NFT: Mets and DW

one of the things the Mets should do is move DW to second base. With his spinal trouble that would help taking pressure off of his back as the throw from second to first is much easier than third to first
Which is more of a strain on the back

an unobstructed throw you can step into and follow through or a flat footed throw with a runner bearing down on you to break up a double-play?
2nd is more ground to cover
Giants2012 : 5/27/2015 1:07 pm : link
besides Home Plate on occasion, he'll have turn to is right and left more often for throws (2nd and 1st) than he would at 3rd.

I don't see 2nd as less stressful for his back simply b/c of the toss.
Not a pro

but for me playing second was easier. Catching that ball moving towards third then turning making the throw to first. You had to put something on it. You felt that. I could see someone dealing with a spinal problem is going to feel that
Isn't first base

where they send old catcher and third basemen to circle the drain?

I think putting more velocity on the throw would cause more strain so i agree. I think the ground to cover, moving to get infront of the ball, sprinting to 2nd on a double play ball and torquing his body for a throw to 1st might put more strain than 3rd.

Either and all ways, this diagnosis isn't good for any position IMO and batting doesn't help either.
I'm probably the last one on the train,

but the idea that he'll ever be the same after all these health issues is fading fast.

I think posted a graphic that since Reyes left to go the Marlins, he (Reyes) has more games played than Wright.

Glad they didn't want to give Reyes all that cash because of the injuries.
2B is a more difficult

defensive position. Wright should go to LF or DH in an ideal world.
Reyes has played 4 more games than DW
Section331 : 5/27/2015 1:34 pm : link
since Reyes left the Mets. Neither player has been the picture of health.

I have no issue moving DW to 2B, but little in baseball puts more stress on the back than swinging a bat. Should they DH for him?
if his issues keep him from throwing from 3B or 2B
UConn4523 : 5/27/2015 1:36 pm : link
then DH is likely out too. If he's able to swing a bat with power with no pain, then there's no reason he can't play his position. I guess its a moot point anyway in the NL.

no, and that's not the point. they allegedly didn't pay Reyes because he was an injury risk. that's the point. When Wright got a lot more and has played less.
Should have traded them all out IMO

Either that or sign both, but what they did made no sense IMO.

If you sign both you do so because you feel you can still contend. If you can't contend I see no problem with trading both.

they did the worst possible choice, let Reyes walk, signed DW and surrounded him with garbage and then he gets hurt (probably predictably at this point).

Some of this is second guessing, but a lot of it was popular opinion at the time.
We don't know anything about Wright yet.

At first it was very gloomy and people thought he was going to get shut down again. Most of the stuff Ive been reading the last few days is pretty positive actually and that he should be able to manage this and get back to work shortly. Lets wait and see,
