Have had luck going to the New York Passport office. The link below says 2 weeks but I seem to remember everything being solved within a week. I know there's an office in Stamford as well. Link - ( New Window )
I'm in central NJ and went to the Philly office a few years ago to get my passport renewed (it was also damaged so they might have viewed it as lost); got there around 9am and left around 3pm with my new passport. I believe the fee was around $100-$200 but it was for business travel so work picked up the costs. I also had to bring along something from my corporate office as to why i needed the passport expedited.
being a business necessity, turning it around that quickly is going to be tough. To have the best shot, you'll have to go to one of the passport offices to have any chance. Call before to understand what you'll need to bring and if they can do it.
Don't trust any service guaranteeing doing it for you. They will charge a large fee and will be in the same boat you will be in.
Had to do this in 09 when I got scheduled for a business trip to Canada. You call up, get an appointment, and then head in.
You have to be able to show them either a hotel reservation or airplane ticket proving you have plans to go to Canada.
Depending on the backlog, you'll either get it that day, or have to come back the next day. I had to come back the 2nd day. NY Passport agency - ( New Window )
There are third party agencies that handle very short turnaround
I've never used one, but had a colleague a few years back that had to quickly get a passport renewed after we were told we had to travel to London at the last minute. IIRC, we had a Friday flight, found out on Monday, and he had the whole thing done in 72 hours.
The fees were ridiculous though, pretty sure the firm ended up paying a good $400 or so in expedite/handling fees.
is that if it is only for a personal trip, you may not get the passport in time. Preference is given to business travelers, and you may have to prove that you are there for business beyond just producing a hotel reservation, depending on which agent you work with.
I knew on guy who had to actually get his company's Canadian office to call and vouch for him.
I brought with me a notarized letter on company letterhead stating that I was going on a business trip to Canada.
The agency website only states "Proof of travel is required when applying at this agency. You must provide a hard copy of your itinerary or other proof of travel."
Those awe Passport Acceptance Facilities. They can accept applications and they forward them on to State. But it don't think you want to go there if you're in a hurry.
