So we and the Niners start out 10-0, we get our butts handed to us at Philly the next week, Hoss takes over for injured Simms, we kinda "limp" home and finish 13-3, Hoss and company humiliate the Bears(44-3?), 15-13 win in NFC title game on Bahr FG at the end, preceeded by Montana hit, Carthon easy TD drop, Reasons fake punt huge gain, Erik Howard hit in Craig, LT recovery of that fumble with around 2 1/2 to play, SB with 2 man defensive front, Hoss holding onto ball after sack for safety by Bruce Smith, OJ undercut, Ingram incredible 3-13(?) first down play, 41 minutes of ball control, Norwood wide right..

Yes, that was quite the year..

way that 1990 team was the best in the NFL, but they were exceptionally well coached and they had great chemistry.

I have to admit that I thought all was lost at two points: (1) right before Erik Howard forced the Craig fumble, and (2) after Hostetler got sacked in the end zone in the Super Bowl.
I remember being furious

When they failed to score a td after the reasons fake punt. Another FG...

Man....the feeling I had when Howard forced the fumble... I had long stated that I wanted the Giants to serve the niners a taste of their own medicine-- a heart breaking last second defeat.... And after the fumble it was on a silver platter for NYG... There have been more than a few special moments but this was and is my favorite NYG moment ever. Beating the niners in their house... Gregory Hines high giving another NYG fan in the stands... Love it.

when you think of it, those two NFC Championship defeats for the 49ers have to be top 5 in the worst losses that franchise has ever suffered.

Easily. Probably top 3 along with the super bowl loss to the Ravens...

Haha. First thing I thought.

And we have two of the greatest losses for the Pats too.

I couldn't find pics but it's on the game tape. Madden or Summerall even points him out. It actually appears that he's sitting out in the upper tier and he's seen high fiving another NYG fan next to him. I think it's after one of their FG conversions if memory serves. Probably 2nd half..

But there's a hole in Seifert's heart that won't heal. He was the coach when the 49ers fumbled away the January 1991 NFC Championship game and their ticket to a third straight Super Bowl. The 15-13 loss to the New York Giants, as devastating a loss as any in team history, ranks No. 7 in our countdown of the 49ers' most unforgettable moments at Candlestick Park.

"It haunts me to this day," Seifert said recently. "I don't know that ownership has ever forgiven me for losing that game."

"It drained us of everything," said Carmen Policy, the former team president. "We lost the game. We lost our quarterback. We knew if we got to the Super Bowl, we were going to win it. The gloom was unbelievable. I don't recall ever seeing the team or the organization as down as we all were that day."

The Giants ripped the Niners hearts from their chests and ate them before their eyes. The best part was how completely silent Candlestick fell as soon as that kick when through the uprights.

I was at the Championship game at candlestick and it was the best game I have ever seen. There was so much talent on the field that day and the hitting was incredible. The game took place as the Persian Gulf War began and most fans didn't travel to the game. I went with Big Blue Travel with Mike and the Mad Dog. Once Bahr hit the game winning field goal you could hear a pin drop in the stadium. It was so wonderful. Leaving the stadium the vendors outside were selling 3peat t-shirts for a buck.
