Rented a car from Dollar while visting Tampa in March. I preface this by saying that Dollar has been known to play games with how they word agreements which customers sign resulting in suprise charges.
While picking up my car, the Dollar employee asked if we wanted to have all tolls automatically paid via their EZPass system (forget what it's called). We opted no, since we wouldn't hardly be driving and they do charge you additional just to have this ability. The Dollar employee then stated that there are some toll roads in the area that you can't pay, and need the EZPass. Upon hearing this, we were thinking here goes Dollar again trying to take advantage.
Fast foward four weeks later and I receive a bill for .94 cents plus a $15 administrative fee for an apparent toll we didn't pay. And I do remember driving around Tampa before we left where it said a toll was coming up, but never did see it and didn't give it much thought. Until we got the letter.
Is it indeed true that there are toll roads in Tampa Bay proper which you can't acutally pay???? And has anyone else experienced this?
Ben, thanks. So if I had my car down there........and dont have the EZPass.......how does the state of FL bill me?
Toll + administrative fee?
There really needs to be regulation put in places that either waives those fees for rental cars or provides an option to pay cash. I don't see how they get away with it.
I know the rental car companies have wording that protects them, but I got rung up with a $3 toll but a $15 admin fee from National.
Why does a dog lick his balls?
Its a pain in the ass otherwise as you now know.
So, I ALWAYS use the rental car toll pass thing. They charge a very small admin fee but it is worth it. About a month later you will see the additional charge on your cc bill for the total of the tolls that you used.
I use National
