Eras aside by the time Eli is done he's going to dwarf every QB record the Giants have ever had. He led two last minute championship winning drives. He is the clutchest playoff QB in NFL history. He is one of the most durable QB's in league history. He carries himself with class and poise on and off the field.
All of those reasons point to why he should be included! So why would you say he is debateable?
Eli plays the most important position in the sport, is the best in the history of the franchise, is a 2x Champion/MVP and holds all the records. 31 game winning drives.
I just can't buy any argument that tells me he isn't one of the 4 most important players in franchise history even if he wasn't technically the best at his position from a pure talent standpoint.

Let Eli try to play QB back when defenses could rough up receivers and QBs weren't a protected class. If Simms had half the receiving talent to throw to that Eli has had, he'd be in Canton.

I wouldn't personally but whoever you think is the best QB in franchise history has to be on the damn thing. It's arguably the most important/difficult positions in all of sports. They individually impact the game more than anyone else on the field.
Totally random but I never even realized how much of a beating Simms took. Guy got sacked close to 500 times in his career. For comparison sake, Eli hasn't even been sacked 300 times and they've played a similar number of games.

He was a tough, tough dude who would always stay in the pocket to make the throw....but he sure paid the price. Those Eagles games from around 1988-92 were always just brutal to watch, seeing Simms having to drag himself up off that horrible Vet turf over and over again.
The Vet was such a fucking shit hole. It was literally a thin green carpet on top of pure concrete. And to make matters worse, they had uneven sections and lips where the patches that covered the bases were.
The '82 high/low job by Klecko and Gastinueau should have ruined him. But he still came back. Then had the freak broken thumb injury in '83 after Bill's admitted biggest fuck up ever naming Scott (Olive Oyl) Brunner to start.
Well, Elis isn't NEAR the best QB of his era...and I LOVE Eli.
But Rosey Brown was the best OL of his era, as were Hein, Tunnell, LT and imo Strahan at their respective positions.
I just can't put him there as yet...and I agree that if Simms played either for Bill Walsh with their offensive talent or in this era with our current WRs his stats would be incredible, at least as good as Eli's.
Rosey Brown is one of the greatest, if not THE GREATEST
Simms was sacked 35 or more times in 10 of 14 seasons, and in the others he didn't play at all ('83), played 4 and 6 games ('91 and '92, respectively)....and 1990, when the OL was great and they didn't throw much anyway.
If any NYG Mt. Rushmore doesn't have Eli Manning on it, it's wrong.
There are more than 4 Giants throughout history who were better at their jobs than Eli Manning is at his.
Not sure if the "Rushmore" enshrinement means they were the best at their jobs - I think (for the Giants, at least) it's the guys who best represented their particular era of NYG football on the field.
This is nostalgic nonsense. Yes I saw them play. Their contributions although admirable had nowhere close to the impact that Strahan & Manning had on the Giants success. Ah the good old days when old men try to recapture glory that really didn't exist except through time
is a much larger sculpture still emerging each year. Crazy Horse on a stallion triumphantly rising out of the ground and extended arm pointing West.
Ian Frazier once wrote that is the only place in America that one can see American Indians smiling.
Lets put Taylor there.
Then the next four on Mt Rushmore.
We deserve the 5 and the smiles.
I visited the Crazy Horse monument back in the early 1970's when Korczak Ziolkowski was still alive and working on it. It was really interesting even then when less was finished. I don't know if I will but one day I would like to visit it again to the progress in person.

Emlen Tunnell dominated for 11 years as a Giant!
The only offensive lineman to ever win the MVP. That just tells you how dominant he was at his position.
Taylor is obvious.
Gifford is probably the best offensive weapon we've ever had, though Tiki is damn close.
Robustelli was the hardest one for me.. Was between him, Brown, Tunnell, and Huff.
But Robustelli was an amazing defensive player during the Giants heydays of the late 50s early 60s and was incredible.

Hard to include an offensive lineman with all these flashy players!

Strahan should be, but so should Carson and Tunnell..
If there's 4, my selections would be:
1-LT
2-Eli
3-Gifford
4-Strahan

Couldn't have said it better.
Why can't both of our QBs be great?

To:
I'm with you on first three. Either Manning or Strahan for 4th. I lean Eli because he won 2 Super Bowls. Plus every Mount Rushmore needs a QB

hope you are well Steve in KY.
Good call... didn't know that was where the expression came from!
This ^^^^^ was my 1st thought before even opening the thread!
Then, whose head are we gonna cut off to add OBJ's magnificent coiff up there?
