If he hadn't suffered a season-ending injury in the final preseason game, he would have been starting by Week 3, at least, before Beckham returned. One assistant coach told me he was their best wide receiver in training camp and preseason, better than Cruz and Rueben Randle. It will be cruel if he never appeared in a regular season game for the Giants. |
Mortal Locks:
OBJ
Cruz
Randle
D. Harris
Likely:
M. Harris
Plausible:
Washington
Parker
That and DE seem to be our deepest 2 units.
The trouble for Parker is that he's very similar skill wise to D. Harris. How many of those kind of players does the team need.
As for Marcus Harris, he had hip surgery to repair a torn labrum, and was also fighting an injury to the AC joint in his shoulder. He's 26, so this might be his last chance to show he can stay on the field. There's little question he has NFL talent.
If you cannot play STs and have trouble staying healthy - your chances to win that 6th spot are virtually non-existent.
This is a throw away article. He compares Harris to Randle and Cruz while stating how better he looked compared to them. Remember who was throwing them the ball and who was throwing Harris the ball. So is he going to point out how Nassib was the best looking QB in the same period? Of course not because it silly and meaningless. Don't want to take a chance and anger his readers. Just another Raanan throw away article.
I think there's enough talent behind Beckham, Randle, Cruz and D. Harris to produce good camp competition and some decent backups; but the rest of the NFL isn't going to be waiting with bated breath for the Giants' WR cuts.

Excellent analysis. Fans tend to overestimate the talent of their own teams, especially at this time of the year, when "hope springs eternal." And that's OK. That's what fans do. But many of these players as you note are on their second, third, or fourth teams.
Eric I remember Washington and Harris being a big part of those 4th quarter preseason comebacks and those were with Nassib going up against non 1st string guys. I remember the starters were RR, Cruz and JJ.

I was talking about preseason games against other ones.
He's built almost like and bench presses like a linebacker. So the reports have at least some basis in the way the guy LOOKS. Plus he has a pretty level head it seems, and know he has to "make it" as an ST player to start off.
Unlike, perhaps, Corey Washington - who has talent as a pure WR but doesn't seem to "get it."
The Patriots do this consistently. They don't have pro bowl talent behind their starters. They groom guys to do what they need for them to do, and that makes them look good.
