NFT: Delta Wi-Fi

RodneyHamp : 5/28/2015 5:46 am
Does anybody here have experience using the on-board wifi on a delta flight? I am going to be on a flight tomorrow night and was wondering if the wi-fi is good enough to use apps (namely the NBC Live Sports app) with streaming video so I could watch the Ranger game. Thanks for your input.
I don't think you can do streaming video

but maybe it's gotten better since I used it awhile ago.
thanks for the reply

I'll be really bummed out if I can't watch the whole game.
It's basically dial up speed

if that. No chance to stream video. Your best bet is to listen to a radio feed if you can find one. But even that might be too much bandwidth.
I have used Gogo In Flight Wifi a bunch

You will not be able to stream video through the service. The only airline that allows for streaming video through their wifi is Southwest, but it's only the channels they support.

Best you can do is to find whatever radio station is carrying the game and listen in.
Bummer!

New to me, sounds awesome. But it says the media is stored on the plane.
Even with the enhanced..

Delta media options, it is very difficult to stream video through the GoGo connection, although I've gotten some things to play.

Most of the media Delta hosts and it is accessed through their site - movies and TV shows.
Thanks for the info guys

I'll give it a shot with the NBC Sports app, hopefully at the very least the audio stream of the game will work.
You can listen to the ranger game

on the tunein radio app on espn NY. You can listen to WFAN on that app too but not the Yankees.

another great option, thank you so much for the recommendation.
unfortunately GoGo

uses cell towers for their internet connection so you cannot stream video. You will be able to stream audio with basically no interruptions. TuneIn for WFAN or ESPN radio should work well for you. Or you could hold off, DVR the game and watch it later. That's always a risky deal though - i know.

Foreign carriers use satellite connectivity so you can usually stream video and get internet over the oceans.

I actually saw a guy with what i think was a Slingbox set up on a Delta flight from SFO to JFK during the NYG/Atlanta playoff game in 2011 somehow stream the game right to his laptop. He rigged the laptop up to the bulkhead so his seatmates and those around him could watch as well. Never seen that before.

Thanks B. Unfortunately I'm flying out to a bachelor party, and had to take a later flight b/c of work, booked a long time ago. They will all be there watching the game already, and it will be impossible to not find out what happened until I get home on Sunday! I'm DVRing the game (+120 minutes) and I'll try to listen on the plane using the suggestions from this thread. Hopefully they win and I'll have something fun to watch on Sunday!
