Is this the year the JPP of TE's takes a huge step forward?

David in LA : 5/28/2015 4:07 pm
I know it's very early, but it looks like Robinson has been off to a good start so far. Hauled in a TE from Eli, and from the video clips, he looks much bigger than last year. Obviously, Donnell is the starter, but could AR supplant Fells and eat into Donnell's snaps? What a boon it would be if he made a huge leap this year.
Better late than never.

Right?
Hopefully..
Big Blue '56 : 5/28/2015 4:13 pm : link
If he does, we potentially go from squat(pre-season last year) to one of the stronger positions in the league, imv
If he did, he would basically be following the same career path
BLUATHRT : 5/28/2015 4:17 pm : link
as Travis Beckum. Ton's of AA for a TE, little production until the last year of his deal.

If Robinson takes a step forward, he would wildly exceed Beckum's career path. When did Beckum ever progress (other than one terrific play against GB)?
no

Beckham would have been a better fit for this offense
mattlawson : 5/28/2015 4:41 pm : link
and his final year he was clearly a more capable target for Eli. Eli threw it a lot more to the FB, TE, and RB in 2011 than before or since under KG.
Godot will show up first

In what way was he clearly a more capable target?
The Giants want better Tight Ends
Ivan15 : 5/28/2015 5:06 pm : link
Donnell's a crappy blocker and Robinson hasn't been a productive receiver.
Fells is okay as 2nd or 3rd TE if he hasn't aged 2 years in 4 months.

All 3 need to be worrying about their spots. I can envision 2 new TEs by September.
i think he gets cut this year

I was thinking a huge step forward to the unemployment line.

I'm not wishing that on him, just what I'd guess.
unfortunately, i do not see it
nyynyg : 5/28/2015 6:16 pm : link
if he has not seen the field yet in any meaningful way, that is pretty darn concerning. And even the play he made last year, did he strike anyone else as "awkward"?
yes
Deej : 5/28/2015 6:17 pm : link
he'll move on with his life.
he didn't get many chances last year
Simms11 : 5/28/2015 6:37 pm : link
and I don't see him getting cut. He's athletic enough and is a decent blocker. He will get plenty of opportunity this pre-season however, especially with Lacosse and Tye breathing down his neck for a roster spot.
I'd be surprised.
arcarsenal : 5/28/2015 6:40 pm : link
It's strange because at the time of the pick, it seemed that the story on him was that he was a great athlete but raw and unpolished at the position and needed to be coached a bit and that's fine, but.. I've really never noticed him athletically. In the limited time I've seen him, he's looked fairly slow and plodding. Didn't display great hands. Just nothing physical that made me think "wow, this kid has some talent.. he just needs work"

I just haven't seen much of anything to be hopeful about. Would love to be wrong but that's been my perception of him so far.

and Fells are prime candidates to be cut. Part of what could be a major veteran purge, including Mosley, Reynolds, Herman, Jenkins, Kuhn, and a few others.
Call me crazy. I see some Visanthe Shiancoe here.

No.

with full health and a full training camp. But I'm not optimistic.
given what we've seen from him so far

it just seems like wishful thinking to expect him to become a contributor.

Ditto.
He supposedly,
Doomster : 5/29/2015 8:09 am : link
is a better blocker than Fells/Donnell, but tat is not saying much, because they both suck at blocking....

He show good straight line speed up the seams, but loses all that speed when he has to make a cut.....

Lets face it, he has not had the opportunities....and the Giants must know the reason for that.....

He made the team last year, because Fells/Donnell were basically unknowns, and he is cheap.....

He must show something this year....a blocking TE is needed by this team....it's a golden opportunity for him....it's all up to him....
What constitutes
King Quis : 5/29/2015 8:32 am : link
a huge step forward? To me it wouldn't have anything to do with how many sacks he has this year.It would be about how he got those sacks.Does he expand his bag of tricks to get to the Quarter Back,Has he shown the ability to constantly be the double team like all great DE's show? Will he show an upgrade to his motor this year and will he be a player that shows up during the big moments and the big games.

If the majority of those are still question marks or flat out no's then I would let him walk and allocate those funds to other positions that justify the signings. You just don't sign a person because they are a big name.

Sorry wrong thread fellas.... JPP has just got in my craw and I don't want any parts of him so the sight of his name brings on tangents on my part.
He's
AcidTest : 5/29/2015 8:40 am : link
really on the bubble IMO. He's done nothing. Same for Mosley. Now or never for both. And my guess is it's never. They're both fourth round picks whose time has run out. Robinson was passed on the depth chart by Donnell, a UDFA former QB from Grambling State. Mosley couldn't beat out Jerry.
agree with acid test.
Victor in CT : 5/29/2015 8:54 am : link
the guy has shown nothing. as someone else said, just getting on the field would be a major step forward.
Projections should be all over the place
Bob in Newburgh : 5/29/2015 8:56 am : link
Because of his perceived blocking potential and real bulk, combined with great, for his size, deep seam speed he could easily supplant Donnell as the starter in the base offense. If he blocks for the tough guy runners we have, TC will be impressed.

On the other hand, he is in the last year of his rookie contract. Not much dead money, so he could be cut in camp almost without consequence.

Bubble player, but a really expansive bubble.
