First we don't know how many times he tried the catch, and second, he isn't sprinting down the field tracking a throw with his eyes while being mugged by an NFL CB.
It is an awesome catch but I don't know if it is more difficult.
even arguable. The guy catches a ball while doing a flip.
yeah, but if this was gymnastics they would find fault in something. I think the weight distribution on the landing was 5 lbs unevenly distributed between legs Have to penalize him for that.

Its absolutely debatable. Again, there are so many more factors that took place in the OBJ catch that make it way more difficult. Least of which, it was in an actual NFL game. Also, like it was said before, who knows how many takes that kid had before making the complete catch. Still impressive, but not better than OBJ's.
As impressive as it is, the fact that he attempted it numerous times and basically choreographed it makes it an apples and oranges comparison.OBJ had to fully extend after jumping, while reaching back for the ball and catching it with (3) fingers after being bumped and jostled by (2) defenders. Forget the fact that he hit the ground on his back and maintained posession.
Standing in place doing a back-flip while catching 2 footballs tends to not happen in real games so it was a great trick catch. Can we leave it under that useless heading and move on without mentioning OBJ's balls out catch?
now try and one hand catch two balls at one time.
then try a backflip.
finally do all that at the same time.
yes - this is a more difficult grab (given the OP's disclaimer)
Again, it was choreographed, he had the balls thrown exactly where he wanted them, in the hands directly in front of him, at basically the same velocity while he left the ground as both balls had made contact with his hands. When he catches 1 or more balls after he has started his backflip, well, then I would consider comparing the 2! Thatis, if he has 2 guys draped all over him when he starts his flip!
Choreographed stuff like this is always fun. But there's no Dunk Contest Dunk that can ever get the same feel of a truly great in-game Dunk. All that choreography is cool and all, but nothing beats a pure in-game play whether it's a dunk or a great catch.
This catch was an awesome exhibition catch. But In-Game vs. Exhibition are two different animals, and In-Game is a better animal lol. Beckham had the most amazing In-Game catch any of us have ever seen from a skill standpoint. That trumps some cute little backflip catch under no pressure in perfect conditions.

want to compare one with bare hands versus one with stickum inspired gloves? I agreed to in-game versus out-of-game/choreographed.
jlukes is on to something.
doing the backflip actually decreases the difficulty
Go watch the Sportscience on Beckham's catch and one of the most difficult aspects of it was maintaining complete possession (even by the NFL's standards) after hitting the ground with all that force. While a backflip is impressive, the controlled landing mitigates this aspect of The Catch.
First off he knows exactly what he was going to do. Beckham had to track. The ball, adjust, contort his body and extend with maybe a full second or so to prepare. The guy is also standing there alone, no gear, no DB draped all over him. Incredible display of athleticism, sure. But more difficult than Beckhams? No way in hell.
This is like the guys on You-tube who do trick basketball shots from ridiculous distances and angles. Of course, they only have to get it right once, out of potentially hundreds of tries. Who gives a rat's ass?

I'd agree, but to put in in the same context of a Professional player being guarded by a Professional player on Prime Time TV in front of a whole country watching in real time is beyond silly, it's downright a stupid thing to write

This guy didnt have to do it with a CB draped all over him and having to stay in bounds for a TD on a bomb thrown from 50 yards away.
then try a backflip.

More impressive is the QB who threw both balls at the same time

I hate stupid shit like this. I'll bet this kid could release a video catching it in his ass too.

I just did it and it was pretty easy. :)
Beckham had one chance, in a game, prime time, getting interfered with, and scores a TD.
How is this even a question?
