perfectly timed for this. At least we'll have him for 6 games. Maybe he even gets back for the New England game, but after the bye seems to make a lot more sense...
I generally lean optimistic for injuries, but you're talking about 5-6 months of probably not being able to work on your upper body strength. For a tackle who isn't very big to begin with, that could be huge.
Has to be rooting against Ereck Flowers. Beatty getting cut can save us how much exactly? We need to resign Manning, JPP, and Prince
If you cut him next year (as a Pre-June 1st cut), then the Giants will gain $4,175,000 in cap savings. If they designate him as a post-June 1st cut, then the Giants will gain $6,675,000 in cap savings. Please see the link below:

I believe that we will not see Beatty in Blue again.
Having been a gym rat since the 80's, I've seen torn pecs once in a while.
If Beatty was just a guy, not a NFL player, sure he'd be fine in a few months. 100% back to normal work, etc.
For weight lifers/gym folks, it normally means a year w/o heavy lifting.
I'd think that of all the positions in football, an offensive lineman probably uses his chest muscles the most to fend off an attack and push, shove.

According to that salary page, if they cut him post-June 1st THIS year, they'd gain $4.9 million in cap space NOW.
they can't cut him. He got injured in a football activity. Beatty would have to agree to an injury settlement and there is no reason for him to do that.
Guess OL in 1st round is looking more and more like the right
1 - This further proves Beatty is not long for this team, and the Flowers decision was wise. Imagine this team without Flowers now? Not a comforting thought.
2 - Beatty will most likely be getting the Luke Petitgout treatment next off-season circa the off-season following 2006.
3 - The Giants would be wise to pick another OL high--again--in the draft next year (round 1 or 2).

this injury should seal the deal for beatty's exit. He's had a few injuries, but nothing really chronic.
now if you want to say Beatty hasn't been performing well enough, and that he'll likely see IR, then be replaced on the timetable BBI had already set, you might have a point.
maybe it's just semantics, but I don't see this injury hastening his departure. IF they were planning on keeping him, they'll keep him. IF they were planning on getting rid of him after this season, they'll still get rid of him after this season (or give him an injury settlement for getting rid of him sooner - same difference from a Giants perspective)
As for the injury settlement: on the one hand, he'll make a good buck if he just says "IR me and give me my year's salary". On the other hand, IF I understand injury settlements correctly, he could get a payday from the settlement, then resume his career with a new team later this season, getting a head start on the rest of his career, making it possible he'd accept the settlement.

Thanks Eric. I hadn't realized that until you posted it on another thread.

Totally agree. Time to move on from this guy

If we don't need him when he gets back healthy.....probably means the end of Beattys career as a Giants.
