Arguably the 2 best o-lines in football are in the NFC East, and they both like to run. Ayers and Moore are not run stoppers, and Odi and Wynn have to prove it this offseason to play significant reps. They need a guy who can hold up against those lines.
There was a Fox SPorts article linked today on 4 players with the most to gain from OTA and it mentioned that McBride was "unlikely to participate". SO I guess it was prospective and turned out to be inaccurate.

The big concern with him was value and viability at #9, and I was vocal in that regard. Strong value pick at #33 even with the trade up, which I was also vocal in support of.

My real issue is with what the pre-draft process has become. I always like the team to draft based on production/track record than I do combine and "workouts".
My feeling all along has been that even if Collins projects as an in the box safety "extra LB" type of player, the defense still needs one of those too. He is also an enforcer and leader, which checks off two more boxes for defensive roster needs.
As awesome as he was last year, we still don't know for sure if that was just a fluke or if he really is transcendentally good. Just the fact that he stands out in OTA's to the extent that Raanan is talking about makes me feel more and more confident.
Understood, but 32 other teams passed on him in the first round, so there's essentially a consensus that he was a second rounder in this draft. We need him, at either/both positions, for certain.

He was dynamic in his ability to make the first guy miss almost every time. If they work with him on being more selective (i.e. when to fair catch) some of those shorter returns would be eliminated.
Collins would be the "free" safety type. He moves significantly better than Taylor. In fact, it was obvious he moves better than any of the safeties on the field at OTAs.
This guy is a major steal. Reese nailed this and given the trade up it's one of the best picks since Eli.

Selvie is fighting for a spot because there are 6 DEs that have a shot (on a team that may only keep 5) : Selvie, JPP, Moore, OO, Wynn, Ayers (he's a lot like Ayers) and the others, I think, are locks.

I'm not someone who is 100% against our stars being out there to return punts. The Sehorn injury has clearly scarred a large portion of this fanbase and caused us to get paranoid whenever we put a valuable player back there on returns.
But based on what I've seen, I don't think Beckham is a good enough returner to justify the risk of keeping him out there. Sure he's obviously an agile and quick athlete but he really hasn't shown to be anything more than an average returner.
14: 8.14 YPR in the NFL last year (27th out of 41 PRs with 10+ returns)
College: 62 returns for a 9.0 YPR and 2 TDs
The numbers show that he's been pretty average as a returner throughout his college and pro career. Sure PRs have a lot to do with the blocking as well, YPR is team dependent. But still, the eye test also shows that Beckham isn't exactly DeSean Jackson back there.
I personally would not risk Beckham to be a full-time PR. I don't feel like the risk is worth the reward. But I would absolutely keep him in a part-time PR role and I'd trust his hands and instincts in a close/late game where we need to get a big return or where we need sure hands to fair catch a ball.

It's an initial projection of what the coaches want the lineups to be, and they often do carry through into camp, and into the regular season. They normally are a good indication of the depth chart.
