I really thought we were going to grab him in the second round. When I discovered we traded up, I figured it was to make sure we got O-Diggy-Zoowah. Then we grabbed Collins - a great move by the F.O. At that point, I gave up on the hope that we'd have a shot at O-Diggy. But as the third round started and he was still on the board, I started to get my hopes up. When the Rams passed on him...and then the Falcons, my blood pressure was skyrocketing and I was screaming at Reese and TC to take O-Diggy as if they could hear me. Then it happened. And I said to myself, "we've had a great draft no matter what we get from here".

Yeah..his health was a concern. But I think the fact that he didn't fit a 3-4 scheme took a lot of teams out of play. He is made for a 4-3 or he'd have been gone before the 3rd.

when they traded up I thought it was for him. I understood the Collins pick but I wanted Odi bad and I was upset they passed on him. To get this guy in the 3rd round just made the draft for me. Three years from now we are going to look back and wonder how the hell we got this guy in the 3rd round.

Bill, I'd say at worst he'll be a candidate to start in year 2; and I'm not saying he's a Reggie White or anything close. It's just that the caliber of talent ahead of him on the depth chart is not that strong, imo.

He'll start because he will be - barring injury - and superb player. I think you'll see a complete guy who plays the run and gets after the passer. I'm not thinking the one dimensional Osi but more like Tuck.

He doesn't dip and bend going around tackles like the great pass rushers do. He's more upright. There's a scouting report somewhere that shows this in great depth.
Playing in a 3-4 at UCLA represented different responsibilities. He's got the physical tools to play 4-3 DE, but there is a learning curve ahead and we'll need to see how his instincts develop now that he's the anchor and the pass rusher on the edge.
Eric, there is a break down of his pass rush technique floating around. Often times he doesn't bend and dip while fighting a tackle in order to get around him. But there is footage that shows he can and has done it. He just doesn't utilize it all the time.
I'll retract then, that would make Owa leaner and a bit larger in terms of thickness than Tuck was around the time he was drafted. Tuck was a gym junkie and grew to 280 very quickly, however.
I would consider flexibility a physical gift rather than an instinct and Odi hasn't shown that going around the corner he can get closer to 45 degrees than 90 degrees off the ground like many of the elite edge rushers do. Doesn't mean he can't be very good as I don't think Tuck had that ability to bend either, but I think that (and his run play ability) is why he's projected at the LE position rather than the RE despite not having prototypical size for the former.
Positive: Explosive defensive end a prospect with a complete game. Fires off the snap, keeps his feet moving and shows the ability to knock bigger tackles off the line. Fast moving in every direction, immediately alters his angle of attack and pursues laterally with speed. Forceful up the field, quick to close and causes an impact. Does a terrific job anticipating the snap off the ball and beating blockers off the line. Plays with excellent pad level, quickly gets his hands up and plays with suddenness. Instinctive, does not bite on ball fakes and quickly locates the runner. Plays with outstanding balance, body control and stays within his pass rush angle. Wedges between double-team blocks and consistently making plays behind the line of scrimmage. Solid run defender who stays with his assignments.
Negative: Lacks bulk and struggles going up against larger offensive tackles. Can be engulfed at the line of scrimmage. Injury from 2013 may raise some red flags.
Analysis: Odighizuwa was an up-and-coming prospect in 2012 before sitting on the sidelines the following season with his injury. He rebounded well last season then performed brilliantly at the Senior Bowl and Combine. He'll be under-drafted, but if he stays healthy I fully expect Odighizuwa to quickly break into a starting line up as a rookie and have an immediate impact on a four-man line.
His shoulders are always parallel to the ground, you never see him flex or dip his shoulder. I love the pick but wonder how successful he'll be turning the corner if he can't improve his flexibility.
I'm not sure Strahan, Tuck, or JPP are those type of players either...if by that you mean an explosive outside pass rusher who beats his man to the corner.
I wouldn't call JPP a consistent outside pass rushing threat. It's not like he usually is beating guys off the snap and blowing by them. He's done it, but like Strahan and Tuck, I think his inside and power game is sometimes even more effective.

the motor and attitude might be his two best qualities - often what separates solid from special players.
