underway....

Young vs. Pineda
1-0
RasputinPrime : 5/27/2015 1:18 pm : link
Moustakas HR. Pineda looking way more hittable than he did earlier this season. Get that man some tar!
Teix missed a HR by about 5 feet

we need a shorter porch.

Beltran with a 15 game

hitting streak. I really really wish we could have 2 DH's. I think the OF is sapping him of what is otherwise a very solid bat.

And doing it against a good team is really nice icing on the cake.
ARod can still hit 'em out.

I think it's safe to say they never considered A-Rod coming back when they gave Beltran that contract. He badly needs to get out of the field... it would probably help his offense.
re: Beltran
RasputinPrime : 5/27/2015 2:17 pm : link
apparently he has the second highest ball-off-bat speed on the team (ARod is first). We have too many aging stars. Too bad no one saw that coming....

Pineda battling.

Beltran is putrid in the field. That "double" should have been caught.

Balls are falling in front of him, behind him. You know it's bad when that's the spot you can probably "hide" a player in the field in YS.
Big K by Pineda.

Needs one more to get out of the jam.
Strikes out Cain on 3 pitches.

that so many hitters have a hard time barreling up Young. CC should pick his brain. Young is humming along with 86-87mph heat.

I believe he also just tied Lou Gehrig for 5th on the all time RBI list with those 3 RBI's.
I find the lack of hype surrounding these achievements silly
RasputinPrime : 5/27/2015 3:08 pm : link
and petty.

Cap Anson is in the 3000 hit club only because MLB counted all walks as hits for a full season (he had 60 or so I recall). Baseball has a prolific history with fudging the lines before moving them altogether.

So much ego and the players and fans suffer the most for it. ARod was a tool and he paid the price. He worked his ass off and has been the best overall hitter on this team in 2015.
Carpenter
RasputinPrime : 5/27/2015 3:09 pm : link
needs to be moved. Girardi has no patience for him and he really hasn't helped himself with bad outing after bad outing.

More impressive than watching Stephen Drew, for sure.

Good observation. He throws at a very hittable 96 with no stealth in his delivery. No movement on his fastball. Throws it like a catcher. They get in trouble when they use the guys ahead of the Too Tall. Wilson usually has no idea where his ball is going. He's dicey as well.

A-Rod at 40, completely clean , is one of the best power hitters in the game. His off-season sit down with Edgar Martinez was quite beneficial. For the first time in his career, he is concentrating on reading the spin on pitches rather than just guessing and swinging at every pitch like it is a fastball. That's what Reggie did. Magnificent all-time great. No 2 ways about it.
Great job sweeping the Royals

I have to wonder what is the cause of Beltrans poor fielding. I keep coming up with Beltran. He was a gold glove center fielder not that many years ago. I have to wonder how hard he works to keep himself in shape.

I'm Rite here. Sorry I have a life and it was a holiday week I can't spend every minute on BBI arguing with fools like you everyday. Sweeping the royals doesn't change my mind about this team they play in bad division which will be the only reason they will be alive all season. Let's see how they do on this west coast trip against a bad Oakland A's team has the worst record in baseball and in Seattle where they will see king Felix.

Dunedin81 : 5/28/2015 9:22 am : link
we went from doom and gloom to first with a (small) cushion in three games. It's going to be a roller coaster season, but all of these teams have warts. Unless one of the teams really makes a run (I'd guess the Jays or the Sox with one or two additions to the pitching staff, but either could just as easily tank) it should be neck and neck for the next several months, which will be in turns uplifting and depressing. We actually do have a number of kids who could play meaningful reps this year, so even if we struggle a bit it could still be a fun season.

Yep Dun it will be interesting to see what happens at 2b. Yes Drew has an excellent glove, but him and Didi at the bottom of the order is like having 2 pitchers hit at this point. Seems like the pitching got straightened out the past few days. The Texas thing was a fluke. We caught them at the absolute worst time. They went in to Cleveland and scored 20 more runs the next 2 days as well. Prince Fielder decide to do his babe Ruth routine for a week.

but Tanaka threw ~65 pitches in Scranton yesterday. Got roughed up a bit, but the results are somewhat meaningless. I'm guessing he gets another AAA start before getting the call.

He gave up a HR that accounted for his three runs, but the more troubling stat is that his velo was reportedly down from his previous rehab outing.

Yup. Would absolutely not be surprised if 87 or 88 wins is enough to secure the division.

Real happy to see Slade and Lindgren up (and Pirela, although I don't expect much from him really), hopefully they're the first of many.
