there are some "switch to a 3-4" threads on there...some things never change.

Someone started a Fassel bashing thread which I commented on but can't view it...curious how I felt in early 99..probably hated him.

I specifically remember Tony in Ninerland announcing his Brother was going to be on the Law and Order TV Show.

Brings back fond memories of Giant LB corps past...

Interesting
jc in c-ville : 5/26/2015 6:51 pm : link
I first started becoming a regular around this time but didn't sign up until 2002.

The 96 draft recap- Giants would have signed Mervin Harrison ..possibly instead of Cedric.

97 draft- 3 hall of famers in the first 13 picks- Orlando Pace (#1), Walter Jones(#6)- the pick right before we selected Hilliard., Tony Gonzalez(#13).

If Jones is there, do the Giants draft him? How close were the Giants, after the 4 players (one of which they wanted bad) in 96 from drafting Harrison?

Funny how just ONE draft slot can affect you team for years to come.

Didn't VietVet actually get caught fabricating his military resume? I could be wrong, but I thought at the end of his time here he got busted on a few things he claimed.

I forgot about Nizar's mocks.
anyone who remembers those days

as being more golden than today has selective memory.
It was just as rancorous, some quality folk, some less than quality folk, some melt downers, some people who do nothing more than shit on others, just as many stupid threads, and just as many informative/decent threads, as today.

But, and maybe it's my selective memory, but I don't remember as many rate my 55th FF threads back then.

And not to shit on MiS, but he was just as prolific as Nizar at pumping out prospects for the Giants, and he had a weird metric for measuring them up. As the saying goes, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Who was the poster

Matt in Syracuse was a deranged, self-aggrandizing idiot
Greg from LI : 5/27/2015 4:17 pm : link
He did nothing more than compile scouting reports from a variety of sources like PFW and Ourlad's. He knew nothing about scouting and hadn't even seen many of the players he wrote "scouting reports" about. His original work consisted of crazy predictions of superstardom for Sean Bennett and a 50 touchdown season for Kerry Collins.

He did tell us he scouted Sean Bennett in a game he said he watched on TV. Someone checked here and determined that the game he mentioned was never televised anywhere.

66th. But we don't keep counting once we get that age do we coach?

Regarding MiS... he'll always have Osi. I remember Matt bringing up Osi's name weeks before I'd heard anyone else mention him and figured it was just 'Matt being Matt again' when he suggested that he may be a possible target for the Giants in the draft. Not sure how popular Osi was in draft circles but I LOVE the draft and follow it pretty closely in the months leading up to it and I'd never even heard of Osi. Then it happened... in the 2nd round... with the 56 pick... the New York Giants select... Osi Umenyiora?!

I just laughed and yelled 'Matt's boy!'.

So for all the shit Matt received... and probably a lot of it justified... he'll always have Osi.

He just went so far off the deep end sometimes
jcn56 : 5/27/2015 4:38 pm : link
that you found yourself rooting against players who you'd otherwise have no reason to root against, just to get him to shut the hell up. The White Jim Brown was no exception.

from the very beginning (a couple of user names ago). I was living in the UK when they would show 1 abridged game per week. USA Today (again, abridged version) came out twice a week.

BBI and Pete's Corner were life savers for me.

The Corner Forum is still the only website I go to every day.
