwy while we play with it.

As much as you try to resist it, BBI needs to go to an ad free subscription based model. I can't fathom why it hasn't already. You would be able to make much more charging 50 bucks a year to 1000 people than the pennies you make from these crappy ad companies.

There has to be a reason.

The reason is people are cheap fucks and would not pay it. The site would then be destroyed, because there wouldn't be enough people who would actually pay.

I disagree though. You have to figure that there are 1000 people in this world that think that BBI is worth 13 cents a day. I'd bet there are over 1000 people who check the site more than 10 times a day.

I can't speak for everyone but 50 bucks for not having to deal with the BS of the ads, plus perhaps giving Eric some real $$ to increase infrastructure and (as we have seen recently) security is a no brainer. I had serious hacking issues with my e-mail and some financial institutions because of that hack.

People like to bitch, but people are cheap. I agree with you I'd pay it, and I do donate every year (not a substantial amount, but I do donate)

If Eric went to a pay model you would see membership probably decrease by 80%.

There are a dozen free NYG's sites out there. I have felt for years that a subscription based model would kill BBI. A lot of regulars may pony up, but there would be little future growth and as older regulars leave the site, the site would die.

I could be wrong, but that's what I think would happen.

As an example only a few hundred people donate, and that includes many donations below $10.

Because people won't pony up for online access. $50 for access to a forum is a fantasy. The site would die for sure.

Show me other sites that are successful with that business model.

I think it's more of the fact that BBI is free. While donations are solicited it's still going to be there in the morning.

Just imagine this....Big free agent signed next season. A whopper of a move. Everyone clamoring to throw in their 2 cents.

Where do you go to discuss it? Giants.com? I'd rather hang myself.

If 300 people donate right now, and the average donation is like $20 you are talking $6,000 bucks? That is 120 members. Your yearly revenue should be 20 times that amount on a site with the amount of page hits you get per day.

The key would be to get some perks set up. Exclusive player interview threads, swag pack at signup, that sort of thing.

Maybe it's the entrepreneur in me (I own 3 successful businesses) but when I look at this place I see volume and I see great user created content.

This isn't a newspaper or magazine with static content.

There is simply no other place online to have a real discussion about the Giants on the entire internet. That has value.

Again, show me another forum site of any type that charges a fee.

The internet is largely free. Users chafe at paying fees. Most sites that tried to charge them have died.

Adblock Plus and don't look back.

back to being an issue when i tried this morning, went away temporarily last night

Using a Samsung Galaxy S5 with current version of Android OS.

worse and worse every day

I've moved the ad boxes to the bottom of the page when the screen is less than 825 pixels wide. That seems to be the breakpoint when a misbehaving ad will start impinging on the text.

You may need to reload/refresh and let me know if this causes other issues.

Are they different type of ads? My apologies if you have answered this already. I haven't read through all of the different threads on this.

The problem is that the ads do weird things to the site and don't in any kind of consistent way, so trying to fix it is a big pain.

MookGiants said he was still seeing the old problem after the first fix, but others said it seemed to be better.
