2 potential surprise cuts for Giants this summer....

Andy in Boston : 5/27/2015 8:48 pm
way early to be talking about this , but just some thoughts I've had. I think the following 2 players could be on the bubble. Mostly because of the additions of certain players...and the Giants might be looking more at upside.

1) Cullen Jenkins - had a down year last year, partly because of injury, but he needs to have a good camp and play well and stay healthy. Age is creeping up on him, and it appears he may have lost a step. Youth behind him like Bromley, Dominique Hamilton, Kenrick Ellis will be putting added pressure. Hankins, Bromley, Ellis are locks to be on the 53 and TC and Giants are intrigued with Hamilton. The Giants aren't going to keep 5 DT's.

2) Preston Parker. Had a good year last year, but it doesn't matter and he's got some young talent underneath him that will really push him. C. Washigton. Geremy Davis, Marcus Harris, Edwards....Parker is also going to have to be productive in camp and in the preseason. They're not going to keep 6 receivers and Cruz, Beckham, Randle, Dwayne Harris and Geremy Davis appear to be the locks. I think its pretty clear the Giants like Davis on specials and as a physical presence at WR.

I meant

not going to keep 7 WR's.
neither would surprise me
chris r : 5/27/2015 8:53 pm : link
Parker is a poor man's version of Harris and Jenkins looked done last year and is 34.
I doubt Jenkins is in real trouble since he is the only vet at DT
Mason : 5/27/2015 8:54 pm : link
and Parker is not anywhere close to trouble. Corey Washington on the other hand better show something on ST if he wants to make this roster. Not everyone is high on Corey Washington which could explain why he was inactive for most of last season while completely healthy. Davis, Parker, RR, D. Harris and Beckham are all capable of ST. The team is not going to cut a player who can play both offense and ST for a player who isn't even a number 3 WR and can't play STs who rarely dresses for games.
I'm still waiting for the surprises.

.
Neither is a sure cut
Bill in UT : 5/27/2015 9:09 pm : link
but neither would really be a surprise. It would be nice if we could upgrade both of them
Wouldn't

be surprised at all if Jenkins is cut. Not sure about Parker. Mosley could be a surprise cut. He couldn't even beat out Jerry last year.
Parker would surprise me
mattlawson : 5/27/2015 9:14 pm : link
he has backup and ST value and I think a year under his belt will help him.

My thoughts exactly..
I think both these guys
DavidinBMNY : 5/27/2015 9:36 pm : link
Are 50/50 to make the roster at best.
I disagree on Parker....
Doomster : 5/27/2015 9:48 pm : link
Davis is not a lock.....

Cullen Jenkins was playing with the #1's today at DE.
As much as I dont like CJ
Jim Burt64 : 5/27/2015 10:07 pm : link
He is a vet - and will make it to rotate in & provide Leadership... I think his starter days are over though.
Mosley
Samiam : 5/27/2015 10:15 pm : link
Did he may at all last year ? I don't remember him playing even replacing injured players or garbage time? Doesn't say a lot for his chances this year
I still think ayers is on the bubble
djm : 5/27/2015 10:26 pm : link
Giants could keep 9 DL and maybe keep the extra guy for specials at some other position. If the usual suspects make it at DL ayers would be the 10th. What if Wynn and Moore really shine this summer? Please let this happen...
I'd be a little surprised by Jenkins, but Parker?
Mad Mike : 5/27/2015 10:50 pm : link
If he's your 5th receiver, fine. If he's off the team, well, that's fine too. Not seeing how that could surprise many people.

Really hoping this isn't permanent. Cullen Jenkins at DE makes my nether regions so soft. We have 5 other guys on the roster I'd rather have start at DE opposite JPP.

That makes absolutely no sense to me.

I laughed and nodded. Jenkins might be passed on the depth chart by Kuhn.
But not at DE.

!
It all depends on who survives camp

Don't forget about Kenrick Ellis. He also is a vet and I expect him to be a starter next to Hank. Thinking Kuhn will likely be pushed off of the roster by the time final cuts come around.
Neither is a sure cut ...
Beer Man : 5/28/2015 8:45 am : link
And neither would be a surprise. Cullen is getting long in the tooth and was average at best in 2014. Parker is nothing spectacular and very easily replaced with others on the roster.
Jenkins at DE
JonC : 5/28/2015 8:47 am : link
Oof, is Selvie not out there? They must be going easy on Moore with the shoulder.
Both vets could be rendered as duplicate talent
JonC : 5/28/2015 8:49 am : link
if the youngsters behind them step up. There's clearly enough potential upside there, but ...

Only cut that is less likely is Eli.
Jenkins'
gmen9892 : 5/28/2015 9:40 am : link
Versatility and veteran presence are needed on the DL. Very much doubt they cut him. Parker has a very legit chance of being cut, and I don't think it would be surprising in the least, even less surprising if Cruz comes back and looks healthy in training camp.
I could see a trade
Old Dirty : 5/28/2015 10:53 am : link
of Preston Parker or better yet, Rueben Randal, to get us a potential starter at OT before the season starts. PP trade would have to be paired with a pick or two, but it can be done. I love our depth at WR this year and think we could afford to deal one of these two without missing a beat, injuries aside, of course.
You are not getting squat in trade for Parker
Hades07 : 5/28/2015 11:41 am : link
Whatever you will get for a 7th rounder will be the same as you can get with a 7th rounder and Parker.
We could have had
