He might be on the Yanks by the all star game! We could sure use a SP like that.
I don't see that happening with the current GM and manager.let's face it they rather have Capuano pitch than give someone like Mitchell a shot. Sabathia can have an ERA of 20 and he's not getting removed from the rotation. Hell look at 2nd base and that tells you all you need to know about this leadership.
What Jagielo is probably doing, more than anything...
I'd like to see Jagielo stick around, simply because it allows me to daydream that Headley will get sent packing. It's not like his much-vaunted defense has been worth a shit this year anyway.

Andujar looked like the heir apparent but he is having growing pains at Tampa. DBJ is doing alright but he's a fringe major league prospect absent power development. Jagielo could take over, stranger things have happened, but he's probably more valuable to a team as some combo of 1B and corner OF prospect.
I feel like the Yankees have started worrying way too much about defense over offense. Obviously, there's a point at which a guy simply can't play a position, but I'll take a hitter with an iron glove over a team of Chase Headleys. It's not ideal, but if you have to prioritize one over the other, that's the one.
to log some innings in AA. He's been dominant, but I think the Yankees have a poor track record of rushing development.
Meh. Hitting is where development time matters most. For pitchers, especially a guy with elite stuff, it is important to find an appropriate level because if you're not being challenged you're not going to improve. That was DePaula's issue. He destroyed Low A but he couldn't make the adjustments when he was promoted.
Nope. Someone on Twitter suggested it might be Connor Kendrick, which would make sense based on his longevity there. Holder is pitching the best but has just 50 innings in High A and was a closer until being drafted last year.
RE: RE: RE: Plus, who was the last guy who they truly rushed?
You could argue a guy like Katoh wasn't ready for Low A, but Katoh wasn't a premium prospect either.
What the hell happened to Katoh? Such a weird trajectory to get worse two seasons in a row. Looked like a keeper.
Similar to DBJ. Both kids from premier high school programs who killed short-season ball (because they're largely playing against preps and Dominicans who haven't been playing consistently good opponents) and who even excelled in NYP against varied college competition but struggled in full-season ball when the pitching got much, much better.
This is unfortunate, might drop him out of the first...

Some quick @mlbdraft news: @KathanNirby will not pitch in @NCAACWS Regional this weekend as some hoped for @UVABaseball. More on .com soon
Doesn't surprise me though. Everything I had heard through the grapevine said Kirby wasn't going to pitch.
What a brutal season. Injuries wrecked what could have been another run at the title, although I'm damned proud of how they managed to claw their way back to the postseason.

Jones finally looks like a 1st rounder and Thaiss is a stud, so it hasn't been all bad this year. We lose Waddell, presumably Kirby (unless he falls so far he wants to return) and McCarthy this year but we should be in pretty good shape next year.
Wonder if McCarthy might be more likely to come back
than Kirby - can't imagine he'll be drafted higher than rounds 3-4 now.
He was considered likely to be picked between the sandwich round and Round 3. Now he's likely in the 2-4 range. I'd be surprised if he came back if he goes there.
RE: Also KIley mocks Garrett Whitley to the Yanks...
A solid start by RHP Gabriel Encinas (@GE1124)! 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K (season-high). Tampa leads Palm Beach, 3-0 in the 6th. #Yankees
Encinas is coming back from TJS and is a very talented kid. We've had a number of injuries to some top pitchers, but the performance of Encinas (2.83 ERA), Rookie Davis (10/16 runs given up in just two of his eight outings at High A) and Brady Lail (2.88 ERA as a 21 year old at AA) are all very promising. The 1 BB for Encinas is particularly promising; he has allowed just 14 H in 28.2 IP but has given up 15 BBs. Only four of those walks, however, have come in his last four outings, so he is making progress on his control.
That's probably still Bird. The Yankees have said repeatedly they think Bird has the best bat in the org.
