Tovar 2-4
Rivera 1-4, BB, K

AA-
Ynoa 6.1 innings 7 hits 5 runs 0 walks 0 k's (most disappointing prospect in the system for me. Headed toward non-prospect status to me)

Black 1 inning 1 hit 0 runs 0 walks 0 k's
Parnell 1 inning 0 hits 0 runs 1 walk 1 k
Cecchini 1-4, K (very nice season so far, errors are something to monitor)

One of Whalen's favorite childhood memories is Mets-related.

"I was 8 years old and I went to a Mets Baseball Academy camp, I want to say in Great Neck or Little Neck, New York," Whalen said. "I don't think they do it anymore. I remember meeting Mookie Wilson out there, playing catch with Scott Strickland and younger guys. I won, it was called, the Tom Seaver Most Outstanding Pitcher award. I was the only guy who got it that year. I wasn't even a pitcher then. I just could throw really hard for being 8 years old. It's a cool memory. And I still have that little medal."

Whalen primarily throws a sinker in the 89-91 mph range, although he can dial his four-seam fastball up to 92 or 93, and even an occasional 94 when required. He also throws a curveball, slider and the emerging changeup.

"I just try to pound the zone with the sinker," Whalen said. "I can take some off, just like Bartolo [Colon] does if you watch him. It's just working off that fastball and trying to get early contact."- Rubin

Wonderful- Molina being "evaluated" for potential TJS per @AdamRubinESPN #mets
What if
Giants2012 : 5/27/2015 9:31 am : link
the power bat can be obtained by moving a Conforto, Nimmo, Gee combo and protect the young pitching?

Then the bat is already here rather than hope for two or three years.
Well
DanMetroMan : 5/27/2015 9:33 am : link
Nimmo currently has no trade value with a knee issue, Gee has very limited trade value so that package is really hinged on Conforto and a team "buying low" on Nimmo.
Add in the fact
Shecky : 5/27/2015 9:37 am : link
That Conforto can't be traded yet, only as a PTBNL
Of course he has a ton of trade value
Giants2012 : 5/27/2015 9:39 am : link
he's not expected to join the MLB team for at least a year. It's not like an MLB player on the DL or a pitcher on the DL b/c of an elbow.

Go get the bat today by moving out the hopes of a bat developing tomorrow while protecting the arms. It's not anybody wants to part ways with any arms around here.

Nobody is trading for BrandoN Nimmo at "fair" value while he's laid up with a knee issue. He's had previous knee problems (which is likely where his once "track star" speed) went. You would be selling low at this point.

Disagree. This is not some prospect headed towards surgery or coming off surgery or close to making his debut. His worth hasn't changed b/c he's out for a bit. The value is his future.
Brandon
DanMetroMan : 5/27/2015 9:52 am : link
Nimmo doesn't have premium value at the moment any way you want to slice it. He's doing "okay" repeating AA and is currently injured. Conforto would be the "prime" piece. Heyman flat out said the Mets haven't traded Gee because there has been "close to zero" interest which has "shocked" the Mets.
Not

an issue for the big club but after Matz the pitching the system is suddenly below average. So many injuries and guys underperforming. Need to restock.

I love how 2012 spends post after post - after post - railing on Sandy, then shows us what a great GM he would make by trying to trade guys who can't even be traded yet, and thinking that injured guys have tons of trade value.

LMAO...
I don't care about Gee or any of these vet pitchers
Giants2012 : 5/27/2015 10:00 am : link
I've said they're worthless for almost two years and i really don't care about the depth in the minors once Matz is promoted. The Sox went from a dismal minor leagues to a top 3 almost overnight. It's about winning at the MLB level and enough time has passed. Those who want to fold at the card table are much more interested in a lifelong process which amounts to nothing more than a delusion of stability. These are the Mets and if they want to be the Cards or Red Sox they'll figure out a way to win and rebuild quickly rather than this bs.
To illustrate Dan's point re pitching depth
Shecky : 5/27/2015 10:02 am : link
Brad Wieck, as of today when factoring in health, is perhaps the #1 pitching prospect left.

Good news is there are lots of "arms" in the system and the major league club is far from in need of a young ace. But the shelves could use a restocking.

DanMetroMan : 5/27/2015 10:03 am : link
in the minors is extremely important when your payroll is what is it. How exactly do you improve the team without trade chips? And injuries happen (as we have seen). Luckily, someone I know with ties to the organization says the Mets agree with me that pitching is a big need in the system given the promotions/trades/injuries and will go pitching heavy in the draft.

I'd really like to see Wieck and Roseboom promoted right now. Wieck, Gsellman and Meisner are probably the "next 3" in terms of health/upside, Lugo is worth monitoring in "that mix". BA thinks Wieck is a reliever but great starters build if you ask me.

is an interesting little story (like Paul Sewald whom they signed for 1,000 bucks and has a legit shot at seeing CitiField despite meh stuff) Roseboom had terrible college numbers and his FB was mid-80's, Rubin said the Mets have up up to 90-91. He's 100% reliever and he's ancient for Savannah (23) but he too could see the bigs if all breas right.

A sample size might trick a few into believing the Mets suddenly get it but the signing of Cuddyer for a #1 and this miserable offense indicates they still hype it up better than the Cards, Sox and company get it year after year.

I thought this was a thread to discuss the Mets minor leaguers!

It looks like Sandy is in a tough spot right now. Matz clearly looks ready for the show, but the team owes money to Niese/Colon/Gee and none of them have any trade value for various reasons. I think most of us would expect Matz to outperform any of those 3 going forward in 2015, so it's up to Sandy to find a way to make it happen.
