Anxious for the "Slade Era" to Begin

Hopefully he'll be joined someday soon by Lindgren, Refsnyder, Bird, Judge, Severino, Mateo and Sanchez.
7-0 Texas already

Great job Pineda

Should be a billboard because it's the most ridiculous thing I ever seen
since you need 5 starters
RasputinPrime : 5/22/2015 10:23 pm : link
i'll take both Pineda and Harvey. I'm greedy like that.
At least the offense got something going today
AJ23 : 5/22/2015 10:39 pm : link
But God, I don't know if I can stand watching Stephen Drew play one more game.

What's funny is both papers said how the mets were going to run this city for the next five years and now two months later they are saying Pineda is better then Harvey... Laughable!!!!!!!

Yea 9 runs which means they shot their load for the rest of the series and will score 2 runs today and lose again. They will be under .500 by this time next week. Which is disgraceful being that this team was 9 games over just 11 days ago.
Pineda
RetroJint : 5/23/2015 7:31 am : link
Is better than he has looked in his last 2 starts but he does not crack the Mets Big 3. The 16 Ks remain sweet, however. Yanks need a win today. Had the much praised bullpen and the guy expertly managing it held Texas to 1 run, the Yanks would have won.

More on Joe's choice last night to pull Didi, who's hitting .364 over last 7 days, instead of Drew, who's .238 over last 7 & made final out
There are things I like about Joe as a manager...
Dunedin81 : 5/23/2015 9:39 am : link
many of them. But his bizarre unwillingness to use kids unless absolutely necessary is really unfortunate. Drew is fucking terrible. Drew should not be in the lineup regularly.
10 runs in the third inning for Texas today

10-0. You can't make this shit up. It was nice while it lasted.

pissed away a great start in the matter of 10 days. Thankfully the division isn't great
you look at how Heathcott has played so far
RasputinPrime : 5/23/2015 3:45 pm : link
and you see someone who is playing at 200%. We need more of that on this team.

DFA Drew and give a kid a shot.

Cashman stocked this team with useless veterans and overrated

relievers, I hope he's not forcing Girardi to trot them out everyday.

It's time to bring up some of the youngsters, otherwise the die-hard fans will lose interest. I am not expecting much this year anyway, let's see what the young kids can do.
Kay brought up a good point about the 2005 season
RasputinPrime : 5/23/2015 4:07 pm : link
where calling up Wang and Cano mid-season turned everything around. Not sure that we can expect anyone they call up to be as good as either of them but I'd rather they try. Gregorius and Drew are beyond awful and watching Beltran slog through the RF bog is painful.

Buster Olney did a segment last week, when the Marlins shit stain GM hired himself as manager, and basically said that the front offices around baseball are now telling the managers more and more who to play, and where to play them. He said it's something that managers would never have allowed before, but times have changed and teams are managing games with their computers and many mangers have little say in who plays and where.

Combine that with the comments made by Cashman during the off season and it's becoming clearer that Girardi is allowing Cashman to make the calls. And if that's the case, it's freaking absolutely pathetic.
At least they called up Lindgren
illmatic : 5/23/2015 7:37 pm : link
Now just get Refsnyder up there, keep Slade around and we'll have something going with the young guys. They can't be any worse than what we've seen so far.

I agree with you. Joe does a great job in managing the bullpen. However the unwillingness in using youth boggles my mind. I don't understand the love for Drew. It would make much better sense if Drew was on in his first year of a 6 year 100 million dollar contract. The guy is on a 1 year 5 million contract. Last year they got rid of Roberts mid way thru the season. Maybe we have to wait until July for him to be DFA. Also the fact that Refsnyder who was aaa player of the week has not been brought up. The Marlins released Saltalamacia and the owe him 11 million on his contract. The Rays ate 7 million and released Balfour. Yet the Yanks that print money can't eat 5 million.

There is no reason
MookGiants : 5/23/2015 10:25 pm : link
to keep Drew on the roster. Absolutely none.
Pirela would be a shitty shortstop...
Dunedin81 : 5/23/2015 10:31 pm : link
but he could back it up in a pinch. DFA Drew. Nobody will claim him. Send him to AAA.

It's not his option. Joe is here because he does what he is told. If you paid attention to Cashman's interview last month, Cashman gives Gerardi the players and tells him what their role is. So if Drew is playing, it's because the GM has ordained him for that role.
I don't want a team that panicks
RasputinPrime : 5/23/2015 11:21 pm : link
but we aren't going to get enough from Gregorius or Drew to be competitive. If that is the case, we might as well see what else we have.

Dumping Drew is not a panic move. I'm not even sure dumping Didi is one, though he was a longer term investment. Drew is here on a one year and he was a low risk gamble from the outset. The biggest risk in that gamble was - and is - that the Yankees would wait too long to cut bait.
If they willingly leave Drew on this roster for
illmatic : 5/24/2015 10:35 am : link
an extended period of time just because of the stupid contract that they signed him to, you can pin this season on Cashman and the ownership. We shouldn't have to complain about Girardi much at all. We know who really screwed this season up.

And 10 million total in one year to Drew and Capuano yet they can't be bothered to pony up the extra money to get Moncada signed? I'm not one to keep throwing a move (or lack of a move) in the front office's face but Yankee fans deserve to be angry about that for a long, long time. Such a god awful sequence of decisions.

Your right . Joe has to play the players Cashman gives him. However, Joe could give Drew less playing time. I have to believe Joe sets the lineup and not Cashman.
