Really nice to see that. CC with a plan, mixing things up more, not relying on his now mediocre fastball alone.
Good job by CC.

What a waste he is. Amazing to see a guy just lose it so quickly and at a relatively young age.

AJ23 : 5/28/2015 11:14 pm : link
sending Drew down to the minors? Why does he need to figure it out, if he even can figure it out, in the Yankees lineup? Why doesn't this happen much anymore? I feel like it used to happen more. I need a drink.
Go the fuck away Ryan Ruocco

Among the 50 second basemen
AJ23 : 5/28/2015 11:23 pm : link
with 30 or more at bats, the bottom of the top Batting Average list rounds out like this:

47. Stephen Drew - 146 ABs, .164
48. Roughned Odor - 90 ABs, .144
49. Scooter Gennett, 65 ABs, .154
50. K. Negron - 58 ABs, .121

I swear to God, the guy in bold is the New York Yankees starting second baseman.
Sorry, obviously Gennett

I'd have gone to the pen earlier, but it's hard to do that after a good 5 innings with CC. But that double concerned me...and yet, he did good work on the next two batters. Then, woops.
It's just a matter of time
batman11 : 5/29/2015 12:08 am : link
with CC. His stuff causes him to have a tiny margin for error.
CC ya later.

Carpenter coming in. Hold on to your nuts McNally!
Joe waited too long to yank CC,

but when the choice is Carpenter, it's understandable.

There has to be a RHP in the minors who can give them something out of the 'pen.

5 IP 2 H 1 BB 7 K for Tampa. IIRC, he's battled multiple injuries in his minor league career and they seem to be slowly stretching him out as a starter again. Struggled with command in a few outings this year, but has only allowed 14 H in 28.2 IP with 37:15 K:BB.

Tyler Wade just keeps hitting for Tampa. Might be feeling the heat from Avelino/Mateo as he now has 18 SB (in 25 atts) for the season. He had 22 SB in 129 games last season.
this team is close to being
RasputinPrime : 5/29/2015 2:54 pm : link
in a position to take the division but they need to be realistic about:

Drew (gotta go)
Gregorius (can be the only light-hitter in the lineup)
Beltran cannot play the field - must get into the DH rotation
Capuano can't start for us
Tanaka isn't likely to finish the season without surgery
We have an old team and we need to inject youth wherever possible (Ref/Flores/Heathcott/Lindgren/Ramirez/Mitchell).

Couldn't agree more. We're in first place (barely) two months into the season and the changes you suggest all seem pretty obvious to me.
Unless you're going to platoon A-Rod and Beltran...
Dunedin81 : 5/29/2015 3:15 pm : link
which is doable I guess, the fact that A-Rod has no obvious defensive position makes it difficult to take Beltran out of RF.
You can't get rid of both Drew and Gregorius
Greg from LI : 5/29/2015 3:17 pm : link
Not unless you're trading for a shortstop and, given how weak the position is across MLB these days, I'm not sure who would be available out there who would be worth the price.

I didn't read him as saying get rid of Gregorious. He said:

"Gregorius (can be the only light-hitter in the lineup)"

which I took to mean it's OK if Didi is in there but he bats 9th and we can't have another weak bat like that in the lineup. That, I agree with.

One at least is still young and the other also happens to have an obvious replacement waiting in the wings...

That's true, but something must be done. Beltran is turning popups into doubles at least once a game. I'd like to see Slade move into RF when Ellsbury is back, Beltran can be a PH and occasional DH.
or at least platoon Slade and Beltran
Del Shofner : 5/29/2015 3:25 pm : link
in RF.
fair enough, Del
Greg from LI : 5/29/2015 3:27 pm : link
I agree with that, too. I can't imagine Drew has much more time left before they pull the plug. They dropped Roberts around July, right? And he hit more than Drew did.

Stephen Drew as a Yankee, 2014-2015: 90 games, 288 ABs, .156/.226/.292.
