Here we go, boys. Back to the garden for a best of three. The 5-1 beat down was beautiful to watch but it's time to turn the page and take another fucking step towards finishing the job we didn't last year.

No let downs today...put more doubt in tampa's head and grab the series by the throat

Lets fucking go, boys. Fear the fucking Beard,

LETS GO RANGERS

I don't know the statistics, but in a 2-2-1-1-1 series format, tied at 2-2, game 5 is almost certainly the most critical game, statistically.

Continue to improve our defensive reads and coverage as we familiarize ourselves with what they do as a team. This series has a steep learning curve for the Rangers. Not having seen them for five months caused a lot of problems for us. We made strides in game 4 in limiting their quality chances. We have a very smart club with a great work ethic and admirable resiliency in the face of adversity. We elevated our physical presence, denied them time and space and clogged up their skating lanes. In the end our battle level and experience will carry the day.
Let's do this!

Looked it up. Winner of game 5 in a NHL series tied 2-2 went on to win the series .781 percent of the time in NHL history (275 teams went on to win the series versus 77 teams that lost). That's damn close to 80% of the time.

Tonight's game is HUGE! C'mon baby,

Back at the Garden, we have to put them on the ropes here.

We've put 10 past Bishop in the last 2 games now. This is a guy who has not been here before and might start to doubt himself a bit if we can get on him early again.

Hopefully the Rangers can turn on the jets here at the right time and find a way to make Game 6 an elimination game for TB.
Will be in the building tonight , fired up for this one!!

Need to forget game 5 as quickly as we forgot game 4, TB will be coming in hot, a couple early goals would set the tone

Played a tighter defensive game and still put 5 past bishop. Tampa is done
Good news, just won my NHL 15 game.

So far in the playoffs when I've won, they've won. When I've lost, they've lost. Keep the trend going!

I get the whole trying to jinx part, but I don't know how anyone can say this with a straight face. Clearly not someone paying attention to this Rangers group over the past decade - when has anything ever been easy for these guys?

Series is still a pick 'em. Two very talented, well coached teams -- adjustments and counter-adjustments, just like any other hard fought series. Hopefully we get a little puck luck and end up on top tonight, but you know they'll respond with their best effort. That's what good teams like them have done time and again this postseason after tough losses (game 2 Detroit, game 6 Detroit, game 5 Montreal and game 6 Montreal)

Take it to them early and get in Bishop's head. Can't afford to let that guy regain his confidence - though look at the tape of the Rangers 4th goal the other night... he didn't even move from his post well after Brassard had fed MSL. Maybe he was totally screened ? But it was an odd complete lack of awareness -- bury this fuck tonight.
Torts just said Tampa was the much better team Friday
MetsAreBack : 5/24/2015 11:59 am : link
but Bishop killed them.

Some of that may be true but people have an odd definition of "much better"

I don't really give a shit what Cooper or Torts think - we're way too thirsty for a Cup at this point to care even a little about style points -- bottom line game 4 was probably a mirror image of game 2 from a sense of team carrying play lost.... but this series tied 2-2 right now is probably exactly where this team should be.

Not too worried about who carried play Friday - they dominated about 11 minutes Friday, in part due to some NYR penalties... but the other 49 minutes I thought we played an excellent Road game

Tonight is huge - the way they carried play in both their home games, they seem to get the matchups they want down there... not feeling great about winning there again. Have to have this one tonight. As baadbill said, 80% of the time the winner tonight takes the Series.
Absolutely not trying to jinx
KWhite2250 : 5/24/2015 12:13 pm : link
And I can say it with a straight face because the coach saw they needed to play a tighter d game and they did it and won 5-1! Not 2-1 not 1-0. I dont think Bishop is all that good. And as someone who never second guesses your goalies performance, he isnt giving up more than 2 in a game from now on as long as the Rangers stay out of the up and down wide open games.
Well personally i came out of game 1 feeling better
MetsAreBack : 5/24/2015 12:26 pm : link
than I did out of Friday. If our stars - Nash, I guess MSL, McD... can continue to play like that, we've got a chance, but they did outchance us the other night, and this is still playoff hockey between two excellent teams in a best of 3.

They've won 3 times in the Garden this year so this isn't the Caps coming in here with a long history of losing - need to bring our "A" game tonight.

Any fan comfortable in a particular outcome right now is full of it. Momentum is as good as your last shift.
Tampa had tons of scoring chances, but either fucked up or Henrik

A dumb time to ask this, but who should we be rooting for in the other series? I thought we would have a better chance against Chicago, but their defense men handle the puck well in their own zone, which would negate our forechecking. I find myself rooting for Chicago anyway, but winning the cup ain't gonna be a walk in the park.
Chicago is a better matchup for the Rangers.
arcarsenal : 5/24/2015 1:04 pm : link
Quenneville is only rolling 4 d-men because he doesn't trust Timmonen and Cumiskey (Timmonen is especially awful, the guy is just old and done)

They're also a smaller team. Toews and Kane are elite forwards and will cause problems for anyone but it's not like there's any real dropoff between those two and Getzlaf/Perry.

Anaheim is a bigger, more physical team with a deeper, more balanced defense corps. I think they would give the Rangers a really hard time.

I just don't think Chicago can make it through the SCF on the winning side with their blue line as thin as it is. Keith, Hjalmarsson and Seabrook are all excellent players but they're just logging so many minutes and they're in a really physical series with ANA right now and I just think it's going to start to show on the ice. Hopefully not until they win the series, though.

Really hoping the Hawks pull past.

Obviously it means nothing if the Rangers can't beat Tampa two more times but we're fans, not players.. doesn't really matter if we look ahead.
I am nervous about playing the likes of Toews, Kane, Hossa and Saad
Anakim : 5/24/2015 1:08 pm : link
But I would love it if the Rangers skullfucked Brad Richards and showed Chicago they fucked up by not locking Kevin Hayes up.
Tampa was much better the first 50 minutes.
BrettNYG10 : 5/24/2015 1:09 pm : link
Rangers probably slightly outplayed them the first 10-15 minutes, but the second was an embarrassing effort by the team. Lundqvist and Bishop were the difference makers.
had no issues with how we played 1st and 3rd periods
MetsAreBack : 5/24/2015 1:32 pm : link
Friday. good road periods and well played considering scoreboard and crowd / momentum
and all that

first 12 minutes of period 2 was certainly rough - can't have that happen again but it might - give the opponent credit, they are excellent.

Hank is going to have to steal us one of these final 3 games to advance
Some rumors about a Bishop injury
Kyle in NY : 5/24/2015 1:41 pm : link
Would make sense considering the effort we saw on the MSL goal. Not looking for style points at this juncture anyway. I'll take it however we can get it.

Last game was just about the best case scenario. Not only winning but doing it with a bunch of slumping players contributing. If Nash gets hot, we're in fantastic shape.

I tend to agree. Anaheim scared me. We get stuck in our own end a lot against bigger teams. Although Chicago has Stanley Cup experience out the ass.
my opinion of Anaheim is probably jaded
MetsAreBack : 5/24/2015 1:54 pm : link
from seeing the Metro division playoff teams all handle them fairly easily

they are a worthy Final opponent and it's never easy this time of year regardless - but it doesn't get easier than the road they've had to get here

they can't hold last year's Kings jock. we get by Tampa and we're in great shape.

Lightning are our biggest test of this run - been saying that since march. caps series never should have been that close - over and done with hopefully that experience made us a better team but it never should have gotten to that.

I think the score of game 4 was misleading
Jay in Toronto : 5/24/2015 3:19 pm : link
There were some good trends - May improved PP, Nash going to the net as opposed to dead on shots from the side, MS finally finishing a set up.

If that continues that will help, but I still think the series is in the D's hands - if they have reversed their inconsistent play then I like our chances.

"Lightning are our biggest test of this run - been saying that since march. caps series never should have been that close - over and done with hopefully that experience made us a better team but it never should have gotten to that."

Seems to me in the SC Playoffs so far, of course it's playoff hockey, but the Rangers have not been playing their game as well as they did during the season and/or other teams have upped their games, so Penguins, Caps, now Lightning...may it never should have gotten to that, but that's the way we've been playing. So the differentials we had vs. Anaheim during the season means squat, if we get that far. (If we do, it's Kings' physical game redux.)

Hard to get a read on Game 4, with some here saying Lightning outplayed Blueshirts for 50 minutes; that doesn't sound so pretty.

Here's hoping they put together a solid 60, and another, and then a bunch more.

Beard the faith. LGR

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper believes that forward Ryan Callahan will score in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final on Sunday.

''Tonight's probably the night he's going to score,'' said Cooper. It's no secret that Callahan hasn't been productive this postseason. The 30-year-old has no points in his last nine games and he has just three assists in 16 postseason games in 2015.
I believe in Lundqvist. He's back in the groove.
