There are a ton of bars on Carson Street in the South Side. Definitely the best place for a group of guys to go out to.
There are a lot of nice restaraunts and bars downtown on Penn ave right across the river from the stadiums. I'd recommend Sharp Edge if you are looking for a good beer selection (they specialize in strong Belgian Beers) or Sienna Mercato (three story restaraunt where each floor is its own restaraunt - first floor has a sports bar feel to it and specializes in meatballs and the top floor is a rooftop beer garden with a retractable roof that will probably be open at that time.) There are plenty of bars and restaraunts around the stadiums too.
The Strip District is right next to downtown and is bustling on weekend mornings and afternoons with people and street vendors. Fun atmosphere. Lot of food options here during the day. As the poster above said theres a signature pittsburgh breakfast place (never been but apparently its the place to go for big ass breakfasts). I prefer brunch over a tradintional breakfast place and love Kaya's brunch on the strip. Also, last time I checked the casino next to the stadium did all you can eat buffet style brunch that included bottomless champange and other breakfast cocktails for 20 bucks.
Tessaro's in Bloomfield (neighborhood next to the Strip - the little Italy of Pittsburgh) is the best burger in the city
Personally I think Primantis is not very good and highly overrated
for driving Piitsburgh to Philly. Ignore conventional wisdom and skip the cheesesteak. Get a roast pork sandwich from John's on Snyder. If you gotta get a cheesesteak avoid Genos and Pats like the plague. Go to Phillips, it's a 5/10 minute drive from the stadium.
Primanti Brothers for lunch/dinner. Can't beat their stuffed sandwiches.
Both are on the strip and easy enough to get to.
