Need Feedback on BBI Ad Issue with iPhone/Droid users

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/23/2015 6:10 pm
The first fix seemed to help some, but not all.

The second fix seemed to make things worse.

We went back to the first fix and are looking for more feedback.

Could be we are dealing one problematic ad too so if you notice an issue only with one ad showing, please let me know (1) is it the top 300x250 ad or bottom, and (2) what ad? (URL for the ad would help)

Thanks!

Try testing the site on www.mobiletest.me. It allows you to test the site on most mobile devices and tablets and you can setup a free account. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

On the phones on that site, it looks like the original post only has a few words per line, but the rest of the posts are OK.

However, I don't see that issue on the Droid my wife has and I think other phone users aren't seen that issue anymore.

After I signed up for an account and began testing, now it looks normal. So far so good. All the various devices seem to be here (and multiple versions). Thanks!

Was getting two massive ads blocking the OP yesterday, making threads unreadable. Now I'm just seeing the smaller ads at the bottom of the thread.

I've seen that spinning ad a lot recently and it's annoying, but I haven't seen the pop-up at all. Are you saying there is a pop-up associated with it on your device? What device are you using? I'll test it on my end using that site branch sent me.
the problem is back this morning on droid

and this post isn't likely to help because it appears to be happening randomly and intermittently. Happens on lots of different ads but sometimes the same ads load in the right hand margin unobtrusively as they used to.

Just have an Acer smart phone and at times there's an ad atop of the page and it causes the page to get really out of whack. It causes each line to be separate from each other. For example:

It
looks
like
this.
Including
the
subject
line.

It doesn't always do it, so I assumed it was a specific ad.

I am having these same issues.

The newest update on my Samsung Galaxy S4, the site is and has been fine on my phone Eric, I get two ads either neatly on the right side, barely changing the look of the page, both in portrait and landscape.

I also checked it on wi-fi and 4g, not much of a difference either way.

Thanks. So you're saying you are not having an issue? (That helps to know too).
Yes

No problems at all

I go to landscape, ads pushed to right and is manageable.
the problem with going landscape to fix formatting
aquidneck : 5/25/2015 5:29 pm : link
Is that the size of the type can't be adjusted. Not good for the nearsighted if you don't have glasses nearby.

I have been having the same problem as the screen shot on my Samsung Note 4 for a couple of weeks.

But I am now more productive at work......

the website emulator allows me to use Note 3 (not 4). In landscape mode, it seems to work. Is it doing it for your in landscape?
Eric
larryflower37 : 5/25/2015 6:55 pm : link
It does work in landscape mode.
Thank you!
I have the iPhone 4S

I have iPhone 6 and things have been working

Here's what I see in landscape mode:

yeah, back this am on droid
aquidneck : 5/26/2015 7:29 am : link
A little different than before. This time OP and first responses only are obscured and reformatted by ad. Posts appearing after the ad ends are formatted correctly (although type size still not adjustable by touchscreen).
FYI, on a laptop with IE9

On all threads, all posts after the thread starter are not indented (ie, they are up against the left edge of the screen as opposed to being indented like the thread starter).

the positive reports are countered by the negative ones. Driving me crazy. We're going to continue to tinker with some things.

Having issues with my work PC today - Windows 7, Chrome Browser. Been having issues with my Droid for a week or two (it was fine for one or two days).

iPad's been fine.
If you see weird spacing issues, reload/refresh your browser
Gary from The East End : Admin : 5/26/2015 10:34 am : link
I made some changes to big-blue.css and you may not have the latest version
Gary, you've put up test sites before I think
SwirlingEddie : 5/26/2015 10:53 am : link
Is it possible to try out these changes on a test server before implementing them on the live site?
SwirlingEddie
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/26/2015 11:39 am : link
Gary and I only use a fraction of the devices out there...and the emulators don't always seem to reflect what you guys are saying.
Normally I would try oout any major changes on the dev site
Gary from The East End : Admin : 5/26/2015 11:43 am : link
But I thought I could make a couple small tweaks to the live site because some people were having serious issues. It's not best practice, but sometimes you just want to fix stuff ASAP if you can.

Dodge : 5/26/2015 11:44 am : link
There is a reason people don't use custom built forum software.
Thanks for your input, Dodge

It's much appreciated

running IE8 (yeah, I know) there is no spacing (blank lines) between posts in a thread.

I don't expect you to be coding to optimize outdated browsers, but I do want to give any feedback that may be helpful in your efforts. Good luck guys.
I just started having the issue today on my mobile

Looks identical to the screengrabs Jon and kelsto posted. I am using a Moto Turbo on Verizon with chrome as my browser. Its android version 4.4.4.
