spike : 5/23/2015 2:51 pm
The Mets are looking to bounce back with Harvey on the mound, against AJ Burnett (3-1, 1.38) at 4pm

Granderson
Lagares
Duda
Murphy
FLores
Campbell
Ceciliani
Plawecki
Harvey

Harrison
Walker
McCrutchen
Marte
Kang
Alvarez
Polanco
Cervelli
Burnett

This appears to be the first time Flores is batting 5th (no Cuddyer today), hopefully the move will pay off with some high scoring to back Harvey (for once).

DW suffers setback
spike : 5/23/2015 2:54 pm : link
"

Mets third baseman David Wright suffered another setback in his return from injury. Wright's back stiffened up on him after he took batting practice Friday and will be shut down for a week.

Wright originally went on the disabled list in mid-April with a hamstring injury. He then developed lower back pain in early May after he recovered from his hamstring injury. He began baseball activities earlier this week and was expected back before the end of May prior to his latest setback.

Wow- that's crazy news.

Can we stop the nonsense and put Flores at 3rd and make a trade for a SS now?
Bring up Reynolds

and play him every day at either SS, 2B, or 3B.

When is Herrera due to come back?
I believe Flores has batted 5th a few times already this season

DW staying healthy for a entire season at this point. He is not aging well as a ball player.

Not all all and he has five more seasons with the Mets. Perhaps they should have renewed Reyes instead of Wright!

I thought it was his chronic douchebaggery

that caused his retirement. Easily one of the most vile ex-players i've read about.

just poking in to say enjoy a game you aren't likely to lose 15-2.
Wright's contract insured?
Giants2012 : 5/23/2015 3:55 pm : link
According to this older link, it is

David Wright's contract is protected by outside insurance, but not Johan Santana's contract.

Johan Santana is tossing a baseball on flat ground in Port St. Lucie, Fla., four times a week, with an eye toward stepping on a mound for the first time about May 1.

I wonder if they keep re-sign Murphy and move him to 3rd or move Flores over?
Murphy anywhere
Giants2012 : 5/23/2015 4:10 pm : link
is a mistake for the future of this team IMO.

Send a stud pitcher to the Cubs for a stud SS. That's one young infield if the Mets can get a Diaz for SS with Hererra at 2nd and Flores at 3rd.

Wishful thinking though. SA won't move
Starling Castro or Baez

You can't be serious.
Clevland has a ss prospect by the name of Francisco Lindor
steve in ky : 5/23/2015 4:18 pm : link
that is supposed to be an elite defensive ss. If they were to trade for a ss I would rather they go after someone like that to play behind this young pitching staff.
Aggressive Aggressive Aggressive
PhiPsi125 : 5/23/2015 4:18 pm : link
Every other team that opposes the mets seem to have success with their aggressiveness. Too bad our manager is anti-aggressive. So sick of watching other teams capitalize off the basics of baseball.

The Achilles heel of the young pitching staff so far is their inability to do a good job of hold runners on first.

That will come with time.
and that is why McCutcheon's pay stub

first pitch swing
stealing bases
swinging on 2-0

These are the tactics teams use against the Mets as they beat us up, routinely.

The Mets...do not.

That, and the Mets seem to be the Kings of hitting balls just shy of being a HR...lol.
Well it's good to know that the FO

This Wright news is unbelievable
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2015 4:37 pm : link
This after saying he was going to start playing in games Monday. Fuck. We are never going to have a full lineup this year. With Wright out indefinitely, I actually would consider moving Flores to third for the rest of the season and calling up Reynolds(who hasn't been great lately). We can't have Cambell in the lineup unless its temporary and this no longer looks temporary. Campbell is awful.

Also, if this is going to be an ongoing thing for Wright our best hope is that he retires. This is simply awful.
Mets aren't scoring 3 runs today
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2015 4:40 pm : link

And the 6 man rotation is horse shit
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2015 4:42 pm : link
The number one reason everyone thinks its a good idea is a joke. This WILL NOT save anyone innings. You have to go through the rotation 5-6 times in order to save each starter one mere start. Thats over a month.

This is merely a temporary solution so the Mets can make the fans happy and buy the front office some time to pull off a trade. I highly doubt it saves anyone any innings at all.
I think the 6 man rotation
Headhunter : 5/23/2015 4:45 pm : link
is a tactic to buy time to trade a pitcher sooner rather than later. Maybe 1 go around for the 6 man rotation until they find a buyer for Niese Colon or Gee
nothing more entertaining than
Headhunter : 5/23/2015 4:47 pm : link
watching Granderson on his way to a Golden Sombrero. At least he will still be smiling
This year's Mets team is the worst hitting team I have ever seen!

Sure thats exactly what it is, and it might even go on for weeks. My point is everyone thinks its saving Harvey, deGrom, ect innings and its not. It would over the course of a whole season but not for a few weeks.
You dont remember the
Headhunter : 5/23/2015 4:51 pm : link
days when Lee Mazzilli was batting clean up. This is Muderer's Row compared to those teams
And lets face it
ZGiants98 : 5/23/2015 4:52 pm : link
the 6 man rotation makes us worst. One less man in the pen. Three backend starters going instead of two. Harvey and others admitted they get thrown off with more rest. Just a bad move all around. Let's hope Sandy finds a taker quick.
IF SA is as savy as I make him out to be
Headhunter : 5/23/2015 4:54 pm : link
he can sense the malaise that is about to set in and he will do something to shake things up. I wouldn't be stunned to see Collins let go or a roster changing trade involving names I'd hate to see go. The worst thing is letting a sense of same old same old set in with the fan base

I think he will too but not any time soon. I think they'll see what they have in Reynolds and possibly Herrera if he comes back, continue to evaluate Wright, and then pounce on something closer to the deadline. Its too early for teams to be selling off big players yet anyway.
I think Collins gone and a new coaching staff will go
PhiPsi125 : 5/23/2015 5:06 pm : link
a long way in improving things. But if these moronic offensive philosophies are coming from the FO, no amount of good young pitching is going to save this team.

Collins ever take out a starter when the game was still in hand. The whole world saw he didn't have it today. Ive never seen a manager let their starters get their brains beat in more than Collins does.
I don't see a massive shakeup yet
Eric on Li : 5/23/2015 5:50 pm : link
but I do think there will be a longer term plan put in place given the news about wright. I think the most sensible 3b replacement is Murphy. It's probably his least damaging position and you're not damaging any future asset with him. If he does well and Wright gets healthy you either move him back to 2nd, deal him, or put him on the bench as an excellent insurance policy.

In the MI I would call up Reynolds despite his cold streak. I'd probably just put Flores at 2nd and give him the chance to win a position that he's better suited to long term. That gives them a 4-6 week look at Reynolds at SS to see if they need to dip into the trade market for a Rollins type (or better?) for the stretch drive. Niese and Gee would still be gone as soon as a good offer hits the table for a prospect or solid bench piece.
So it sounds like it's time to start planning on life without

the Cubs were treading water and the Mets jump started their season. The Pirateswere treading water and it looks like the Mets woke them up. After tomorrow they play The Phils and Marlins at home. They miss Hamel if they manage to screw this home stand up, the season goes straight into the dumpster.

Phil in Joisey : 5/23/2015 8:48 pm : link
He is a minor league player at best. He must be replaced a/s/a/p.......like tonight.
As for David Wright. Spinal stenosis is truly bad news. At his age however an epidural should get him back relatively soon for the rest of this year. But for the long run his career will be shortened and he'll be untradeable. A real shame.
