The NYG Problem: Cowboys and Eagles

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/28/2015 3:17 pm
The Giants are 1-5 against the Cowboys in the last six games, and a Dez Bryant fingertip away from being 0-6.

The Giants are 2-4 against the Eagles in the last six games, and one of those wins was Andy Reid's last game and the other the Eagles finished with Matt Barkley at QB.

We can't win the NFC East unless we start beating these two teams.

Agreed. The Cowboys may be hard to catch this year,
yatqb : 5/28/2015 3:21 pm : link
but I think we can match up with the Eagles if we have indeed improved our lines. I'm gonna be optimistic about that.
This is of no consolation
gmen9892 : 5/28/2015 3:23 pm : link
But both of the Cowboy games could have gone either way last year. Had it not been for a terrible defense, we could/should have won that home game.

Same goes for the final Eagles game last year.

This is the best Giants team we've had in about 3 years. I think we beat each of these guys at least once this year.

Yea, the Eagles have totally gotten the best of the giants during TC's tenure...

Remind me again who has the championships and who has....

Fuck it nevermind.

Regarding the OP, we're kinda stating the obvious, no?

Injuries, close games, rare meltdowns(we were kicking the shit out of them for 53 minutes in 2010)..Or they were simply better..

New year, hopefully better health, better players..Cycles do end..
Very true!
TC : 5/28/2015 3:34 pm : link
But while the Giants didn't make any block-buster FA acquisitions, they added some interesting pieces, then did the same in the draft, and made a major coaching change. I wouldn't be surprised to see a quite different Giant team in '15 from '14.

But whether that's different good, or different bad, is yet to be determined! ;-)

Is the Cowboys and the Eagles were able to take advantage of the most injured team in the league the last two years. Now that we're healthy (please, please, please) it's time to pay up.
I'm not sure we can discern

a pattern against the new Eagles regime one season in. If Chip beats us twice again this season then I will start to worry.

The Cowboys on the other hand have had our number.

such a weird series...

Parcells used to own them, then they owned Parcells.

Reeves and Fassel didn't have much trouble with them for the most part.

But Coughlin can't seem to beat them.

We used to own Dallas, but it's switched.
It would be nice to open the season with a home game

Probably the worst performance by the Giants under Coughlin. I was livid when I heard the Giants' defense was the only team to play both safeties back defending the deep pass against the Eagles during their early season struggles. Total lack of understanding what the league was doing to give the Eagles' offense problems.

The trends with the Cowboys and Eagles are trends of a bad football team which unfortunately, the Giants have been for a while now.

I'm not sure how exactly the Giants accomplishments are relevant to that particular comment. They are 8-12 regular season against the Eagles during TC's tenure, and they are 0-2 against them in the playoffs. I think it's pretty fair to say the Eagles have owned the Giants for the most part during the past decade.

Whoopity fucking doo. I'd much rather they own us in the regular season and we come out with hardware in the end. I understand it'd be nice to own them *and get the hardware but are we really complaining? (dumb question I know.)

Yes, we gotta beat our division rivals who've been owning us. Well no shit.

As for the first eagle game last year, losing cruz in the fashion we did can fuck with a team.

It hasn't been about the Wide Receivers going crazy.

A beefed up D-line, better tackling LBs, and Collins hopefully fix the problem.

Eagles
stretch234 : 5/28/2015 5:42 pm : link
The 2 Dallas games last year the Giants stopped the Giants, not the Cowboys. First by going conservative R,R, P then the int taking points off the board then the inexcusable lack of an adjustment on the Dallas drive. The Cowboys did not run over the Giants. The biggest upgrade here is the DC. Dallas will score points and the Giants will score points

The Eagles are a different story. The Giants do not ever seem to get the best of Jason Peters. Unlike Witten who makes catches with Giants guys on him, the Eagles TE are always open running the seams and the backs are always open. McCoy killed them

So are you suggesting that we have a choice of either winning a championship or beating our division rivals? Are you also suggesting that in the years we didn't win the ring, we would not have had a better chance of making the playoffs had we played better vs Philly and Dallas? Very confusion post.

This is especially true in the case of their last 6 games against Dallas. All but 1 of these games was decided by a score or less. Even in their 1 double-digit loss to Dallas, the Giants had the ball down 7 in the 4th quarter.

against division opponents for years and it's cost us big time (at least two playoff spots off the top of my head). Even in the most recent super bowl season we lost two games to a bad Redskins team. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of our self scouting.

I agree. The need to run the ball in the second half lost 3 of the 4 games vs. these teams.
I Guess We'll see how Spags
Aloha Alan : 5/28/2015 7:18 pm : link
game plans for each. Dallas and that brick wall o-line will be a very unique assignment for Spags twice a year (or more??).

Philly should not be as formidable, plus it should take Sam Bradford quite a few games to get acclimated to Chip Kelly's Offense. If he gets hammered quite a bit then the learning curve gets longer.
Dallas' defense
dep026 : 5/28/2015 7:43 pm : link
should be god awful again this year. I expect the Eagles offense to take a step back. We have upgraded the defense. Our RBs will be better, a healthier Cruz will be a plus.

is that our defense has been inept. This team can score with them. What they have not been able to do is withstand the second half of Dallas games with Perry Fewel's defensive scheme. Things are about to change

but when they lose to those two teams I feel as though the season is a failure. Especially that Philadelphia team (my most hated team in professional sports).
I hope that the changes Big Blue has made this off season will be successful, and that the Giants will finally beat their inner divisional rivals.
Most of our losses for the last three years were due to.....
nicky43 : 5/29/2015 8:18 am : link
Fewell's weak defense and an extremely weak o-line. Add in all the injuries. Hopefully the defense is fixed and the oline is at least slightly improved. The injury bug has already bit Beatty. Just pray it stops there!

no.

but my only hope is McAdoo didn't want to anger TC, being that it was his first year on the job. Hopefully, his balls have dropped this year and can recognize when to stay with the hot hand and not kill our own momentum.
