NFT: Yanks Talk 5-26

superspynyg : 5/26/2015 1:53 pm
I was happy to see the Yanks call up Lindergren. I thought he pitched well enough to earn a bull pen spot out of ST. Heathcott has started off good. If he continues to produce it will be hard to send him down when Ellsbury comes back.

Eovaldi pitched great last night. He continues his Jekyll and Hyde ways. His stuff is electric when he can command it.

I couldn't be happier
RasputinPrime : 5/26/2015 2:06 pm : link
that we have two young players being given a shot to contribute. Win or lose, we need to see what we have so we don't facilitate a panic-move where we patch a sinking ship.
if Lindergren pitches well he'll stay
Stu11 : 5/26/2015 2:22 pm : link
the middle guys in the pen have been suspect in this rough patch we are in. If he pitches better than those guys I'm sure Girardi will keep going to him.
FYI- if you are going to hype someone

Get the name right. It's Lindgren- Jacob Lindgren.
Lindgren's walk rate has been high and he walked two
BeerFridge : 5/26/2015 2:41 pm : link
His command is still coming. Could be a real asset though.

Have they considered stretching out Shreve ?
Ron from Ninerland : 5/26/2015 2:58 pm : link
He's got great stuff; a mid nineties fastball, a high eighties slider and he's a lefty. Its true that he has some trouble with his command, but that should be less critical as a starter than as a reliever. If they get him to where he can go 4 or 5 innings he'd already be a better starter than Capuano and a better long man than Rogers.

With how well he plays and his apparent drive to play 100% all the time, the only concern I have is health. If he can stay healthy he is the second coming of Brett Gardner. I'll take two of them on every team.

I don't think he's going to be a Gardner clone. For one he has a much better arm. For two he will likely hit for more consistent power, whereas Gardner's swing and miss has jumped as his power numbers have. Heathcott's K totals for the minors are high but they actually got significantly better as he progressed, he simply missed a ton of development time. If he can stay in the lineup consistently a .280-.300 BA with a K rate of 15-20% may be doable.

He's platooning with Young and a lefty is pitching tonight for KC. Not crazy. I'd like to see that continue when Ellsbury returns, although I suppose that's wishful thinking with Beltran still around.

It's crazy in the sense that Young has been awful for a month.
in that sense, there is a lot of crazy in most of the Yanks' lineups
Del Shofner : 5/26/2015 4:30 pm : link
this year.
Heathcott's last full season in the minors...
Dunedin81 : 5/26/2015 4:50 pm : link
he had a reverse split. I'd much rather see him give it a shot against lefties over Young and his 6/42 May.
Young is a .359
LS : 5/26/2015 4:55 pm : link
and 228 OPS+ hitter versus lefties. I run him out there.

This is exactly the type
LS : 5/26/2015 5:10 pm : link
of game I play him in to try to get him back on track. Against a struggling lefty. I sit Beltran. He is a Drew like .176 and 47 OPS+ against lefties this year.

the "clone" reference is more a discussion regarding:

position
speed
fielding
slap-hitter
plays full-tilt.

Slade is more talented than Gardner
arniefez : 5/26/2015 6:29 pm : link
and still only 24 years old. His ceiling is higher than Gardner's. That doesn't mean he'll ever get there. But he's not a slap hitter. If he stays healthy and gets an opportunity he can be an above average MLB regular and a very exciting player to root for.
Let Beltran go
RetroJint : 5/26/2015 7:24 pm : link
at the break. I have seen him walk after balls he screwed up enough times. They would be half way through his contract. Play a 4-3 with the remaining outfielders. Both Gardner & Ellsbury need games off come the dog days.

Next call up RefRefsnyder, who peaked at 312 & 9 errors . Now he is at 290 with 11 errors, probably disappointed at seeing all the upward mobility and his name not getting called.
I loved Beltran

catcher's ERA was 4.4 coming in while McCann's is 3.84. Misleading. He has better rapport with his starter and catches a quieter game than McCann. Let us see if he can guide Warren through the middle innings.

still too early a hook on Warren
RetroJint : 5/26/2015 9:20 pm : link
Girardi has little confidence in Adam, who came in with a deceptive 2-4, 4.25. Victimized by just plain dumb defense & questionable bullpen moves by Girardi. Great command & stuff tonight. Late life on his fastball. Two shades on his breaking ball. I saw 6 or 7 flinches, when the batter winces at the tightness of his spin.
Agreed...should have let Warren stretch it a little
DC Gmen Fan : 5/26/2015 9:28 pm : link
But this is good - I don't think Warren had gotten out of the 6th inning yet prior to tonight...right?

There was bad defense in Washington, but Warren helped his demise by walking the shittiest hitters in their lineup. When Warren gives them a good start, just take it and move on.

Headley fucks up in the field again.

Reasonable minds can disagree, but I don't expect Heathcott to hit for much power at all. Allowing that minor league power numbers are not always a reliable proxy for major league power, Heathcott's never even reached 10 homers in a single year, and 2013 was the only year he cracked 5. Granted, he's been hurt, but his career ISO is .128. I think 10 homers with his current swing/approach is reasonable, but not much more than that, not unless he gets some extra luck with the porch in right.

But that's OK! If he hits .280/.330/.400 with scratch defense in CF or plus defense in a corner, in today's offensive environment that's, I don't know, 3 WAR per 600 PA? I think most of us would sign up for that without thinking twice.
8 in 399 ABs isn't terrible...
Dunedin81 : 5/26/2015 10:00 pm : link
that's one more than Gardner hit his entire MILB career. I don't disagree with you on the rest of it but he has more power than you think.
Warren
RetroJint : 5/26/2015 10:35 pm : link
reached the seventh in his last two starts. The defense behind him in his first start against Boston was comical. In another he got pulled in the fifth without qualifying for a win, then that idiot Rodgers let 2 of his in with a 3-run homer. Let's not even talk about the Washington start. Given Tanaka's inability to stay in the rotation, it is obvious that Adam Warren is the best starter on the Yankees. At some point, hopefully Jarhead will figure that out.

You are the one who can't even get a player's name right. I'd say you have bigger issues to work out than calling people names on a website who call you out on your lack of knowledge.
