shows how desperate we all feel when we're hoping for a 7th rounder to help the team on the OL.
Not for nothing but I remember reading that around 50% of the league starting OL are either late round or UDFA. And the elite offensive teams had around only one or two first round picks on their lines. Coaching matters a ton at non-skill positions whether people want to believe it or not. Some teams can pull guys off the street and get them coached up to some degree.
and become valuable starters (Seuie for example). My comment was really about the loss of Beatty, and a situation where we seemed to finally have realistic chance to have a very good line, only to now have to scramble like heck to make it work.
....all of the lineman that were drafted this and last year out of FSU. It is a game against Clemson from 2013.
Bobby Hart is the worst of the bunch. He should NEVER play tackle in this league. He is a guard, at best.
Tre' Jackson, Matias and Stork are NFL caliber players. Why we took Richburg when Stork was available is beyond me. Stork was 6'4", 315 lbs. coming out who centered and anchored a National Championship line. Richburg was 6'3", 298 lbs. and played for Colorado State.
Belichick gets Stork in the fourth and we got Richburg in the second. Another classic overreach by Reese.

During the draft, Richburg was seen as a very good pick up by the Giants. I don't recall even one person saying that he was a "reach" as a second round pick.
in that he seemed to think that guard was equally if not more demanding than tackle. Talked about things happening quicker, and having reduced opportunity to recover from mistakes.
by drafting him in the second and then switched his freaking position instead of playing him at center. That was a blunder and a half, don't care what FA we signed.
got size and strength, but he's a seventh round pick. Everybody passed on him, including the Giants, many times. Right now, he's another attempt by Reese and company to find a hidden OL gem. Brewer, Petrus, Mosley, and Herman haven't worked out, but eventually Reese may hit on one of these experiments. That one could be Hart. Or not. What we want from Hart and Jones right now is to be good enough to replace one or more of Mosley, Herman, or Reynolds. OL is just one of many positions where our depth consists of JAGs.

Rich Seubert was an udrafted free agent, so you sometimes do get lucky.
and preseason should be very exciting. With so much unproven depth at so many positions, there is a real opportunity for some lesser known players to step up and seize a roster spot.
Criticism of Reese for taking Richburg is silly as others have noted.

Not a blunder. Giants had no one else to play G. They put their best 5 out there. The blunder is in the misses I've the years and Reese's belief he can build an OL w later picks and FA. Beatty going down highlights how badly the FO Has been when it comes to the OL. They have now spent 2 firsts and a 2nd in the last 3 years along w the Schwartz pick up and still have one of the worst OLs in terms of overall talent and depth in the NFL.
We Will know more after training camp but the OL is a total question mark. It may be better than most think ot it could be bottom of the barrel again If they can improve to mediocre with their run blocking thatau be the best thing as it would change the whol dynamic of the offense and allow the deficiencies of the pass blocking to be at least somewhat neutralized.
In order to cut expenses, we ditched satellite/cable and simply went with a HD antenna and Roku. Through Roku, we have it on the NFL Network page (which costs $2 per month). The good news is that they have an extended cuts version of Finding Giants on there. I'd be surprised if you can't find it somewhere else too like iTunes.
Brewer and Herman are not really good comparisons - Brewer's play was limited college and Herman did not play at the same level of competition.
Mosley was reportedly coming along but seems to get hurt a lot.
I look at Hart as a guy playing tackle who many think will be strictly guard material in the nfl.
They were OL who didn't work out. The better teams seem to find decent backup OL in the mid to later rounds more regularly. We really haven't found anyone. Brewer's play was limited by injuries, but he still played at a Big Ten school. Herman had tons of pancake blocks. Mosley couldn't even beat out Jerry.
His Combine #s were off the charts. Not sure what his problem is, but compared to Hart he's got so much more to work with.
Mosley's game tape from Auburn showed a guy who's stiff and lumbering in real play, no matter what his combine #s say. We COULD have drafted better OL than we did in late-middle rounds. Ricky Wagner in the 4th, Clint Boling in the 3rd. We just keep hitting on the wrong guys late in the draft for our OL. Maybe we should focus on players more than combine skills.

That's a low bar, but I hope he shows to be a find.
