NFT: New York Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning, Game 7, 8:00pm

arcarsenal : 5/29/2015 8:36 am
This is what it's about, boys. Doesn't matter that we trailed this series 1-2 or 2-3. Doesn't matter that we won the last game or scored 7 goals. What matters is winning one hockey game tonight. That's it. Win one game and give ourselves another shot at taking care of what we couldn't last year.

I don't need to pump anyone up for this shit. If you love this team, your heart has been racing since the second you woke up. You know what's at stake, you know how unbelievably huge this game is. You know what's on the line.

If you're looking for a good omen, today's date is May 29th. On May 29th, 2014, the Rangers defeated the Canadiens at MSG to punch their ticket to the SCF. It was exactly a year to the day. Same venue. Let's get the same result.

Let's fucking do this.

score first at home in game 7, I'm no stats-geek, but it's a virtual lock

Caps scored first in Game 7

so the odds are even higher it won't happen again. if I remember my hungover stats class lessons which is not likely

You remember incorrectly because they are independent events.
at since the Caps weren't the home team

Your point is completely irrelevent. Bravo!

Might as well have been, there were tons of Caps fans there.

At least I assume that's what people in McDonagh jerseys were... Certainly can't be Rangers fans.

The Great One..

Quote:
Wayne Gretzky was on The Dan Patrick Show this morning and said that he thinks the Rangers will beat Tampa Bay tonight in Game 7.

He added, “I think the Rangers over the last two years have proven to be one of the most resilient teams in hockey. Every time you think they are down they come storming back. Brian Leetch used to say when we played together that there is nothing better than a Friday night at the Garden. The Garden will be rocking tonight. I anticipate a great game and you play all year to have home ice and because of that I think the Rangers will win in a squeaker.”
kiss of death
pjcas18 : 5/29/2015 2:11 pm : link
has gretzky been right about anything in 25 years?
The Great One indeed....
MetsAreBack : 5/29/2015 2:14 pm : link
the only issue i have with his comments is we've been a better road team than home one for a few years now. Most years with Hank in net actually.

One of those oddities - but 17 goals in Amalie in 3 games, just 4 in 3 games at MSG... i'm not sure that's a fluke. Some teams are just more comfortable on the road - and conversely a young, inexperienced team like Tampa seemed to choke a little in front of their home fans this entire postseason.

It's actually poindexter, not pointdexter.

YW.

I thought Brassard's reasoning for why the Rangers were looser and better on the road at times was a little strange.. he said he thought it stemmed from trying to do too much to excite the crowd at home and basically appease the fans. I mean, I guess I understand it.. but at this level in games like this I don't know how that would even be on anyone's mind much.
I thought the same.
BrettNYG10 : 5/29/2015 2:24 pm : link
It didn't make sense because it didn't look like they had any jump after the first ten minutes in game five.

....and that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game; if we played them ten times, they might win nine. But not this game, not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight we stay with them, and we shut them down because we can. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players - every one of you, and you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Lightning have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it!

I heard Valiquette on the radio yesterday and he said the Lightning might leave Rangers open in certain spots, to try to induce them into taking more of the type of shots that Bishop has literally never missed in this series (80 for 80), i.e., the unobstructed, undeflected shot from the point. Interesting, but I hope we have a constant stream of guys going to the net and it’s not an issue. Can’t have Nash taking those lazy ones from the top of the left circle.
That's a nice idea in theory, much harder in practice.

I'll defer to you guys who actually play hockey on that one

I'll take that shot every time. Keep it hard and low and send people in for rebounds.
.....
BrettNYG10 : 5/29/2015 3:50 pm : link
It's not like the NBA where you can play the zone and impair the ability to penetrate the paint, forcing them to take 3's all game. Especially with a guy like Bishop who gives up fat rebounds. It only takes one guy (Kreider) to obstruct his view and cause issues.

It strikes me as one of those general statements that means nothing (forecheck hard, don't make stupid turnovers, etc.).

Still 3.5 hrs before the puck hits the ice.

Time enough to kill some hookers at least.
no Amirante tonight

But, then, they were 0-2 in games where he sang, so that's probably for the best.
