what teams are loaded at Tackle right now?

Andy in Boston : 5/22/2015 9:56 am
I know its incredibly difficult to make a trade right now, but are there teams that have 3 or 4 really good tackles, the might be willing to trade 1 for a draft pick? Giants will have a ton of $$ in Free Agency next year, so I'd be willing to part with a 2nd or 3rd rounder for a good player.
Or maybe a late cap casualty cut, post June 1st?

Thoughts?
Does it make sense to look for a tackle

or a guard at this point?

Kelechi Osemele plays LG but also played RT the year they won the super bowl.
If they really want to get another starter

They could sign Blalock as a FA. He's still out there and certainly fills the bill.

Ugh - wanted him rather than David Wilson. Good call.
Even without Beatty, they have four players

I think Tackle.
Brandon Mosley - What is his status ?

Still on the roster; will he be in the mix to compete for the offensive line? At one time, he was considered starting material. Then he was injured; but still on the roster.

for better or worse, we're going to go with guys we already have. I guess with the exception of the June cuts coming up.
We need to
Metnut : 5/22/2015 10:37 am : link
add to our depth in any case. I wouldn't mind either trading a pick for another linemen or using our remaining cap room (I believe we still have $6-7M right?) to add some depth.

There is no reason to assume that they are done adding.
Adding is unlikely

Depth is one thing, but acquiring a tackle that would be able to win a starting gig is another. Depth tends to be best handled by a player with some immersion in the system.
If the questiion is depth

perhaps Kevin Boothe can be resigned. Not as a starter but a fairly versatile reserve.
Yeah

I really don't think the Giants are in a position (both philosophically and cost wise) to trade with another team for a starting Tackle

They are going to have to make do with this

It sad that one player at a key position can impact the team this way, but it is what it is.
Not what NYG fans want to hear

Giants have to really look at what they currently have on the roster before the look for outside possibilities. We have a lot of bodies that while they haven't made a name for themselves can quite possibly prove to be an asset to this team.Bobby Hart will probably get multiple looks at different positions during training camp.
No Faith.
chiefmps : 5/22/2015 11:03 am : link
I have no faith that the Giants will now do what is needed. No effort to sign quality free agents and a draft that, will let say should have been better. Using a first round pick on a right tackle, Flowers, make no sense; many expects will tell you that Flowers is not a left tackle. No faith in Jerry the GM, how is it that he is still the GM?
It's tough right now
bubba0825 : 5/22/2015 11:04 am : link
To think about jerry starting again this year, I don't trust Newhouse either, I'm not sure but I think he was benched I. Green Bay
no sexy pick next year in the 1st round, we go offensive line
gtt350 : 5/22/2015 11:24 am : link
again and we should consider the 2nd round as well

What a ridiculous post. No effort to sign quality free agents? How do you know? Are you in contact with the agents? What free agents would you have signed? Which of these "experts" were you referring to? Flowers did not allow a sack last year and allowed only 2 pressures despite going up against the likes of Randy Gregory, Eli Harrold, and Mario Edwards just to name a few. How is he still the GM? Perhaps the two Superbowls that he has won in his 8 years here. Also he is coming off a great 2014 draft in which the Giants already have 3 starters from including Beckham who is already a top 5 receiver in the NFL. Also Bromley, Williams, Berhe, and Bennett Jackson might also develop into starters.

The draft should have been better? The Giants got three first round talents in Flowers, Collins, and Odighizuwa
I think we should try to sign
Big Rick in FL : 5/22/2015 12:17 pm : link
Anthony Collins. He was really bad with the Bucs, but prior to that he was a pretty good Tackle. Was very highly rated by PFF. He had a +27.3 rating prior to getting to Tampa.

Probably could get him for the veteran minimum & that is the only way I'd sign him.

IMO it has a lot to do with the Bucs organization. They are terrible. They sign all of these players that were studs before they got there. All of them turn out terrible in Tampa. All of these players can't just all the sudden get bad. Revis, Goldson, Michael Johnson, Anthony Collins, Alterraun Verner, Eric Wright, Carl Nicks.

There's so much wrong here.
Did Laken Tomlinson get drafted?

If not Giants should offer him a camp invite.

It's funny...I really wanted the Giants to sign Collins prior to the 2014 draft, if for no other reason than to make it less likely that they'd reach for an OT early. I said so in a number of threads.

I couldn't believe how terrible he was in Tampa Bay, though.

Is a pretty thin position in the league right now. When a guy as terrible as Tyler Polumbus gets a job, it's slim pickings.
Nobody is "loaded" at tackle. Why do you think there is such a premium

Mosley was drafted to be a guard. I don't think the team sees him as a OT (he may not even be on the team when camp breaks)

Posts like this suck shit.

It assumes that you have a better grasp of FA and drafting than those in charge and that because people didn't do what you wanted them to do, it is wrong.

Just an absolutely horrific stand to take.
How is drafting a RT not acceptable?
Matt M. : 5/22/2015 1:58 pm : link
Some scouts had him rated as the best OL in the draft, but everyone had him somewhere in the top 5. They got OL play they were nto satisfied with at RT last year, along with LG. They drafted a guy to fill one of those spots from day one, with the incumbent expected to slide to LG with ease. Where is the problem here?

As for the last few years, they have spent high picks on OL 3 years in a row and all 3 are expected to start. Again, where is the problem?

never rule out signing a vet LT, either.
