CAROLINA
Person Charlotte Observer: Who won NFC South's offseason? Who cares, says Panthers' Thomas Davis. Team-by-team analysis.
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article21723327.html
we've added G Geoff Schwartz, T Ereck Flowers, C Brett Jones, 3rd down RB Shane Vereen (huge achilles heel), WR Victor Cruz, special teams ace WR Dwayne Harris (huge achilles heel), DE George Selvie, DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DT Sen'rick Ellis, MLB Jon Beason, OLB J.T. Thomas, OLB Jonathan Casillas, CB Trumaine McBride, S Cooper Taylor, S Landon Collins and CB/S Josh Gordy.
we've subtracted S Antrel Rolle (who stunk last year), S Quintin Demps (who stinks every year) and S Stevie Brown (who stunk last year), OLB Jacquian Williams (stinks), OLB Spencer Paysinger (stinks), C J.D. Walton (who stinks and we chose not to retain the services of), DE Mathias Kiwanuka (who we chose not to retain the services of), DT Mike Patterson (who we chose not to retain the services of) and LT Will Beatty (for a while). (I'm not going to count Brewer and Thurmond who did not factor into the season.)
Just on paper, we've added 16 middling-to-quality players (plus several late rounders and UDFA's who could surprise) and subtracted 8 middling-to-lousy ones.
For me, that is a sizable talent infusion. And if we find a diamond in the rough UDFA, even moreso. Plus the team is in position to realize improvement from several young players cutting their teeth (Pugh, Moore, Donnell, Kennard, Bromley, A.Williams) plus Eli in year 2 of a WCO. We've upgraded.
I haven't understood that either...
That's just Jordan being his skeptical self -- no biggie.
