Chad Jones or David Wilson

BNY Giants Club : 5/22/2015 5:30 pm
If you could go back in time and erase the career ending injury of one of these two guys and have them still play for us, who would it be?
I know we never got to see Chad Jones's product on the field but I'd pick him. Like most, I was really looking forward to seeing what he could in the secondary.
Like it or not

Wilson was a first round draft pick. Have to want the 1 back over the third rounder.
Wilson
SHO'NUFF : 5/22/2015 5:51 pm : link
hands down. A higher round draft pick at a position of greater impact.
Chad Jones
Mason : 5/22/2015 5:51 pm : link
I thought he was a steal in the 3rd round. He is the type of safety that is now the crazed in the NFL. They wanted to match him up against TEs (Witten). Giants thought they had their safety unit locked down with the signing of Rolle, a young KP and then drafting Jones.

Still smh @ the bad luck but glad he is still alive and able to walk after that horrific accident.
The only thing Wilson
mrvax : 5/22/2015 5:57 pm : link
ever really did in the NFL was those damn k/o returns where you could see the incredible explosion and shiftiness. It's a damn shame he is out of football. I think he'd have been better than Shady.

Reminded me of Barry Sanders.
Wilson without a doubt
Gmen703 : 5/22/2015 6:02 pm : link
I wish he lasted to see the current offense. Should have thrown him the ball more out in space.
Wilson
spike : 5/22/2015 6:15 pm : link
would have been a playmaker at RB by this season.
My God
bc4life : 5/22/2015 6:54 pm : link
I can only imagine what Wilson could have done in this offense.
We never saw Chad Jones play a single down in the NFL.
81_Great_Dane : 5/22/2015 7:06 pm : link
David Wilson was a Pro Bowl return man in his short time with the Giants, and was still learning the running back position when he was forced to retire. We don't know what his ceiling was.

I don't see how anyone could choose Jones based on anything other than daydreams or an unreasonable animus toward Wilson.

Jones was an intriguing prospect though. Damn shame about that guy.
Wilson was a KR
averagejoe : 5/22/2015 8:05 pm : link
He was not a RB. You don't draft a KR in round one. He was drafted to start but was still a third stringer after two camps. He was a wasted pick before the injury. He ran blind with his head down even in drills and that was how he injured himself.

We don't know what Jones could have been but their situations are not comparable.
Which 3rd grade crush do I wish had liked me back more?
Mad Mike : 5/22/2015 8:08 pm : link
Who gives a shit? They're both gone, it sucks, but it is what it is. But anyway, Wilson. He showed that he could radically impact nfl games. Jones? Who knows?
Troy ffffinnnn Archer and it aint close!
BlueLou : 5/22/2015 8:17 pm : link
And I liked Wilson and Jones a ton! Wanted Jones in the 2nd round that year, and Linval in the 3rd...
Jones
Matt M. : 5/22/2015 8:27 pm : link
It hought he was going to be a real star. I was surprised he was around in the 3rd round when we selected.
Jones

Wilson proved he was a bad pick before he got injured, sorry to say. He ran to upright and danced around in the whole too much. If he wasn't hurt in 2013-14, he would have been hurt at some point.

Oh, and he's a fumbler.
Wilson

I always wished we could've seen more of George Adams
...
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/22/2015 10:56 pm : link
George Adams was such a stud in '85. I thought he would be a very good player for a long time.

I still remember him beating the Dallas blitz for a 70-yard TD on MNF.
Phil Simms once said
GeorgeAdams33 : 5/22/2015 11:13 pm : link
that Adams was the best athlete he'd ever played alongside of.
I have a game from 85' on vhs
GeorgeAdams33 : 5/22/2015 11:16 pm : link
John Madden cannot stop raving about how much he likes the combination of Adams & Carthon. The two big backs were so impressive to him.
Not sure exactly why ....
short lease : 5/23/2015 6:33 am : link
But, I vote Chad Jones. 6'2"/221 lbs (according to his wikipedia page).

IDK - seems like a lot of potential (on paper anyway).

He reminded me (on paper) of I guy that the 49er's drafted in the mid-80's. Can't think of his name exactly (did multiple Google searches). I think his last name was Fullerton(?). Then he got injured ... and his career was over very early on into his 1st contract.

At the time he was referred to as "the Beast" .... (out here anyway) practically the same measurables. But, in the mid-80's He was a freak (at one of the safety position).

Anyway .... maybe I am "romanticizing" what "coulda/ shoulda/woulda" been But, I really was excited when they drafted Chad Jones.
based on potential

CJ.

Wilson had already shown the potential tank wasn't all that great. I know a lot of folks claim he'd have been kick ass, but realistically, he never really showed it. IMO, his ceiling was part time RB/KR.

We never got to see what CJ might have been.
David Wilson in this offense could have been something special.

But man, thank God that both have their quality of life intact.

And by the way I hope KP makes his comeback. I thought NYG was set for 15 years with him.
Wilson as a RB
GeorgeAdams33 : 5/23/2015 5:16 pm : link
Our offensive line has been really bad the last several years. It's hard to judge a slashing type RB when the designed hole is never there. He was drafted for his speed & strength, not his ability to improvise. This is why Bradshaw is still the only effective back we've had in this decade. Even in 2011 we were not very good at blocking for the run but we were very solid in pass protection. I would have loved to have seen Wilson run in this offense with the line playing up to par and opening lanes to get him through to the next level and into the secondary.
