NFT: Jared Dudley's pick for most most overrated player...

DanMetroMan : 5/27/2015 6:59 pm
“I would say Carmelo [Anthony] … Carmelo is viewed as a top-five player … He has the talent to be able to facilitate … He’s gotta get out of the first, second rounds — he’s gotta get his teams to the playoffs. LeBron, with that [Knicks] roster, LeBron would’ve gotten them to the playoffs. They would’ve been at least an eight-seed.”

He's a lock. And I kinda hate him.
I said this to Cuse fans when he was drafted

it will take him YEARS to do anything of note. It was that way for Kobe, Lebron, etc, etc.

So is Tracy McGrady a hall of famer?

I laugh who kill melo for not getting out of the first round when he lost to the spurs and lakerz...
So to summarize Dudley's brilliant analysis:
Stu11 : 5/27/2015 8:08 pm : link
"Lebron is a lot better all around player than Melo"
wow that sort of brilliant insight you just can't pay enough for...

actually, Melo and the Nuggets did reach the Western Conference Finals in 2009, but lost to the Lakers in 6 games. That was probably the peak of Melo's career.
Good point, so Dudley's

Melo has finished in the Top 10 of the MVP vote just two times. In '10 and '13, with '13 being the only year where he was actually in the MVP mix.

He's not overrated. The lack of any MVP-love whatsoever from the media is proof.

But he's overhyped for sure. The LeBron personal rivalry props Melo up by default because of Bron's greatness. Plus, Melo plays in NYC and gets a lot of national attention for his performance.
and he wasn't REALLY
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/27/2015 8:33 pm : link
in the MVP mix in '13 either, everyone knew LeBron and Durant were better. But I consider him apart of the mix with that strong 3rd place finish.

Melo got plenty of attention in Denver. It's only when player play in NY that they're instantly considered "overrated".

See: Jeter, Derek

Jeter was listed as the most overrated player every freakin year. It wasn't true then and it's not true now. People just hate all things NY.

When I think about that statement, you're right. I never seen Melo flop. Actually most of the times I seen him bark at an official I always thought he had a genuine beef. I always wonder why officials respect Harden calls. Lebron appears to be trolling with his flops so I'm never sure to take him serious.
BTW, who in the world would want to interview Jared Dudley
Mason : 5/28/2015 1:29 am : link
He never lived up to that 2nd contract. The Suns love to overpay for non-athletic guys that can shoot erratic threes.

lebron in his comparison shows how idiotic he is. As someone already said "breaking news, lebron is better then Melo" we all know that, i mean melo knows that. As for Lebron propping him up, that goes both ways as he has been unfairly compared to him his whole career.
LeBron aside,
Deej : 5/28/2015 7:13 am : link
who views Melo as a top 5 player? What a ridiculous statement. So of course he's overrated based on that made up classification.

39th in career scoring and should easily crack the top 15, that probably gets him into the hall of fame pretty easily. Say what you will about him but he is a scorer.

Absolute lock. BASKETBALL HOF includes college... he has an NCAA title + his NBA accolades

8 time all star

39th all-time in scoring

If he averages his usual 1900 ish point per season he's a LOCK to finish top 20 all-time in scoring. I don't even especially like Melo but he's a LOCK. Joe Dumars and James Worthy are HOFers.

The clippers traded a 2017 1st rounder to GET RID of Jared Dudley and sign Spencer Hawes. Has to be one of the worst trades I've seen, even if it was not that big of a move, especially when you got Austin Rivers and Hedo Turkoglu taking his would be minutes...

You must not be very familiar with the Basketball hall of fame.
According to BR
DanMetroMan : 5/28/2015 9:42 am : link
there are 14 current players with better HOF% (and all 14 will make it as well)

1. Kobe Bryant 1.0000
2. Tim Duncan 1.0000
3. Kevin Garnett 1.0000
4. LeBron James 1.0000
5. Dirk Nowitzki 1.0000
6. Dwyane Wade 0.9999
7. Chris Paul 0.9997
8. Ray Allen 0.9987
9. Paul Pierce 0.9974
10. Dwight Howard 0.9893
11. Chris Bosh 0.9864
12. Kevin Durant 0.9821
13. Vince Carter 0.9455
14. Tony Parker 0.9386
I don't think it's the NY bias in Melo's case
jcn56 : 5/28/2015 9:45 am : link
although I do think his being in NY has certainly amplified the calls.

They pulled the same crap with Melo when he was in Denver. No different from what they used to say about Barkley. To some writers, short of picking up an entire team and carrying them to the Finals, they're overrated.

Playing with Lebron did nothing for him in terms of statistics. He looked like less of a player than he really is.

agree that he gets overlooked. On the other hand, he makes the all star team every year and has received three max contracts.

Bosh is a lock HOFer and has made 10 straight all-star games yet I'm sure the average fan would argue against him making the HOF.

No Piston bias there.

I dont get it. This has been Lebron's worst playoff performance in years. Shooting 43% from the floor, 16% from down town, 76% from the line, and averaging well over 4 turnovers per game.

Its commendable that he they got to the finals minus love and a hurt Kyrie, but Lebron has played much better in playoffs than he has this year.

And another reason why BR is the worst webpages on the Internet.

Are you kidding me with Vince Carter??? In what world would Vince make it and not Melo? And I love Vince. Its not like hes ever had playoff success himself when he was the lead man.

Melo already has as many All-Star games as Vince and 3 times as many All-NBA team selections than him and he is 8 years younger. You can go further and Melo has an NCAA Title and 2 more Olympic Medals.
